Saturday Night Live Season 46 Discussion

Beck Bennett should sing “To Sir, With Love” as Putin.

Absent a meteor hitting some location at which all the Trumps are congregated, they will continue to be in the news for months to come (if not years).

I can’t see SNL declaring a moratorium on Trump-related jokes any time soon.

Last night’s episode was the sixth live show in a row, hosted (as was the first show after the 2016 election) by Dave Chapelle.

I thought it was probably the strongest episode of the season so far.

Chapelle’s monologue was long, but worth it.

I didn’t like it. Chapelle’s tone was weird, things should’ve been more celebratory, it was more of a downer, more… random and not very insightful. I like edgy humor and he made me laugh a few times but it felt very tone-deaf for the moment. I wanted to have fun and celebrate and have a festive atmosphere and his dialogue was kind of a weird downer.

Saying Trump would go down to a homeless shelter with a bunch of burgers he ate himself in front of them and then saying “don’t let hunger rule your life!” was probably the best bit. Carey doing his “looohooo-ser” bit is kind of funny knowing that Trump will see it.

The rest of it, meh.

They did ok for this season. I give them some leeway for having to make last minute changes due to some news earlier in the day.

Still can’t stand Carrey as Biden, this was the time a decent Biden impersonation was needed.

The Bri’ish tend hide their T after a bit of unpleasantness that went down in Boston a while back.

And I’m glad I’m not the only one to get a Fire Marshall Bill vibe from Carrey.

I think Chappelle was only in two skits and the monologue. The monologue was hit or miss. It was about 16 minutes long, and it would have been better as a tight 8 minute set. The ‘guest stars’ in the opening sketch are bleeding into the show, and with an expanded cast/featured players, that’s a bit much.

I’m REALLY hoping Jim Carey finds some other work by the time SNL comes back from whatever hiatus they are going to (next week is a rerun). He’s just a piss-poor Biden. He can’t do any humor that isn’t manic.

One of the iconic post-election sketches from 2016 was Chappelle & Chris Rock as the only ppl who thought Trump might win. I feel like they should have come up with something to bookend that, but maybe winning just isn’t as funny.

I’m a pretty decent fan of Foo’s, but both songs performances kinda sucked. Well, maybe not sucked, but Dave certainly could have done better. Somewhat disappointed. I always skip the music, and was looking forward to an act I could actually enjoy.

It would be nice to bring Ferrell and Hammond in to do a skit acknowledging the passings of Sean Connery and Alex Trebek.
