Would anyone be interested?
I was going to suggest an L.A. Dopefest by public transport. In any case, can we make it somewhere near Union Station? That way anyone near a subway station or Metrolink, and in my case Amtrak doesn’t have to drive. I’d like to try to make it in any case though.
I’m up for it, as long as it isn’t in BFE (since I am, in fact, traveling from BFE).
Date depending, of course, Spiny Norman and I would come. Location’s not an obstacle.
We’d be up for one, especially if the San Gabriel Valley is the location. Pasadena I’ll drive to - Downtown LA I won’t. Because I’ll match BFEs with Queen Bruin any day. 
I’m carless and live in Hollywood. Anything reachable by public transport is good. As far as food, there’s an excellent (and moderately priced) Indian place a few blocks from Sunset and La Brea, but I’m open to ideas.
Edit: if (relative) BFE is the location of choice, I’ll happily put in for gas with anyone kind and not as vehicularly challenged.
It’s not gas so much as the time. I commute 150-200 miles a day (I live next to an onion farm outside of Lancaster and go to UCLA, plus I rideshare with my husband downtown once a week). I didn’t go to the last Dopefest in Costa Mesa simply because I just couldn’t face the drive.
Depending on when it is I am way up for one.
After that anywhere is fine by me.
However until sometime in January, I will match BFEs with anybody (I’ll be in Toronto Canada)
I’d certainly be interested. Since it’s a one-time deal, I don’t really care where. Downtown or San Gabriel Valley is great by me. Pasadena seems like a reasonable choice, but I don’t know where the majority of LA area Dopers are situated.
As far as dates go, the only comment I would make is that we either need to do it soon, or we should consider early 2008. Reason being that we’re rapidly approaching the holiday season where folks may scatter.
I don’t spend much time in Pasadena anymore, but there is a Buca Di Beppo’s in Old Town that would be able to handle whatever size group we coordinate. But I’m open to whatever.
By the way, Darryl (and anyone else commuting in by public transportation), if the 'fest does end up in Pasadena, it’s about a 25-30 minute ride on the Gold Line from Union Station, so please don’t let that keep you from coming if that’s how it goes down.
Sounds like fun. I live fairly close to Long Beach, so that would be OK, also San Gabriel valley or even downtown LA, pretty much anywhere that doesn’t involve taking 3 or more buses (I am carless as well as licenseless). Even Pasadena would be OK, I can take the Gold Line there. I’m open to pretty much any weekend Dopefest as long as it’s not on the weekend before Thanksgiving, since I will be throwing the Princess’ birthday party that weekend.
How about a small dopefest next Friday night, with something bigger next year?
I think this would be doable for me. This thread seems awfully quiet, though.
I haven’t been very active lately (grants season) but I think I could make it-esp. Pasadena.
I wouldn’t be able to make next Friday (wedding anniversary). I can always make the next one.
I work in Pasadena, so a friday evening is good for me. The next couple fridays could be problematic though with our moving. (painting and such to do before we actually start moving furniture)
I’m 50 miles beyond BFE then…not looking too good here for me.
I can do Friday night, especially if it’s in Pasadena – the bus ride there is more convenient from my workplace. I just need to talk my mom into taking the Princess for the evening and I’m all set.
Just to clarify, for those people who are saying “next Friday night,” are we discussing November 2nd?
I dunno - personally, this Friday night (11/2) is more convenient than the following 2 Fridays, due to child care availability. If it’s not this week, I may not be able to make it. In that case, have fun and I’ll see you all at the next Dopefest.
