Sam Stone believes Trump's tweets

That’s not fair, every time he walked out of his giant weapons stash, he was totally unarmed!

6 months ago today.

@Sam_Stone, what other riots came pre-made with gallows?

Imgur

Somebody forgot to bring the effigy.

They wanted to leave room for the real thing.

Who built the gallows anyway? Certainly they didn’t carry the thing through the streets of DC.

I think the gallows are disgustihg. But I also think gallows in riots and protests are pretty common - particularly on the left.

https://www.thebritishjournal.com/world/report-demonstrators-erect-mock-gallows-in-beirut-as-thousands-join-judgment-day-protests-news-18233-2020/

Here’s a good one: They hung President Bush in effigy, then burned him.

Would you like me to continue? There are hundreds of such photos from different protests.

How many of them involved an angry mob chanting “Hang [Person X]” as they literally searched the building Person X was in for him as the gallows were built outside and as law enforcement officers frantically moved Person X and his family to safety?

In the case of The Capitol, the gallows were empty and the intent to actually hang the target was the goal. The weird part is the intended guest was also a right wing asshole.
By the way…

By the way, you stupid fuck, your first item is protestors standing on blocks of ice in reference to global warming.

Hanging people in effigy is a macabre but traditional form of protest. Building a gallows with the intent to use it and sending a mob into a building to find, capture, and hang actual public officials has nothing to do with protest- it is attempted murder. It isn’t that some can not see the difference, it’s that some will not see the difference.

You’ve descended into Starving Artist territory of partisan nutbaggery. Congratulations. In his defense, he was probably too stupid to see his own idiocy. You have no such excuse.

“Tree hugger”, “woke”, “social justice warrior”. All good things that conservatives think are insults. It does say a lot about their mindset.

I think Sam is quite capable of being that stupid.

She was part of a mob assaulting police and refusing police orders to disperse.

Don’t Republicans normally say that such situations justify lethal force, and any resulting deaths are just an unavoidable shame that’s entirely the fault of the victim failing to follow police commands?

Can’t white put my finger on why this situation is different.

*snicker*

But what about for tour groups?

Or what about staging a military style weapons arsenals and personnel 10 minutes from the protest……just in case.

I know every time I go on a tourist visit to a public building, I stash a couple of soldiers with a dozen or so military grade weapons and a plan in a nearby hotel beforehand, just in case things go south. You gotta be prepared.

ETA: Engaging with Sam is sort of like playing poker with a guy that thinks a pair of twos is a good hand.

Where both of the twos are actually aces with 2 scribbled on them in crayon Sharpie?

A pair of twos can be a perfectly fine hand, depending on the situation. Any time you want to play poker, let me know.

In this case, the pair of twos you have are from a UNO card game. You continue to miss a lot of context on why your gallows examples are not like the one where coup plotters are storming a government office too.

See, this is typical. I was specifically responding to a simple question dircted at me, asking what other riots had gallows. I provided a list of them. That immediately got turned into an attack on me over positions I do not hold. The very title of this thread is a lie. I do not and did not ‘believe Trump’s tweets’. I thought maybe a single one of them *might have truth to it, not because Trump is believable but because the circumstances of that one meant that a lie would be particularly stupid I was wrong, and Trump was that stupid. But that doesn’t make me someone who ‘believes Trump Tweets’.

Every time I post about Trump I go to pains to say that the guy is an ass and a blight on American politics. I hold him responsible for quite a bit of the extreme reaction we got from the left, and for lowering the overall ability of both sides to talk to each other. And yet, for not agreeing with every single part of the left-wing orthodoxy I get painted as a gullible Trump toady. Because associating someone with Trump is a great tool for character assassination.

I didn’t endorse those gallows - I think they are disgusting. And I am perfectly aware that the Jan 6 riot included a small number of people who intended serious harm - just as the ‘mostly peaceful but fiery’ protests over the summer included some instigators who were trying to turn the protests into riots. Looking at the charges that have been leveled, out of the 550 or so people who were there, maybe 25-50 of them were up to a lot more than just venting, They are currently in prison awaiting court dates.
