I’m flying out that way either this or next Friday, I have some business in Laguna Beach, and I was figuring “Hey, since I’m going all the way out there, I may as well see some folks, right?!”
I’d be coming in Friday night, and here’s the thing, I haven’t decided on an airport (Orange County, LAX, or SanD) yet, but I’d likely be staying in LB (unless someone has a spare bed available somewhere) and leaving noon-ish on Sunday. I’m literally just popping in to decide whether or not to buy a car, then I’m free to hang out.
If anyone is interested in meeting up (or putting me up- I cook, if that helps.)

I regret I will not available this Friday & Saturday (June 21 & 22) unless you want to go to the International Gourd Festival[sup]TM[/sup] in De Luz, CA. However, the following weekend is free. I live in northern San Diego County. I have a spare bed but as I share the house with my mom I will have to check with her first [sigh]. And yes, I am 45 years old!
Yup. We’ve got to make our own corrosive environment substitutes.
If you’re heading to the Cerritos Auto Square, I live near that area, though I wouldn’t be adverse to heading a little south for a mini-Fest. I’m afraid I couldn’t put you up (no room) though.
I am booked to fly out next Friday, arriving at John Wayne airport around 7 and staying at the Holiday Inn, Laguna Hills (which I really hope is close-ish!)
Odds are I’ll purchase the vehicle almost on the spot (this trip is really and truly a formality) so my day Saturday is going to be pretty free (and Friday night, for that matter.)
I’m not planning on renting a car and I won’t yet have insurance on the new one, so if anyone is feeling particulary mobile, I’m wide open to any and all visitors.
Laguna Beach is an incredibly fun and beautiful place to stay but it’s kind of removed from anywhere else in Orange County. There’s only two roads into it and each takes between 30-60 minutes from the airport (depending on traffic). Still, if you’re not pressed for time, it’s one of the nicest spots on the planet. Check out the outside cafe at Laguna Beach village near the Holiday Inn for good, cheap food with an unbelievable view.
Where’s the car located? Can you give us a hint at what type car it is? We all collectively promise not to buy it out from under you.
Just to clarify, The Holiday Inn that Thinksnow mentioned staying at is in Laguna Hills, not Laguna Beach. Big difference as LH is a bit of a drive to LB.
The nice thing is that the Holiday Inn in Laguna Hills is a pretty good central location. It has very close freeway access, allowing you get where you need to be in minimal time. If you have any favorite cuisines you want recommendations for, or need to know specific locations of services or sites in the area, let me know. I know the area quite well. You can either ask here or e-mail me. Hope you enjoy your trip, the weather is nice right now.
Dagnabbit. I’m working both Friday & Saturday night (and Laguna Hills is a loooong drive from where I’m at). Guess JustPlainBryan and I have to miss out this time.

Well, I’m currently on the east coast, and yesterday bowed out of a dopefest here, although I would love to meet up with some other dopers, from either coast. I was originally suppose to return home Sunday, but the Darlin baby is sick, and went to the doc today, and shouldn’t fly, so we had to lengthen out stay a bit, and won’t be returning home until Thursday. I’ll be getting the older Darlin’s on friday, so I’m pretty well tied up next weekend. Dag Nabbit!
Maybe another time? (For SoCal and Charleston, as I’m sure to be returning here from time to time, as well)
Oh, and Esprix - even though I’ll have all my chillin’s, I may just have to drive on down to the car wash on Saturday. Lord knows my car needs it, and the kids would probably have a blast(it’s so great how simple things are entertaining to younguns). Maybe I’ll see you there. I have seen your picture on here, so if I do make it, and spot you, I’ll give you a shout out!
Hey I don’t have any plans next Friday night and I live like 5 minutes from the Holiday Inn in Laguna Hills. I wouldn’t mind meeting up with you and Mr. and Mrs. Seawitch (and possibly musicguy if we can talk him into it )
Well, I’ve no plans for that weekend. It’s about 45 minutes away for me (more like an hour, I tend to get lost easily) in good traffic - more like 2 hours on a Friday evening. That is, if I’m reading this map right. It’s the HI off of La Paz, yes?
