True, but this wasn’t an out-of-the-blue kind of cameo; this was going into a sketch comedy show that has already pretty much admitted to being enemy territory. SNL already had a stated position on (and caricature of) Palin, and given how little rehearsal time her schedule allowed there was never a chance that they were going to use her for anything but the default. She would have been better off staying away and hammering on the “liberal media” and their gross characterizations some more, as opposed to cuddling up to them in a way that couldn’t possibly yield much positive gain and could only dull the edge of her claims that the media isn’t worth her time because of its biases.
Edited to add: This also wasn’t making fun of a particular character trait of Palin’s (besides, I guess, the accent); this was an outright attack and dismissal of every talking point and position she’s stated since her appearance on the national stage. And she walked right into it.
Poehler’s rap seriously had me in stiches. In fact, I’ve probably watched the clip online 10 times since Saturday and every single time, I erupt in giggles. The way they had “Tod” dance when he came out-- I died. “Mother humpin’ moose” had me dying. Just the fact that Amy Poehler is HUGELY pregnant and trying to be gangsta-- dead with laughter.
I do think Palin came across as a bit. . . awkward. Like, sure, her raising the roof was funny, but. . . I don’t know. All I know is, now this is all I will ever see when I think of her. (It doesn’t help that she’s pursing her lips exactly like this guy I hate always does- irrational hatred FTW!*)
*Don’t get me wrong: there’s lots of rational reasons to hate Palin. I’m just sayin’, this particular reason isn’t exactly very legit.
I have watched the rap about 5 times since Saturday–I also cannot get enough (and I hate rap music!). There is something about how Amy does it, and the beat AND the lyrics that make it all gel into perfection.
A little off topic but I absolutely loved the musical guest and went looking for some more info on her. Here’s a video of her song Chasing Pavements. Kind of an odd video but I love the song, waited the hour it takes for anything on youtube to play for me and have listened to it over and over. I think I will either buy a couple of her songs off itunes or buy the whole album. Anyone familiar with her, are her other songs good, too? I’d try to watch some others on youtube but it just takes too long.
