Russia invades Ukraine {2022-02-24} (Part 2)

Perhaps they receive a radioactive pellet to the back of the head before being forcibly defenestrated…

Well, there’s the fraction of the air fleet you have to protect because they’re committed to your World War III strategic strike plan. That would be most of the bombers, although up to now some of these appear to have been used to launch long-range conventional cruise missile strikes on Ukraine. But operating safely within the friendly confines of Russian or Belorussian airspace.

And then the rest, you tell yourself you’re holding those as an exploitation reserve when the momentum shifts and the air defense environment isn’t so unpleasant. So, perhaps never realistically.

These days, it seems. But if you go back to 1618, not so much.

Plus, we have no statistics on the number of folks they’ve unsuccessfully tried to push out of a window.

I think that was a reference to the 155th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade. That unit was elite at the beginning of the war, but had had a considerable number of casualties in previous battles, which were replaced by new recruits. So it probably wasn’t really an elite unit anymore.

Both sides declined a confrontation with the other with their main fleets, actually.

The German fleet would only sortie into the North Sea thrice more, with a raid on 19 August, one in October 1916, and another in April 1918. All three were unopposed by capital ships and quickly aborted as neither side was prepared to take the risks of mines and submarines.

Apart from these three abortive operations the High Seas Fleet – unwilling to risk another encounter with the British fleet – confined its activities to the Baltic Sea for the remainder of the war. Jellicoe issued an order prohibiting the Grand Fleet from steaming south of the line of Horns Reef owing to the threat of mines and U-boats.[132] A German naval expert, writing publicly about Jutland in November 1918, commented, “Our Fleet losses were severe. On 1 June 1916, it was clear to every thinking person that this battle must, and would be, the last one”.[133]

There is also significant support for viewing the battle as a German tactical victory, due to the much higher losses sustained by the British.[134] The Germans declared a great victory immediately afterwards, while the British by contrast had only reported short and simple results. In response to public outrage, the First Lord of the Admiralty Arthur Balfour asked Winston Churchill to write a second report that was more positive and detailed.[135]

They’re certainly reducing the number of Russian Nazis rapidly, given the Wagner group losses.

Latest on “Is Putin ill?” watch:

Signaling who is next to be definistrated?

Well, now, don’t jump to conclusions; we have no reports on the number of dents in the walls on either side of the windows.

AFAWCT, there is no jumping involved.

“Intelligent Falling”. According to evangelical scientists as opposed to gravity as the culprit.

Except Putin…well, he is a fascist, not a Nazi, but those are pretty damn close.

Those are… not… happy feet.

P’rhaps he’s got a full bladder?

How the heck do three people survive a 70 foot drop? That’s some shoddy defenestration, almost gives it a bad name.

That’s the correct unit, I hadn’t realized they had already had a lot of previous casualties.

I think that may be one of those irony things I hear about.

Wow, I wonder if he was like that for the whole meeting. I know that some medical problems, like Parkinson’s, are helped by moving your legs around a bit before standing to walk. Holy crap, it’s like he’s a tap dance solo.

Those are just practice runs so they don’t count. Builds up the fear a bit if you fake throwing them thru the window a couple of times.

An article about the efforts to produce enough ammo to keep up with Ukrainian needs:

What Russian reconnaissance doing?

I’m not sure how this Russian AFV came to be driving along parallel to a Ukrainian trench just 20 m away.

I hold to the “pile of shit” theory myself.

Speaking of Putin…

I’m thinking he has the “It’s a Small World After All” as an ear worm.
