I wouldn’t be so sure. You’re vastly underestimating the strength of the republican base and their ability to organize. This country elected GWB twice. Sarah with the right running mate COULD win. Seriously.
The demographics of the country are rapidly shifting. If the 2000 election were rerun today, GWB would lose decisively. It doesn’t matter how aggressively the Republicans mobilize their base, they don’t have the votes to win without pulling heavily from the center. And if they run a polarizing figure like Palin, they’ll never get enough votes from the center.
The only way the rightwing radicals will learn that America doesn’t agree with them is to lose repeatedly and HARD. The special election in NY-23 should have given them a clue that they’re leading their party off a cliff, but only a few more sensible conservatives seem to have gotten the message. I’m guessing it will take electoral bloodbaths in 2012 AND 2016 before moderate conservatives are able to start winning the center again.
She lost interest in being governor during the campaign. All of the adoring crowds showed her there was money to be made. When she returned to Alaska with a newfound arrogance and lack of interest, she tried to jam the legislature with bullshit nominations, which were rightly rejected by the bipartisan committee.
She never lost her support base in Alaska, but she DID lose her support in government with her actions: letting her husband review personnel files, interfering where she shouldn’t, making hairbrained nominations. It was a body of work that started long before the VP announcement and taken in total was alarming to people who suddenly realized that she was completely unequipped to run a state. Basically, the legislature usurped her power to prevent further damage.
The people she brought back with her were the same people she left with, Megan Stapleton chief among them. As her attack-dog-in-chief, Stapleton discovered that she wielded immense power by writing words for Palin to speak, and she is still doing so on Facebook and Twitter, and anywhere else that you see written items attributed to Palin, who is pretty much incapable of putting together a complete paragraph (witness her resignation speech).
When it comes to the reason for her resignation, there is no guessing to be done. She was presented with an advance check for $1.25 million just prior to her announcement. Anyone who thinks she resigned because of some altruistic motive is completely deluded.
I prefer the SheilaEan style of thought, actually. All those drums really drive your point home.
A.P. reports that she is being coached by Dallas based group, Liberty Legal ,which is financed by anti-feminist Kelley Shackelford ,who is close with Pat Dobson. She is entering big time . She has ambition which far over reaches her abilities. The powers of conservatism will not allow their only possible candidate to do much more damage. I do not believe her Wasilla friends are in charge any more.
I really hope that no one reminds Palin of that Belgian candidate who offered oral sex in exchange for votes. While Palin doesn’t appeal to me in the least, I know there are lots of folks who think she is hot and sexy. She just might garner a lot of votes if she actually made good on the promise. Of course, I doubt she could shut up long enough so maybe not.
Palin’s never going to run again. It’s so much more profitable to fleece people like Clothahump by keeping the dream alive while laughing behind your hand. I wonder how ol’ humpy is going to react when 2012 rolls around and Palin is still just doing book deals and speaking tours.
Thank Microsoft for SpellCheck.
I think that Tina Fey makes a hotter Palin than Palin does.
Did I ever say I wanted to vote for her? I just love the way she has the libs frothing at the mouth.
Please tell me that Kelley Shackelford is married to a guy named Rusty. That would just make my day.
One of the preachy talk radio shows I was listening to on Saturday thinks Sarah is going for a radio/TV show a la Glenn Beck or Rush. I’m sure she has offers already. She would be gold mine.
Okay, exactly how is she scary? Because she has a set of values and tries to live by them? Because she’s open and outspoken? What exactly is it about Palin that terrifies libs so much? I’ve got an opinion as to what it is, but I’d like to hear it laid out in black and white.
WHOOSH!
Not that the bar is set very high with the poster quoted, of course.
Interesting. Well, whoever has their hand up her ass has their work cut out for them.
You just gave the teabagger Republican contingent here heart palpitations…
You can’t give blow jobs with your mouth shut.
It was a pretty close call.
It’s her love of freedom.
Yes, I’m scared by her good and true values. I’m terrified that she is so open and outspoken, and speaks her thought so well. My God, her very goodness and smartness is scary!
Whatever you do, please do not continue to promote her as the face of conservatism! I’m scared!
eta: Yes, and her love of freedom too! Freedom is scary!
Liberals are scared of Palin for the same reasons that Br’er Rabbit was scared of the briar patch.
