Sarah blames Track's PTSD on Obama

Yeah, that’s clearly what she intended. I don’t know what her strong point is, but it’s not subtlety.

Yeah, I know, that’s the point I was… eh, fuck it.

“When my own son is going through what he goes through coming back, I can certainly relate to the families who…feel these ramifications of PTSD,” she told the rowdy crowd of around 8,000 people. “And it makes me realize more than ever it is now or never for the sake of America’s finest that we have a commander-in-chief who will respect them.”

Sure.

A more defensible position is that she was claiming that Obama’s lack of respect for veterans made her realize anew how awful a president he is, because anyone suffering from PTSD after serving deserves respect, which Obama isn’t manifesting.

Why isn’t that “what she meant?”

And once again, I am defending a brain addled idiot from the accusations of a brain addled idiot.

Screw it. You can’t make me waste time typing in defense of Palin. I quit. Say any damn thing you please, fiction or not. It’s not like anything stops you anyway.

I think you’re wrong on this – it seems rather clear to me that Palin was partially blaming the suffering of her son on the President.

No big deal, though. Reasonable people really can see things differently some times. It’s possible that I’m biased by my dislike of Sarah Palin, and it’s also possible that you’re biased by your assumption that liberal Dopers are usually wrong about politics.

nm

Palin isn’t just stupid. She is far more dangerous. She is every much a terrorist as someone in ISIS or Taliban, as far as I’m concerned.

To expand on that a little, it’s not necessary to be in combat to have PTSD. Both my grandfathers had what would probably be considered PTSD and both had non-combat roles on a hospital ship.

So you’re saying that justified wars never cause PTSD? Could you explain the mechanism for how that works?

That’s nonsense. The VA has never been adequately funded. Putting off paying the piper is not a partisan issue.

Of course Track Palin has PTSD. His mom is Sarah Palin. Isn’t that enough evidence right there? I have PTSD just from watching her on TV.

That would be a fair rebuttal if the two possible levels of funding were “adequate” and “not enough.” But funding is a continuum.

Even if she is not blaming Obama for Track’s PTSD (and she clearly is), this line is probably the most offensive thing she has ever said, and that’s a huge list.

Her son is arrested and reportedly held a rifle while threatening suicide. As a mother, her reaction is to try and deflect blame from herself and score cheap political points. All she had to say was, “please give us privacy during this difficult time.”

The woman is a monster.

Liberal hypocrisy. No question about it.

Agreed. The man was a thug before he went into the service, and remains a thug upon his return, enhanced by his alcohol abuse. Pretty much every person who joins the military comes back changed, hopefully for the better. I can give the guy props for joining in a time of war; that said, he spent one tour in Iraq, this after basic training, military training, Stryker training, and a ramp-up period of at least two months in Kuwait before ever seeing Iraq. I have no idea how long his tour was, but it couldn’t have been much over eight or nine months before his discharge in 2010, and it was spent mostly on a military compound, with brief forays in an armored vehicle, “providing security for the top brass in the brigade”, as several articles of the time mentioned. He wasn’t a ground-pounder and wasn’t wounded. That doesn’t mean it didn’t affect him, of course.

For his mother to use him for political reasons sits poorly with most veteran’s groups and with this veteran, as well.

And like the concerned mother she is, when her son is in serious need of psychiatric attention she’s on the very next plane to endorse Trump in Iowa.

As one does when a family member is in need.

Depends - why did you decide not to get married?

It is now. Palin made it so.

Because that’s not even close to what she said. That’s desperate spin and politicially biased crap. Just like her actual statement.
