Seriously, does this paper have a history of endorsing Democrats? Are they like the radical crazy leftist paper of Utah? What’s their normal stance on things?

Of the two daily papers, it is definitely the more liberal. They endorsed Obama in 2008.
Historically the “Deseret News” was the more LDS friendly paper but calling the Tribune “liberal” would be a stretch (full disclosure I have not lived in the land of Zion for 18 years).
Despite the state in which it resides, Salt Lake City is pretty liberal. I’m not all that surprised they didn’t endorse Mitt W. Romney.
SLC is better if your are a Gentile however look at the tribunes history on endorsements.

There are only two daily Salt Lake papers: the Deseret Morning News and the Salt Lake Tribune. The Deseret News is wholly owned by the Mormon church and even includes a weekly section that functions as the Church’s official mouthpiece.
The Salt Lake Tribune is the paper for non-Mormons and liberal Mormons (and I believe it started life as an explicity anti-Mormon paper). So this isn’t all that shocking.
Hmm, I did not realize that. Color me very surprised, then, that they didn’t go with Romney.
This could be just what Obama needs to get his vote-share over 30% in Utah!
