A few weeks ago Samantha Bee had a short segment where she recommended various charities. Would anyone have the link to this segment, or remember the charities she endorsed? I know one was Planned Parenthood…
My google-fu is weak, and I’d really like to see her suggestions before the end of the year.
I admit I stopped watching after the election because I just couldn’t stand to hear about Trump for a while.
But, as far as I know, she’s put her entire show onher YouTube channel, in individual segments. So have you checked there? I admit I wasn’t able to figure out which segment it was, but, if you saw the show, you might be able to figure it out by process of elimination.
If it’s not there, then I don’t know. Maybe check her website?
Probably because the country decided to elect a reality TV star president; a satirist would seem like Albert Einstein in comparison.
I know John Oliver’s last show of the season listed some groups, including Planned Parenthood, Pro Publica and some others. Maybe you’re mixing up the two shows?
When it comes to making important decisions, I don’t think of comedians at all. I was wondering why anyone would allow a comedian to chose where they should donate their money?
I’m sure those comedians don’t worry an iota about what you think of them. But what’s wrong with a comedian being an advocate? Remember all of the Comic Relief specials for the homeless? That ran from 1986-2010 (although it’s since branched out to a worldwide relief fund). There’s certainly nothing wrong with a comedian having a cause that’s dear to them.
I did stand-up for about 6 years (though I was nowhere near close to successful, but I did earn a living from it). During that time, my mother was diagnosed and successfully treated for breast cancer, and my father (a retired firefighter) died from an unknown heart condition at the age of 50.
I still support breast cancer research, very much support the American Heart Association, and am a big supporter of police/fire/EMS/military folks. Why shouldn’t a comedian advocate for people to donate to causes that are near and dear to them? They’re human, just like everyone else.
Fair enough. I wouldn’t donate to any cause without some research first regardless of who recommended it. I would, though, be open minded to causes mentioned by someone whose values appear to align with mine.
Both of them aren’t just comedians. Oliver does a lot of charity stuff on his show, trying to make the world a better place, and Bee is an activist for the rights of minorities and is just good at spitting bullshit.
It’s not like the OP is getting advice from–I dunno–Jeff Dunham. These people are known for more than comedy.
