Saddam's Love Palace Has Familiar Art

A thread about Saddam’s Love Palace on MPSIMS produced this comment:

Holy crap! This painting’s description sounds EXACTLY like the cover of an SF/Fantasy novel by “Randy” Andy Offut! I can’t remember the title, but I bet someone does. There were descriptions of other pieces of artwork that definitely had an F&SF flavor. I hope we get to see lots of pics.

Sounds like Boris art.

Evil Captor, the novel you’re recalling is King Dragon.

Here’s a link to a story with a photo that shows the painting in the background.

It’s definitely the cover art from the book I mentioned. The painting is by “Rowena,” the famed sf&f cover artist.

Do we get some sort of prize now? I think we should get a prize!

BWA-HA-HA! How weird! Years and years ago, my father had a table at a con right next to Rowena. My mom used to paint fantasy scenes, and wouldn’t you know it, we got stuck with the one table next to the Big Shot Fantasy Artist. Now she shows up in Saddam Hussein’s love shack.

I should have known she was conspiring with evil dictators! :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s a view of the Rowena painting in question. It comes from this page.

“Four out of five evil dictators prefer the art of Rowena for their love nests!”

Man, she’d be so mortified!

She is.

Lets say I’m really drunk, and Saddam Hussein is trying to woo me. Bringing me to a mirrored love shack with gaudy ass dragon painting on the walls is going to dry up my loins in a heartbeat.

That place was a gaudy, porn set nightmare. Interior Designers across the world were heard gasping in horror the minute “Mirrored Walls” was uttered.

Yeah, I’d feel bad if I helped a bastard like that get laid, too…

Well, let’s face it. When you can use pick-up lines like, “Sleep with me or I’ll execute your family,” it really doesn’t matter how you decorate your bedroom.

I may be mistaken, but I could swear that room was designed by Hilde on an episode of Trading Spaces.

if i ever get the chance to go on trading spaces i’ll have a tough time deciding between star trek house or sadam shack for the redo…

unsuspecting designer: what do you see for your friends room?

rocking chair: i think this bedroom need a “rocking iraqi” design.

or i think this kitchen need to move up a few centuries to “boldly go where no produce has gone before.”
