Sad day- irishfella's father has died.

Sorry for your troubles Irishgirl. Such a shock. I hope you and the rest of your family are ok.

The funeral was yesterday.
The church was packed to capacity, with overflow in the Church Hall…irishfella, his mum and his sisters held up amazingly well, and the eulogies from his colleague and the minister were wonderful.

We’re all trying to focus on the positive things from the past, and look towards the future.

He was such a humble man, my memories of him are mostly of him riding his John Deere mower, or chasing his grandchildren, or shouting at the TV during an Ireland rugby game, but hearing from his colleagues I’ve realised that he made such a huge contribution to developmental and peace psychology.

He was the first non American president of the Peace Psychology division of the American Psychological Association, for example.

He had a wicked sense of humour, and loved to poke fun at things he found absurd. This is exemplified by an anecdote of how he conditioned his eldest child to smile every time she saw an orange as a baby- both to make a point about a developmental psychology theory he disagreed with, and also because it made him laugh!

Sorry again for rambling, I do appreciate your comments.

From your description of him, it sounds like we have all suffered a loss, but yours and your husband’s most. You are in my prayers.

Regards,
Shodan

I’m sorry for your loss, Irishgirl. He sounds like he was a wonderful person.

I’m so sorry for you loss. I hope your mother-in-law isn’t reeling too badly from the utter shock.

That’s terrible. Sorry for your loss.

My sympathies. I am so looking forward to self-driving cars which should hopefully prevent all but a very few car accidents in the future.

I now want to condition an infnt to smile at an orange. He was a righteous dude.

My condolences.
