Hi everyone! Just an update to say that Pat is progressing well.
He continues using his thumb to push keys on a small musical keyboard (I have video of this saved as a Quicktime file and would like to share it, but don’t know how) and is working with a buzzer to communicate “yes” and “no”. He is also in his standing frame three days a week for up to 50 minutes at 90 degrees, with no blood pressure or heart rate issues.
Today we went to a rugby match and Pat got to see some of his former teammates. It is really heartwarming to be in the midst of such a great group of guys and gals that love him so much. It’s a long day for him, but I know he really enjoyed it.
Still a long road ahead, but we are very pleased with the progress he is making.
I’m sure I speak for many Dopers when I say that I’d be happy to help you with sharing the video, SantoRuggersMom. Would you be willing for it to be uploaded to youtube?
The video can be posted on youtube but not made public. Then the only way people can see it is if they already know the web address, which you could link here (which will make the video semi-public in that anyone that sees it on the SDMB could click the link).
There’s no way to password it that I know of on youtube, tho.
Having said that, let me also offer Santo a big “grats!” and a “way to go!” to you, too.
Pat continues to progress in baby steps. He has more movement on his right side and we are still working on ways for him to communicate more clearly. He’s getting very adept at using his buzzer for yes/no and to count. Sometimes his thumb gets tired and it takes awhile for him to lift it again. But we continue to work hard and fight every day. The battle is exhaustive for all of us but we know the end result is well worth it. Pat really loves the frozen strawberry lemonade. His swallowing has improved so much. I’m guessing that his taste buds are intact by the way he is enjoying suckers and the lemonade. At approximately 220 pounds, he just 30 pounds shy of his weight before the injury. Meaning he’s quite chunky and outgrowing his clothes.
