Keep up the good work Santo
He’s improved so much since the last time I posted to this thread! Awesome!
Keep up the good work, Santo!
As a fellow (former) “rugger” myself I am obliged to point out…THERE ARE NO PADS IN RUGBY!
A few guys - very few - wore scrum helmets when I played, made out of a thin padding, but even that was rare. Pads are for the football pussies!
Thanks for pointing that out!
This video always reminds me of Santo.
Santo dressed as a pirate for Halloween and one first place! He won a candy prize and I’m assuming my husband was happy to eat that for him!!
Looks like it will be a little longer before he gets pureed foods, but he’s still working toward that!
Great Vid, SRMom!
Congratulations, Santo! Arrrrrr, matey!
Great video! I was hoping for a little more metaly metal for the second part, but I knew what it was going to be.
Is Santo still going home tomorrow? Great to hear all of his progress, and I hope being in a familiar environment will speed up his recovery.
Everyone wears shin pads, and most players wear cups. I’d call that padding.
Sorry, I got my cables crossed between Real Football With A Melon-Shaped Ball and That Thing Americans Do…

Santo’s a tough person from a tough sport – he’ll do better in recovery than most anyone else could. Seen it a few times myself and I know this with all my heart.
Back when the US Eagles were starting I was watching a match between France and the Welsh national teams. One of the French players had his eye gouged and it was basically hanging there – it took the rest of his team several minutes to talk him into leaving the field. Next year he was back and trying to get his position back. Meanwhile, I have seen American-style NFL players have their careers ended by sore toes and whine about it for the next 20 years. I won’t be real surprised if Santo doesn’t just recover but finds an Old Boys network to play around with. That’s just how ruggers are.
Prayers and best wishes, as always
Is he there yet? Is he there yet? Is he there yet? How much longer?

Santo developed a slight infection and we are now scheduled to leave 11/17. The weather here is Denver is cold and snowy. Hope it’s all gone by the time we set out for New Mexico.
He’s doing well and I know he will just do so much better at home!
Back to the pads and such for rugby - the only protection I’ve ever seen Santo wear is a mouth guard - no shin guards or cup! I’ve seen several kids with broken jaws and noses tape them up and get right back out there. As a parent, it’s difficult to watch. Luckily during rugby he only blew out his ACL and pulled his hamstring.
All that said, I agree that his toughness will serve him well in his recovery!!!
Very best wishes from England.
Whew, I hope that pesky snow is gone for when you leave. It will be fabulous getting him home. Good luck on the trip, hope everything goes well Mom.
I did not wear either when I played. High school rugby, 2 seasons, 2001 and 2002. The gear was tight white shorts, jerseys, high socks, cleats and a mouthguard. No cups, no pads.
“Pads? What are you, on your period?”
Girls like the tight shorts.
SRM - I’m glad to hear he’s progressing. I’m sure being at home will help a lot, although it sound like the facility he’s been in has done wonders.
StG
And some guys are even tougher (see the fourth paragraph).
Wow…that takes balls.
 I’m a woman but gah, that sounds like it might hurt a little.
