… and - once again - the Ka-52 prevailed over farm equipment …
US intelligence leaning towards Russia as perpetrator:
History repeats, except this time the Russians are the Nazis:
Hey, those vehicles have been responsible for the loss of enough Russian tanks that they’re totally a legitimate military target!
Dam before and after. A lot missing.
Drone footage of flooding:
Ukrainian officer claims Russian soldiers washed away:
I would not be at all surprised if Russian command either did not give two shits about their own troops, or were so incompetent, they did not think about the consequences of blowing the dam.
Plus the endemic lack of communication and cooperation between different commands.
is there any information on how long the flooding should last? …
I have no feeling for that … couple of days? … couple of weeks? months?
Latest I read was it was supposed to peak Wednesday, remain at high water for a couple days more then start to receded. Water will continue to flow downstream at a lower rate for about a week. Will probably take flooded areas between a week (for higher ground) to even a couple months for low-lying and river-side areas.
Please keep in mind I am not an expert on these things and estimates may be changed/updated with new information.
At this point I kind of wonder if Russia or Ukraine has killed more Russians, in this war.
Were most of these villages already depopulated by the war? How many people will actually be displaced by the flooding?
Ukrainian government statements indicate ~17,000 on the Ukrainian-controlled side and ~25,000 on the Russian-controlled side will need evacuation.
Which would be just the people, not counting all the animals, whether pets or livestock or wildlife. And the ruination, for whatever period of time, of farmland, cities, etc.
Seems that is basically Russias “plan” at this point; just wreck as much as they can.
Russia reminds me of an abusive, jealous boyfriend/husband
- assumes the other party is in love with him
- gets furious when the other party does not reciprocate and/or obey him
- abuses the other party and destroys their possessions to punish the lack of obedience
- adopts a “if I can’t have her no one can” and proceeds to use progressively more lethal force
Much is being made about how blowing the dam is affecting the Dnieper River below the former dam site. I’m curious if the no longer dammed up waters upstream might eventually afford the Ukrainians any opportunity to possibly cross the river at a narrower point, perhaps near the infamous nuclear power plant?
My guess would be not. At a minimum, the river would likely be several hundred meters wide and it would have kilometers of drying river sludge on either side. At the narrowest points, the Kakhovka reservoir was still about 4 km wide.
The primary upstream results will be that irrigation systems that rely on the reservoir will fail.
Red Cross warns Mines are being uprooted in the flood waters. That should make them easier to pickup off the ground. Some will be buried in mud.
I saw yesterday that the UK and US are still investigating the dam attack. No conclusions yet.
