Whoa! Shit, I didn’t see this before. I haven’t interacted with the guy much, but he seems to be a Bueller (as in Ferris, in other words: “He’s a righteous dude!”)
Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Any updates?
From his Facebook page, last night a friend wrote, “I swear you looked at me today! Your left eye was really open today, and when I got close to you and spoke to you, your eye turned toward me. Geez, I hope this means you are getting closer to coming back to us.”

I’m touched by the sentiments of this group!
First you should know that he looks as handsome as ever. Of course I’m his Mom, but I’m not kidding. The laceration on his nose has healed nicely. In fact, the nurse thought he received it playing rugby… Both forearms have compound fractures and his femur is broken. These have all been repaired with pins and plates; not an easy feat for the medical staff. Because of his size, dense bones, and awesome muscles, it takes several of them to hold his bones in place in the OR. He does have a brain injury and is not completely awake yet.
We have noticed much improvement in the past 2.5 weeks. Today he is opening his left eye, working hard to open the right and having purposeful movement. The doctor said today that he feels Santo is starting to pull out of it. He is breathing on his own.
We feel very blessed to call this young man our son; there is no one like him. Thank you all for your positive thoughts and prayers. He has a long way to go, but if new connections can be made in one’s brain, he can do it. He’s a fiercely determine individual and definitely a fighter. Not to mention tougher than heck!
He will likely move to a different facility on Friday.
Cards may be sent to Garcia, POB 3274, Milan, NM 87021. I’m saving them all for him to read when he wakes up.
As soon as he is able, we will get him his laptop so he can post away.
Awesome.
Thank you so much for dropping in, SantoRuggersMom.
Thank you very much for the update. Here’s hoping for some more good news soon.
Thanks for giving us an update, SantoRuggersMom. Earlier someone mentioned a fund set up at Wells Fargo, but when I called them they said they had to have the money taken into a banking center. The address that you provided, is that one that we can use to send something for the fund? If not, I totally understand.
Thanks everyone. I’m not sure how the Wells Fargo donations work. When I figure it out, I can post the info. Feel free to use the post office box. Our family is uplifted by the support of Santo’s friends.
Thanks SantoMom!!!
I can’t get the donation-thing to work (not in the US) but I’ll figure something out. The news are great and I can’t wait for him to return to this (and other boards).
Holy cow. I totally missed this thread before. My best wishes for a quick recovery.
Excellent news!

Glad to hear he’s doing better!
The updates are very much appreciated, SantoRuggersMom – thanks for letting us know. Glad to hear Pat is starting to respond! Man, I can’t want to read that first returning post from him…
Thanks for coming by to deliver the excellent news, SantoRuggersMom – the prayers and good vibes of the SDMB are a mighty force indeed. More headed his way – and yours. Hang in there – you must be going through some serious hell yourself.
This is great news!
C’mon Santo, wakey, wakey.
Good news!
And thank you so much for letting us know!
Thank you for the update, SantosMom ! Please let us know if there is anything else we can send after he wakes up. He’s not going to like having to stay in that bed, I betcha!
I’m with pat -
wakey wakey wakey wakey!
Boy, am I glad to hear this update! Keep updating us, OK? (When you have time, of course! I realize you’re overwhelmed right now).
Oh, and SantoRuggerMom, would you maybe consider opening a PayPal account? It doesn’t cost anything to open one, and would allow those who wish to easily contribute a little something.
Yay, sounds like good news to me!
Thank you for the update. Sounds like Santo is getting better hopefully he’ll be ready by this time next year to play a little rugby.
