Jack the Ripper comes to mind.
Yes, she was scheduled to host NBC’s coverage in Italy but cancelled those plans when this happened.
This just in on CNN news: The sheriff (?) has announced they have DNA evidence other than Nancy Guthrie’s but don’t know whose it is:
• DNA being tested: Investigators found DNA at Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona property that doesn’t belong to her or those close to her, officials said. It’s being tested, along with several gloves found as far as 10 miles away from the residence.
I suspect the authorities have sent the data out to have investigative DNA conducted for possible leads:
Investigative Genetic Genealogy
(IGG), or forensic genetic genealogy, combines DNA analysis with traditional genealogical research to identify suspects, unknown victims, or John/Jane Does.
I am not @Dinsdale.
But I interpret “Yeah. I just really wondered about it starting w/ the Menedezes” as meaning “My (Dinsdale’s) interest in the phenomenon of public fascination w some crimes started with the Menendez case. That’s the case when I first noticed many people did that and I then began to wonder about how many people do that and why they do that.”
IMO he was not suggesting that humanity’s morbid curiosity about crimes in the news began with Menendez. His did; not humanity’s.
Not one crumb of information about the purpose of this operation. Not even the house that was raided by SWAT is known.
It could be related to the messages being sent to tv stations and TMZ. SWAT seems like overkill for a alleged scammer sending messages.
Or possibly a tip where Nancy might be held? I think, SWAT makes more sense for a potential recovery operation.
Tucson, Local tv channel 4

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - A law enforcement presence remained in a Catalina Foothills neighborhood after 1:15 a.m. Saturday, following a SWAT operation that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirms is
Residents of North Camino De Michael that News 4 Tucson spoke with Friday were shocked with Friday’s road closure and heavy law enforcement presence.
“Mindblowing, I like cannot believe it,” one woman who lives on Camino De Michael told News 4 Tucson. “We’re trying to figure out what house it could possibly be at. I mean we walk these streets all the time, pretty familiar with the homes.”
I wonder, does all this reporting about exactly what police are doing undermine their ability to find the guy? Like if the perp knows they’re closing in, he might try to move locations or something. I understand the public pressure on this case, but at what point can the investigators say, “none of your business”?
I’m pretty sure a lot of information is being kept internal to the investigation.
Even a gossip rag like TMZ is tight-lipped about the notes they received.
That’s how it should be. Keeping the investigation protected is crucial.
The cops aren’t even acknowledging the SWAT team raid. That’s pretty hard for the locals not to notice in a neighborhood .
I won’t comment further.
Every time I think of this case, I think of the movie 12 Monkeys (stay with me)
In the movie, Bruce Willis is a time traveler from the future. There’s wall-to-wall reporting of an abducted kid, but he knows the kid was just hiding the whole time, because this story actually happened when he was a kid, so he already knows the ending.
People in the future know the ending of this case, even if it’s as macabre as “her remains have been discovered in the desert”. Obviously there is urgency for those involved, but for the rest of us its just a matter of when we get the answers.
Maybe this thread will be bumped years from now with a definitive update. If so…I see you Thread Bumper. I see you.
(What’s that? Zombies eat brains? Yeah, I already know that, too)
Wow nice pre-dated snark game you got going.
Good for you.
In about 3 years when it’s bumped I’ll laugh real hard and tip my hat to your brilliant forward thinking.
Like if the perp knows they’re closing in, he might try to move locations or something.
But if you have the budget to maintain multiple hideouts and getaway methods, you probably don’t need to hold someone hostage for bitcoin.
I am reminded of that cop in Southern California (Christopher Dorner) who went rogue. Every cop in the state was looking for him. He had insider knowledge of how they would search and he eluded them for a while but quantity has a quality all its own and they eventually caught up to him. There is no way that this guy is better at committing kidnappings than the police are at investigating them.
Having said that, the linked Wiki article does mention that at a certain point the police asked the press to stop tweeting because of risks to officer safety.
I heard a group of talking melons on TV talking about what was being shown and whether the perps could glean info.
No conclusive decision on their part.
My belief is if it was really an important clue we won’t know about it for a long time, not by watching a news report in real time.
I suspect the camera placed on her eave and was only removed later by police might’ve been some one intending to watch the proceedings at their leisure, in the lair. Still, I feel like it’s generous to think this criminal isn’t anything but dumb.
These are my personal opinions.
Savannah Guthries’ mom Nancy was killed during a botched robbery the first night.
The blood dropplets were from moving the body.
There never was, and is not now, a real kidnapping. The ransom demands are probably not even from the perpetrators of the original crime.
Nancy is long dead. Did not have her medications, no voice contact with her family or any other indication that she is still alive and being held against her will.
The ransom demands are probably not even from the perpetrators of the original crime.
I thought that the ransom note mentioned things about the abduction that weren’t generally known, like what she was wearing and some things about inside the house that made the authorities think it was from whoever did it. It could still be a botched burglary. The person may have improvised the ransom idea after the fact.

Then why did they take the body if they weren’t going to ransom her?
The body removal doesn’t seem like a thing you could do on the fly. After committing b&e and robbing the joint.
No mention of missing jewels or expensive art.
I think they said that early on.
I’m bothered Nancy’s medicine wasn’t brought with her. There is evidence of preparation and planning that went into this crime.
Typically most people have their medication in one or two place. Most of mine are on the inside wall corner of the kitchen counter. I have one PRN med on the bedside table for taking at night.
It’s easy to drop them into a bag and leave.
It’s easy to drop them into a bag and leave.
I’m not sure that theory holds in a kidnapping – particularly one where there’s a blood trail involved.
In case it wasn’t specifically mentioned earlier, a coding to a New Yorker reporter at the scene, the reason for the tent was:
Investigators erected a tent around Guthrie’s front door to create a blackout environment that may have allowed them to see how certain materials compared to what showed up in the video

Nobody ever suspects the pharmacist!
