Sanity for the Unemployed

I got up to late to attempt getting to San Francisco. Oh well, tell us how it goes everyone.

Psy came after all, Rasa and Oldie were late (baking brownies?) and Alcatraz tickets were sold out.

We went on some ship where ToddlerNym had a complete and utter meltdown, embarassing me to no end. I ran over multiple feet with the stroller and ToddlerNym spilled cranberry juice all over Kyla.

We saw the sea lions, had pizza and beer, then I had to take my kid home for a nap. Hope they’re still ahving fun up there!

Demo will post a picture later!

Aw, ToddlerNym was cute (and smart - she knew her alphabet [even lower-case letters] at two!). Nothing to be embarrassed about. I had a great time. We’ll just have to plan ahead a little more for Alcatraz.

Wow. You guys are quick. I took the trolley home, stopped off at SafeWay for some dog food, and now that I’m home this is the first chance I’ve had to get to the thread.

Yes. A good time was had by all despite the fact that the boat to Alcatraz was completely sold-out. Sold out?? In January?? On a Wednesday?!?!? Ah well, the liberty ship we toured was relatively okie-dokie. The Chicago style pizza was good, and the beer was mighty tasty. Alas, my buzz has all but worn off now.

If my job search completely bottoms out, maybe we’ll do something about getting Alcatraz tickets ahead of time.

BTW. Woodstockbirdybird is the man. I said it before and I’ll say it again. In fact I just did. You did me right today. And I wasn’t even trying to mooch. Remember, send my your work and we’ll hash something out.

Sigh, I guess I have to get serious tomorrow and actually try to get something accomplished. Unless everybody’s up for another impromptu DopeFest. Any takers?

Got a few pics that Sue took and sent me here.

Again it was a great time. Because of Jack’s misfortune, we were able have a little get together. It was great seeing Demo Again, and Woodstockbirdybird is a great guy too (didn’t talk much, but i expect that for first times :)). Oh and toddler nym was quite cute. She knows all her letters of the Alphabet too. The meltdown was actually pretty funny. Ahh, kids.

Anyway, it looks like I may leave the world of unemployment. I got an email saying they wanted to interview me for a student assisting job, so any last minute get togethers I may not be able to attend due to um…work.

AAARRGGHHH!

I didn’t have time to check new threads yesterday. I can’t believe I missed this. I would have gladly ditched work to hang out. Oh well, I guess I’ll see you all at the superbowl party.

Yep, I showed after all. I sat at work for one hour and had nothing to do, so I decided to play hookie after all. Demo was waiting with the truck running when I got home, so I showed up in my work clothes, a pain in the ass skirt and high heel boots, but I had a fantastic time. Sure beat work!
ToddlerNym was adorable, and smart, and was not that bad at all. The battleship wsa fun, the food was good, the beer was yummy and the conversation was stimulating. I had a nice little buzz going by 3 PM, the sign of a very good day.
I had already met everyone excpet Rasa and woodstockbirdybird, who were, as dopers always are, way cool. I am looking forward to hanging out with everyone again at the Superbowl Party.
Good luck on the job hunt Jack!

Hah, i was wondering how you managed with all that :). Were the boots uncomfortable for all the walking we did? But, you looked nice.

Reading this thread makes me feel like being unemployed is such fun! I might join you – my editor is starting to make this job look pretty unenjoyable with new stuff he wants to add to the section.

Does he want an all Kiddie Soccer section Snooooop?

Hey, Snooooop, tell you what. I’ll take your editing position, and you can play The Sims all day. Deal?

That’s probably not too far off.

The big thing that he’s pressing me about is getting standings of high school basketball in the paper. We’ve got around 10 high schools in our coverage area distributed among several leagues – and most of those schools have boys’ AND girls’ teams – which means that I would have to convince a few dozen coaches to be completely consistent about turning in their teams’ records on a regular basis. Some of these coaches don’t even know their own team’s record unless they consult their statkeeper.

He’s also getting on me about adding more features and player profiles. I can’t even get to all of the games that are played with my small band of part-time writers.

I added a few more pics. Same link as before. I haven’t resized them yet (maybe this weekend), so be careful if you’re not on cable or DSL.

how bout enlisting the help of some of the school paper folks? I’m sure a few of those kids would love to have a commercial paper for their portfolio. hey you might get some good photos out of the deal as well.

Good to see y’all had a good time.

Aaawww what a little sweetheart little Sammy looks. Sooo cute

Yay! My first Dopefest as a true BAD!

Of course, oldscratch and I were late. No brownie excuse this time, we just got up late and stuff. So we wandered around and eventually ran into the assembled Dopers. I’m glad we did–I was dying to meet Doob and psy and Demo and Sue, and I got to! They rock. And on second meeting, so do Jack Batty, woodstockbirdybirdybirdybirdybird and Kyla! I think I disappointed them with my normal hair color.

I have to agree with the consensus that Sue’s daughter is adorable and smart as hell. Just don’t look at her until she’s “used” to you! Heehee. When we drove Doob back to Sue’s to get his car she invited us in for a drink (um, SUE did, not her 2 yr old daughter!) and I got to play catch with her. Then we had fun with the alphabet. She got bored with me after about H, and seemed to like Doob and scratchie better, but I’d have to agree with her taste, they’re both cuter than me. And, I believe she missed Kyla by a hair with her cranberry juice, Sue!

Heehee, psycat, I didn’t know you had just come from work; I was impressed that you dressed up for little old us! Thanks for shattering my worldview. But I gotta say you looked kickass. You and Demo are too frikin cute together!

Looking forward to the Super Bowl party where I can meet even more cool BAD’s, and hang out with the others I now know a bit better.

Eep! See what happens when you spend 4 days in the car together? You start posting as each other! That above post was from me.

We are not cuter than you baby.

Demo: I look pretty damn cute in that top most pic :). Good job on the pic page!

And it was way cool meeting Rasa finally. She’s just as cool in person as on the board. And she and oldie are so cute as a couple, he he. Also, those who saw Rasa’s car at Fisherman’s Wharf, you should see it now. It’s black! Like the dirt and bird shit are all washed away. It was also nice driving back to Sue’s with rasa and oldie so I could get my car. Why if I hadnt driven back with them, ToddlerNym wouldnt have warmed up to Rasa! See, I knew that asking ToddlerNym to play with Rasa was a good idea :).

Anyway, we should actually plan an Alcatraz trip so we don’t get shafted by all the tourists who seem to think they should visit SF in January on a week day.
