He who?
Gently down the stream…
Ya know, the rap was a real missed opportunity. It would have been funnier if Tina Fey did the rap as Palin, and then the real Palin came out at the end or something. The way they did it, Palin just came off as lame, just sitting there looking salty. She really had an opportunity to be funny and cool and she blew it. Ah well.
She had zero time to rehearse, having only showed up on the set today. Not much else they could do with her except use her as a prop. She delivered her lines well, but any scripted comedy that relied on timing would be right out.
Why are you talking about the McCain campaign?
I have seen the panicky lady before, I think it was last season maybe? So I’d reckon she’s not quite a regular but something pretty close to that, but this was the 2nd sketch i’ve seen that character used in.
Do you mean Wiig as the ooooh myyyy goooood woman? We laughed hard at that.
Lorne was funny, the way he delivered the “How many times have I hosted?” “175!”
Amy Poehler SO rocked in the I’m No Angel take off commercial. God she is so good, jsut the way she moved and flrted. And of course, shes leaving the show.
Had Palin done that rap herself, I may have given her my vote out of sheer awesomeness.
The intro sketch was meh, but that was great.
I, of course, thought Sarah was awesome, and I have new respect for Alec Baldwin. Btw, that WAS actually Todd dancing in backup during the rap, wasn’t it?
All you Dems- if it was your folk, you’d think it was comedy genius.
Word.
:d :d :d
Okay, then…BWWAHAHAHA!
Farkin’ hamsters!
I **am **a Democrat and I agree with the above message
Not really, like others have said she was basically a prop. She didn’t have to say much or worry about comedy timing. Had she actually done the rap, that would have been interesting.
The only time I saw a Democrat on SNL that I thought did something that was comedy gold was when Gore did that bit from an alternate time line where he had won the election in 2000.
A news report said that Palin was supposed to do the rap herself, but refused because it was too coarse.
Kristen Wiig needs to be shot. At least with tranquilizer darts. Her characters are
disasters.
Just looked her up. She’s from Rochester! No wonder she isn’t funny. (Those eight-month winters do a job on one’s brain.) And she’s only 5’5". She seems much taller.
I haven’t watched SNL for a few years – do they always end Weekend Update with “goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow,” or was that a nostalgic nod?
This is late in the thread so my apologies…
Me, the naive little foreigner that I am, I actually thought it WAS Palin at the press conference until near the end (of the youtube video I watched it on) where the real Palin came on.
In my defence my sound card was playing up… If it had not been, I would have detected the mock voice… honestly, no honestly.
Wahlberg, mad at Samberg.
It’s OK, really.
I can’t believe that at this point, having watched it live, I’m admitting I’m more confused than ever as to which one was which
No, it wasn’t. I believe it was Jason Sudeikis.
She didn’t do anything or really say anything. How is that comedy genius? The rap was hilarious, but she had almost nothing to do with it. To show my bipartisan sense of humor, Rudy Giuliani in drag, THAT was comedy genius.
I haven’t been a regular SNL watcher during any of the time Wiig has been on the show- I’ve never seen a full episode since she’s been a cast member, and I’ve really only seen 3 or 4 partial episodes.
Of the little I’ve seen, I’ve never seen a sketch that really featured her at all.
I’m disappointed to hear a report that she isn’t funny, and am wondering if other Dopers agree. The reason that I know her name, despite not really watching SNL since she’s been in the cast, is that I think she made just about the only FUNNY contribution to the movie Knocked Up.
She had a very small role in that movie, and the humor she was responsible for was very understated and subtle- and in fact needed to be very understated and subtle- and she hit it out of the park. She gave a stand-out performance in an otherwise lackluster film.
I had never heard of her before. When she first appeared on screen I didn’t recognize her from anything. But she had me laughing my ass off. When her character appeared again, I made a point to get the character’s name so I could find out the actress in the credits- then immediately declare myself a fan. She wasn’t just brilliantly funny, the impressive thing is that she was brilliantly funny in a role that very few performers would have had any idea what to do with! A lot of actors wouldn’t have even realized from the printed page that the character could be funny.
One might credit the director for such a performance, but in this case I think the rest of the movie serves as a counter-example of the director’s keenness of wit. All credit goes to Wiig.
I thought Palin did as well as any other political cameo they’ve had on. She had more (and funnier) lines than Obama did on his appearance. But when a political guest comes on SNL during an election year, they pretty much are stuck with playing the straight man (or woman).
Has there ever been more special guests on an episode of SNL? Palin, Baldwin, Fey, Wahlberg, and Stone.
Adele was one of the best musical guests they have had in a while.
Someone up-thread asked is she was the most polarizing figure to ever appear on SNL - I guess it depends on your political persuasion.
SNL seems to be putting really lame stuff before the update these days - McGruber and Wiig’s overexcited woman should have been cut at dress or buried at the end of the show.
It seemed Brolin didn’t really do that much. A couple of scetches is all, and his opening was weak.
