Huh, I can’t believe this thread isn’t already floating around here somewhere, unless it’s in the Pit due to Lebron James’ acting ability.
So far, the Digital Short is the best bit, but who sung with Andy?? I know the voice, is it the guy from Savage Garden?
OK, this Lyle Kane on BET thing’s funny as well. Gotta give Will his props.
That was Adam Levine from Maroon 5 singing.
So far, next week looks a lot better than this week.
OK, Lebron James got better in his physical comedy, especially as a Solid Gold Dancer. I’m not much of a Kanye West fan, so I’m meh about the music tonight.
Good Update. Love Fred’s Ahmadenijad.
Not too bad! Not uniformly good, but a lot of it was funny. It appears that Kanye may actually have a sense of humor!
I did enjoy the skit where Kanye mocked his ridiculous megalomaniacal behavior of late…busting up that county fair and stealing the blue ribbon from the little girl. Other than that and the digital short, thought the rest was just blase.
I just checked out the digital short on YouTube.
I gotta say that was hilarious. That was some good stuff!
It always seems that Samberg and crew have a stereotypical style they are going after, but I"m not really sure what this one is. Any ideas of a song that would be similar?
Jake Gyllenhall was funny in his super short cameo. I also liked the
“You can be the jews and I’m your Jim Caviezel”
Samberg was pitch perfect again, although it was difficult to hear all the lyrics as SNL has the laughter in the mix too.
That is true.
However, his last song was one of the worst pieces of crap I have ever heard on broadcast television. It sounded like somebody with Attention Deficit Disorder and a 3rd grade education screaming into a microphone.
I am amazed that there are people who find that entertaining on any level.
That digital short was the highlight of the show.
I liked seeing the AG Duo again.
I laughed out loud at his dressing room rant about “why can’t a *strong * black man be the host?” after learning Lebron was hosting. And Jason Sudeikis taunting Lebron with ‘Bron-Bron’ still makes Tripler giggle.
I have to raise my overall impression of this show, I guess it just had a slow start.
I concur about Kanye’s music, used to be better, now notsomuch.
Actually, it was “give a short black man a chance,” riffing on both his outburst at the VMAs and the famous picture of him facing off with Fiddy standing on his tiptoes. Made me LOL.
What was that sign both Lebron James and Kanye West made with their hands at the end of the show? It was made with both hands and formed a deltoid, or kite, shape. Mrs Flex said she thought it meant “vagina”, but I don’t understand the significance.
Was it the Rockafella diamond? I think it has something to do with that rapper guy Jay Z.
I really enjoyed last season and like the current cast. Why do they bring on sports celebrities who can’t act? Are they running out of professional entertainers who are willing to do the show? I only liked the segments of this show that didn’t involve the guest host.
Because Athletes have a much broader range of appeal than the Hollywood bimbo of the week. They bring in an audience that typically wouldn’t tune in on a Saturday night and it creates discussion in circles and on sports programs that essentially amounts to free advertising. Roping in LeBron for the season premiere is logical as it lets them present the new season’s cast and direction to as many non-die hard fans as possible. Its all about growing the audience.
Athletes are ok, as long as they can act, or have good personalities, like Peyton Manning. Lebron James was a mess, the whole show as a mess, except for the digital short and Fred Armisen’s Iran president impression. Four months off, and this is the best they can come up with? Sheesh.
Kanye completely forgot the words to his own song and pretty poorly tried to cover it.
And the hand signal thing is the Roca-Fella diamond, which is a thing that all of the members of that record company (owned by Damon Dash and headed by Jay Z) do.
The I Ran So Far Away skit is probably the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I love it.
To quote David Spade re the Iran short:
I liked it better the first time…when it was called “Dick in a Box”…
Actaully I ran… was better, though.
Anybody have luck finding the lyrics for the short?
Didn’t see this one, but judging by past seasons, SNL is never at its best in the season premiere, for some reason.
