I’m not arguing the suspension considering the other jerky comments, but when I first read sailor’s reply to lieu’s post I took it as playing off the same high school graduation analogy that he/she had used a few posts earlier, not as a personal attack on lieu’s daughter. Anyone else?
In post 26 sailor reacts to the tone of the thread with this statement:
In post 35 bump says:
In post 38, BrainGlutton points out the technological strides China has made in the last half a century:
In post 39, Omar Little wins the thread with a joke about TANG.
In post 40, lieu responds to BrainGlutton’s post to point out that the Chinese have stolen technology.
sailor chimes back in in post 42 with:
To me it seemed that the first part was responding directly to lieu, and the second was an expansion on the earlier high school graduation analogy with the Chinese being the high school fuckups who still managed to graduate/land on the moon. It’s uh, not the best analogy, but unless lieu has posted about a troubled daughter, I’d chalk the fact that lieu has a daughter up to coincidence and not malice. Or maybe sailor is a creep, stalker, jerk? I don’t know:confused:
I think you’re generally right in your analysis. I further think it’s possible (but unlikely) that sailor was using the general ‘you’ and further hadn’t actually looked at lieu’s profile. I feel that’s unlikely enough to not have a problem with the warning.
Perhaps, if that was the case, sailor could have explained that way his meaning. Since he didn’t contradict the interpretation, I have no reason to do so either.
The way the post was written, it looked to me as though the second line was directed to lieu, just as the first was. I have heard nothing from sailor trying to persuade me that that was not so.
Red sky at morning, sailors take warning
Red sky at night, sailors’ delight.
If the sky is red in the morning, it’s going to storm. If it’s red at night, the next day will be calm. Supposedly.
The joke here is that rather than be on the lookout for bad weather, the red sky in the morning means that posters named sailor must accept their mod-given admonitions.
Huh. I would have thought “old fogies” were exactly the type of people who would know about that.
Anyway, I think the OP offers a possible explanation for an otherwise, totally non sequitur post by sailor. Whatever it was, and if it was a reference to his earlier post, it was very sloppy writing, and I don’t blame the mods for cracking down. He should have explained himself.
I can maybe see how sailor was a bit peeved at some of the comments, but he went overboard. I can’t fathom why he couldn’t just keep an even keel about the whole thing. Regardless of his reasons, now he’s being judged by his piers.
