San Diegans - come out of the woodwork!

Yep, I think those were both options. I think someone also suggested Hamburger Mary’s. Any and all are good options, so if anyone has a preference, or deeply despises any of those thrown out, speak now…or forever hold your peace!

I’d be up for a little Buca action.

JOhn (Mira Mesa).

Scout, I wish my location were worthy of intrigue! As it is, I’m simply stuck in one of the hotter, more backward levels of hell-- the Imperial Valley. If allowed to attend a get-together I promise not to eat with my feet, shoot anything, or talk about what a lousy husband my cousin has made.

Every time I drive by Dave and Buster’s I wonder about it. Someone told me it’s sort of a Chucky Cheese’s for adults. If true, that could be fun. Or horrible, depending. Any place is good for me, and March 13th is clear as far as I can tell.

So…

Where are you all? And more importantly, you ever wanna get together for a meal, a movie or some other general madness???

 Shout out from North County! I live in Escondido, work in San Marcos, grew up in Poway (mostly).

I’m also in the Mt. A-streets in Clairemont (giving directions is a nightmare: “Mount Alifan to Mount Acadia to Mount Ararat to Mount Aladin with only one [d], but don’t go onto Mount Abernathy or Ackworth…”

Anyway, I’m moving to Point Loma next week. (Any dopers like carrying bookcases?)

Hm. I remember it more like “Balboa to Mt. Bigelow to Mt. Alifan”. (Of course, I left just before I was able to drive; so what do I know?)

Last time I looked, my elementary school was still there. (I lived 1.2 miles from it, unless I cut through the “canyon” – Mt. Brundage Park, as it was officially known.) Homes Elementary School. I went to Hale Jr. High. When I looked several years ago, I saw that it had been turned into a Christian Adult’s Centre. Ironic, when you consider that Hale’s mascot, Haley, was a devil.

Easterner here. I’m going to be in San Diego next month (March 20-25) for a conference, in case your plans work out for that timeframe. I’m going to the Montreal Sugardope the weekend before, so I could conceivably hit east coast and west coast Dopefests on consecutive weekends!

There’s a Dave and Buster’s in Philadelphia that we used to go to occassionally. It’s better than an adult Chucky Cheese and can be fun, but I don’t know how good location it would be for a Dopefest.

¡Hola! from La Mesa.

I vote for a picnic at dog beach in Coronado.

Hey Bracken, what day? I hate moving, so sympathise, and like helping others move. Depending on the bookcases, anyway–they’re not solid oak, ten feet high, and with glass doors are they? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks! No, they’re just ordinary cheap pine or synthetic equivalent. I’m thinking Sun. the 29th, because Leap Day seems auspicious. Helpers would be rewarded with gratitude, pizza, and beer!

Woo hoo! It sounds like we’re getting a little gathering together!

Bracken, I’m sure you’ll think I’m making this up, but I work on Sundays during the middle of the day, and have a get together scheduled in the early evening after that on the 29th. Otherwise, I would have loved to help you carry stuff. (I’m usually only good for pillows, lamps and other assorted “fluff” though. Brawny I am not.)

JeffB, it’s looking like March 13th is working out pretty well for us, so you’ll miss us by just a wee bit! However, if anyone is free during the dates you’re in town, it certainly wouldn’t be unheard of to have a little informal get together then as well! What part of town will you be staying in?

Tortuga, I think a beach party is an excellent idea! Though given today’s weather… I say we keep that in mind for the summertime. Coronado is always my favorite place to go to the beach anyway. What part of it is considered “dog beach”?

So far our list of possible attendees on March 13th at Buca Di Beppo seems to be:

scout1222
jkusters
Esprix
Jeffwc
Ashes, Ashes (you’re allowed…does that mean you’re free that day??)

How 'bout anyone else. Spinsabit, Bracken and Tortuga, would you all be available that day? Like at 6pm maybe?

Hello, Scout - I took a look at the Buca Di Beppo web site, and discovered there they have two locations in San Diego city. One in Mira Mesa, and one downtown. Just wondering which one you’re thinking of us going to. (I’ve never been to either of them, but was aware of the Mira Mesa one due to it being relatively near my work place.)

I have checked with She-Who-Must-Be-Consulted-On-Such-Things (read Astrogirl), and it appears that on the eve in question the television can spare us for a few hours… count us in!

So I heard, although for every drop of rain in San Diego, we get a bucket here.

You’re weird. I like that in a person.

Jeff, (if I may be so informal to drop the “wc”!) I was thinking of the one in Mira Mesa. That way we can pick up any North County folk. Actually it’s really because I know that area better than I do downtown, since I virtually never go down there!

I also forgot to ask if those who want in want to bring anybody else. So if jkusters and Esprix are in, does that mean we’ll see thomasm and Q as well?

:: rubs hands delightedly ::

Thanks. I was wondering if anyone else remembered that song!

I heard from Shayna and Spiny Norman on Sunday. They were saying that it was cold, raining heavily in Redondo Beach. On the other hand, I had been out in ths sun. When they called I was taking a dusk kayak trip with some friends out to Point Whitehorn (about 3 miles from here), and it was quite dark by the time we got back. No rain at all.

[sub]Of course we did get some afternoon sprinkles yesterday. But it’s supposed to rain in northwestern Washington! It’s been unseasonably warm here – I saw 60°F on the thermometer the other day! [/sub]

Yay! I’ll say to include me in-- that saturday remains free as of today.

Unfortunately, I’m leaving on a jet plane on March 13th, but keep me posted on future events. Beach bonfires are good.

The good news is that all of the too-heavy-for-one-person stuff got moved in yesterday. Yey! Only three (light) bookcases and their contents left. We can still have a much-easier-moving-&-pizza party, though, if people are interested.

So it’s Bucca di Beppo then? I was going to vote for Dave & Busters. :frowning:

But yeah, Q and I will be there.

Esprix

Well, as I’ve already been leaving off your “1222”, please feel free to drop my “wc”.

I had been thinking the same thing about the Mira Mesa location, but never hurts to check!

Buca di Beppo is a fantastically fun place. I’d love to show up for a Dopefest there. (Might even bright my mom along, if she’s game.)

But, please, PLEASE, schedule it in late March, otherwise, I’ll never make it, since hell week for my play starts on the 29th, and performances go through the middle of the month.

Please?
