If they actually are blowing up bridges, that should be easy to confirm. And if that’s part of a “trap”, then the Russians have just become even more silly. You don’t go blowing up bridges in areas you expect to own in the near future. You blow up bridges you expect the enemy to own in the near future.
Yeah, it seems like the bridges that were blown were ones on the approach to Kherson. Probably seen as something to slow the inevitable advance of Ukraine in the area.
It worked.
I’m sure we’ll discover in short order the many ways Russians have managed to salt the fields. We already know about the rampant looting, but how many booby traps will have to be defused?
Anyone remember the Highway of Death from the Gulf War?
Russia still has a lot of heavy equipment (tanks, IFVs, AFCs, etc) on the wrong side of the Dnipro, and very few crossing points, all of which are in range of HIMARS. In addition to the humiliation of conceding a huge chunk of “Russian” territory, this could yet turn into a complete disaster of a retreat, and another bonanza of Russian Lend-Lease for the Ukrainian army.
“It is very hard for me to say that Kirill Stremousov died today. He died on the territory of the Kherson region, travelling in a car that got into an accident,” [Vladimir] Saldo, his boss, said.
This is why you need to remain calm, and evacuate in an orderly fashion.
Releasing this video looks to me like Defence Minister Shoigu is forcing General Surovikin to take responsibility, in light of all the critiques of Shoigu from the warhawks.
Or Putin is scapegoating Shoigu. Prigozhin will be happy.
hmmm—I wonder why they didn’t announce that he fell out of a window?
While Russian-installed, it seems he criticized the Russian army and its leaders openly, too. Not very bright on his part. With so many other “accidents” happening, who is going believe this was just another? And it may well have been. Shit happens in a war zone.
They didn’t mention the car went out a window.
read on twitter that this type of vehicle carries 750kg of explosives … so that would explain a lot …
Is Russia still in control of the dam?
We really need to come up with a newer term for that, like abandon-donate.
Yes. They’ve already got it rigged with explosives and are using it as a sort of ‘dead man’s switch’ with the tacit understanding that should Ukr. decide to target all their forces as they’re bottled up trying to cross the dam, they’ll blow it in a heartbeat… 50 thousand civilian deaths downstream be damned.
