The out-of-country moodge are there to kill Americans, not restore the regime. So they’ll fight on. But they’ll do it without support, and that’s a dead-end road. Resistance will continue, but effectiveness will crater.
This is HUGE, man.
And it occurs to me…so is some guy’s bank account. Remember, we got this from a TIP. $25 million is going into a bank account somewhere.
Money well spent, and fella, whoever you are…treat yourself to a night out.
Nah, he’ll never leave Iraq. The Iraqi Governing Council has the right to try him. However, they’ve outlawed the death penalty, so Saddam’s golden years will be spent in a prison.
Good.
That thought gives me more satisfaction than letting him out of this world in some kind of blaze of glory, or as a martyr for whatever sick bastard actually admires him.
Let him go slowly crazy as he contemplates his fall from the palace to the cell. Ultimate power to asking permission to take a crap. There’s justice for you.
What I want to know is what the Iraqi contingent were shouting at the press conference when they showed Saddam’s picture. They were quite passionate, but I haven’t a clue what they were saying.
Those guys are crazy for shouting and causing a disruption. I can see they are excited but what the hell with distractions. I think they are just excited reporters. Once they saw Saddam’s picture they went wild.
Just a relieved people giving voice to a jubilation as it sinks in that Saddam can’t send the Mukhabbarat around to scoop up them and their families for being seen cooperating with the Coalition. Let 'em holler. I’d do it, too.
Watching the press conference on tv, the footage is pretty amazing. For anybody that can’t watch it right now, they’re showing a clip of Saddam receiving a medical exam (open your mouth, say ‘ahhhh’ type thing) after his capture. Not the most dignified video I’ve ever seen.
When the clip first came on, a couple of the reporters (I assume they were Iraqi, but don’t really know) went nuts yelling in Arabic at the screen with the clip. Dunno what they were saying, but from his tone I’d guess it’s the Arabic version of “F you, you son of a bitch.” Pretty cool.
Oh, and they said they shaved his beard, so I guess it was real after all.
If that’s not Saddam, it’s a damn good impersonator.
Now that he’s been captured and is in US custody, the “rebuilding” of Iraq should move a lot faster. There will be a lot of happy families soon as they’re reunited.
They showed the ‘spider hole’ in the news clip. It was a hole in the ground, maybe 4 feet wide and long enough to lie down in. It had a fan and a vent to provide fresh air, they said it was hidden behind a false wall of sorts.
