Santo Rugger (RIP Santo Rugger)

Agreed! I know so little about brain injury and it’s a terrifying thing to hear of someone we know going through it. Thank you for taking time out of your days to update us Dopers, and know that as always, we are all pulling and praying for Santo.

Not at all TMI – thanks very much for taking the time to give us all such a detailed status report.

I’m keeping Pat in my prayers – and you as well.

Thanks very much for sharing the extra level of details – it’s definitely appreciated.

For anyone curious, here’s further info about the Rancho Los Amigos Scale.

Yes, thank you. I may have mentioned upthread somewhere that my dad suffered a traumatic brain injury, so I’ve been following developments here.

I did some reading up on DAI and he really beat some major odds. :)

Hang in there, all of you.

Far from being TMI, we can only thank you for sharing his progress with us, SRM. I see why he grew up to be such a great guy.

Just let me echo everyone’s: thanks so much for the detailed update! We’re all pulling for him and keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.

I’m about as unemotional a guy as can probably be imagined, but for some reason I’m tearing up reading this latest update. Thanks for the information, we’re all pulling for your son. He seems to be progressing as well as could possibly be imagined.

GO SANTO RUGGER!!

Don’t worry about TMI with this crowd. We want to know how he’s doing–and there are a lot that are reading this thread that haven’t posted to it. At the moment, it has 328 posts, but it’s been viewed 18,867 times! That should show we’re all hungry for updates.

As a fellow Rugby player

superannuated and horribly unfit now, and even when I was at my best, pre-accident Santo could have pwned my sorry butt any time he liked from what I’ve seen of him in posts and pictures, but that’s not important; there’s a brotherhood in the game that transcends mere ability and physique,

let me just say again: Hang in there, big guy. It’s getting better every day.

Thanks for the update, I was just wondering about him the other day as we’re setting our schedule and his team came up. Don’t worry about the TMI its great to hear how the rehab is going.

Thanks so much for the updates. We don’t mind the…um…detail of the details.

Your family remains in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult, stressful and exhausting time.

Truly. It’s just a matter of time before someone wonders aloud about 1) has his hospital bed resulted in any ingrown hairs? 2) have any developed into cysts? 3) any video footage of lancing & evacuating said cysts?

Oh, stop giving people, ideas, Inigo

Or 4) can we help with said lancing and evacuating? Yeah, we’s a weird crowd.

SRMom, I join the chorus of thanks for the updates. And you’re obviously otherwise busy, but when you’ve got some time, sit down and read a few of our other threads - you’ll quickly learn that nothings TMI around here. Seriously - it’s almost like Internet Rule #34 - if you can think it up, odds are we’ve already discussed it in a thread.

Really glad to hear of Santo’s continued improvement. My thoughts are with him.

I’d like to add my voice to the chorus as well.

Santo was teaching me rugby online (on the Domebo Boards) and we played a couple of Mafia games together as well. I’m waiting for him. (please let him know)

Hugs to you (Santo Mom) and your family! Thanks for keeping us updated!

It’s good to hear of Santo’s progress. Thanks for letting us know the details of what he’s up against. As a fellow rider, I think of him every time I hop on the back and am eagerly waiting for him to post (and even better, post about a rugby game or his new motorcycle!).

First of all, I love reading all the posts. I’m sure Santo is feeling the good vibes by now. Secondly, because I’ve been in my own brain fog - here’s a slight correction.
Santo is a 3 - 5 on the RLA scale. Meaning he fluctuates between a level 3 and a level 5. He’s apparently skipped stage 4 which is the agitated crankiness. (All this time I thought he was a 3 1/2). Duh!

Now for the GOOD news. His doctor told me today that he is being reevaluated by Craig Rehab hospital in Denver. He has been rejected by them before because he wasn’t functioning at a level where he could withstand rehab for three hours a day. The fact that they are looking at his case this week is a huge improvement! And it’s probably the best news we’ve had in three months.

I’ll keep you posted.

Hot damn! That is good news!

He’s a big guy–he’ll kick arse sooner than you think.

Tripler
We’re pullin’ for him!

Most excellent news indeed!

Thank you so much for the information and continued love to Pat and your whole family.
