You certainly can. I was just offering a reason why I didn’t, and speculating on why it might be common knowledge on the left. I have no interest in Nazis unless they are in a Blues Brothers movie.
Since we’ve established just now that it’s possible to know what 88 is code for without being obsessed with Nazis, an alternate explanation for why you didn’t know is that you’re just not as well informed about things in general as you think you are.

Here, in reference of Musk, one has to mention a very recent dog wistle that Elon Musk used when complaining about “woke companies” and “woke” ideologies that he dislikes.
Based on the history of what the black comunity used it for, and how the right wing is using it as a slur now, the clear meaning for many on the right nowads, is as code for telling their undesirable companies and influencers to “Stop being N… minority lovers!”.

What’s annoying is that your knowledge of what’s said in SDMB threads that you yourself post in appears to be lacking. While you smugly pat yourself on the back for your ignorance because you consider it evidence for your anti-Nazi high-mindedness or something.
E.g., you posted in this thread from last August shortly before, as kenobi65 recently pointed out to you in one of the Elon Musk threads, the well-known “88/Hitler” connection was discussed at length.
You also wrote post #43 in this 2010 FQ thread where post #47, for goodness sake, contains a full explanation of the “88/HH” symbolism.
Even way back in 2004, you posted in a GD thread in which a subsequent mod note appeared explaining the “88” thing.
As squeegee mentioned, this phenomenon has been common knowledge on SDMB fora for twenty years or more. When you claim to be completely unaware of it, what you’re revealing is not your admirable refusal to engage with “Nazi fashion”, but rather your old-fart cluelessness and/or forgetfulness about (and/or not bothering to read) what other posters write, even in the very threads where you yourself have been posting.
As always, Sam, what is so irritating about your behavior here is not the simple fact that you’re wrong. All of us are wrong about things from time to time, and we old farts are at increased (and increasing) risk for cluelessness and forgetfulness in general, so that’s totally pardonable.
What’s irritating is that, as usual, you start building a bunch of self-congratulatory fantasy bullshit based on your wrong assumption, and try to spin your ignorance as implying something creditable about your own viewpoint or opinions. You could have just said “Huh, thanks, I see that there are indeed a lot of threads where I previously came across discussions of this ‘88’ symbolism, but somehow it seemed totally unfamiliar to me when it was mentioned in the Musk thread.”
