Sandwiches nobody eats anymore

My thought, too. The first thing I ate in New Orleans when I went there for Mardi Gras in the 80s was an oyster po’ boy. It was awesome. The locals I was with expected me to be an effete Californian who’d turn my nose up at it. But they were pleasantly surprised. It made a good start for my week there.

I’ve always wanted to go to Australia and have the locals try to prank me with a Vegemite sandwich. If you look at this image, I do Number 5. I would certainly eat Number 6.

It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a good soft shell crab sandwich. I really miss those.

Same here. Being diabetic, I now use agave syrup instead of honey when I feel like such a sandwich. Good, but possibly messy, on crackers as well.

Man, that looks pretty great. A local place here used to do soft shell crab banh mi sandwiches. I loved them, and dearly miss them.

I like liverwurst sandwiches with Miracle Whip! It’s nice with a glass of chocolate milk!

As with SPAM®, the sweetness of the MW helps to balance the fattiness and saltiness of the sausage.

I got addicted to soft shell crabs back when I lived in Baltimore from '75 to '83. I loved the variety of sandwiches too, with the crab shoved between a couple of big crackers, or on a burger bun, or in a hoagie roll. Sadly I’ve rarely been back to B’more when they were in season.

A little late to the sloppy joe discussion, but when I was a kid in San Diego in the '90s, there was a BBQ restaurant near the beach (uncreatively called “The BBQ House”) that sold burnt ends sloppy joes for about $1.50. One of those and a hot dog made for a pretty filling lunch. That’s the only place I’ve ever seen that had a sloppy joe on the menu.

They’re still there but that same sandwich now costs around $10.

Mmmmm, gotta get me one of those deviled nut sandwiches!

De gustibus non est disputandum and all that but I threw up in my mouth a little. That combo is safe from me.

Right there with you on that! Blech!

Gotta agree here. I hate liver, and MW is a vile affront to food. Either starring ingredient in that would guarantee I’d have to be literally starving to even touch it.

OP posted this recipe, someone said it resembles Chex Mix. I like the ingredients separately, this sounds interesting but there are other sandwiches I’d try first. Maybe a bite of someone else’s?

Glad to read they’re using Lea & Perrins worchestershire sauce!

Not Worshyoursister sauce?

That one grates on me, too much of a southernism. I glory in pronouncing worchestershire as ‘woostershr’.

Yeah, me too. I only heard of that brand a week or so ago in a FB reel. I thought it was funny.

But I only buy Lee & Perrin’s.

I can believe that. Leave out the relish and it bears a resemblance to a snack mix recipe from the Washington Post some 35 years ago.

AFAIK, I no longer have that recipe; probably lost it in a move.
