Say good things about Dopers

Three people who I have been loving lately and who haven’t been mentioned yet in this thread: AuntiePam, commasense, and 5-4-Fighting, for sharing my obsession with The Wire and for providing so much insight into the show and fun trivia. I also think they are smart, cool, and I like reading their stuff in general.

As Bilbo said, “I don’t know half as many of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve”. (Now for some puzzled looks while everyone tries to work out if this is a compliment.)

I really don’t know any of you at all. But so far, I like this place and I’m really glad that the guy who volunteered to be waterboarded did so, since it was his waterboarding thread someone elsewhere linked to and here I am.

I like the lack of netspeak, I like the rigorous attention to cites, I like the erudite tone, I like the wit, I like the barbs and I like the Pit and I like the warmhuggystuff I see here and there.

I’m remembered!

Elendil’s Heir, if I were up on charges, I’d definitely want you for my judge. You seem exceptionally fair. (I hope I’m remembering correctly. You ARE a judge, aren’t you?)

Guys, I appreciate it and all, and I know Ginger does too, but what do you expect? What we do is simply called “being good people”. How could we do any differently? The real heroes are you and DWC who happily run into fires on behalf of people you’ve never even met. Any small hospitality we have provided pales before the service that y’all provide without even thinking about it. Thank you both.

Oh, and jayjay, I’m not leaving you out. You and SVF are primo guests, hell, I want to make up occasions so y’all will come and brighten OUR lives. After Dope-The-Halls, Jimmy was asking about the two of you for days (which is quite a timespan for a 3 year old), you guys made his month.

Aw shucks, weren’t nuthin ::blushes::

Tell you what, email me with your mailing address (again) and I’ll bring more joy to your good lady

Wow. Cool thread. Thanks to Dopers who have mentioned me - feelin’ the lurve!

There are so many cool musicians and music lovers that make it fun to hang out here - not only are there interesting music discussions, but the diversions into other topics from there (or from other topics into music stuff) is fascinating to me. Crotalus (special, extra Cool Points for taking the time to come see my band when he was in my neck of the woods - first IRL Doper meeting for me!), Sleestak, An Arky, Small Clanger, Musicat, pulykamell, DfrntBreign, What Exit?, Southern Yankee and so many others.

I also really appreciate the cool-headed folks who keep discussions focused, fact-based and fun - **Qadgop, LHoD ** (Daniel - as he signs all of his posts), **QED ** - and too many others to remember.

And no thanks to **lieu **whatsoever - you’ve ruined my keyboard too many times to mention.

I would love to have a cigarette (I don’t smoke) and a drink with **lobstermobster ** at the Rite Spot at 17th and Folsom (is it still there?).

As an aside - I swear, whenever I ask my friends if any of them ever post to message boards, they all say no - I don’t get it; I love taking a mental break during my incredibly busy workday and geek out on interesting topics with interesting people…

Let’s see: **Wordman ** because he and I are Bibliophiles, and have an intense love for First’s and collecting.
**Qadgop ** - because he’s an honest down to earth guy and we are both friends of Bill W. And simply because I respect what he has to say. And he is a studier of everything Tolkien…
**Olivesmarch ** - she is the most inquisitive, thoughtful, true to her own heart person I virtually know. And above all she reminds me of someone I care deeply for…My wife. She and my wife are a over 10 years apart, but are very much the same. Brutally honest about feelings, loves being in love, smartly idealistic.
WhatExit? - shares my love of nature and middle earth, and is an all around nice guy.
**Liberal ** - This will sound odd but I had a professor many moons ago that sounds very much like Lib, he was even a ranked Chess Player…Perhaps their twins.
**Shayna ** - Go Obama!!! I love your enthusiasm!
**Bucareana ** (sp?) - her love of nature, she seems to meld right into the natural world around her. And she fosters her own personal environmental ethic. Very nice indeed! Oh and she likes to stack rocks near streams
**WhyNot ** - Reminds me of a cousin I have who is a stay-at-home mom with twins…no holes barred on the issues and carrys herself nicely in the world. Good head on her shoulders!
Norinew - Passion for getting through difficult life situations. Inspirational.
**Czarcasm ** - Keeps us in check and I like that. Sort of a bellwhether for the boards. I like that too.
**Lieu ** - I’ve always liked Lieu, he and I seem to share similar world views and have a similar ethic, he always posts the neatest things.
**Q.E.D ** - Very smart about things I know very little about…electric things!
**Zoe ** - reminds me of another person I care about very much…she and my mother have a lot in common. She holds me to task about certain things and I respect that.
**Kalhoun ** - Oh Kalhoun! Where do I begin?? She and I have had some fun exchanges and I really respect the spitfire, shooting from the hip she lays out on the boards.
Cal Meacham - We are both New Englanders and I like the fact that he and I share similar views on a diverse array of subjects. Oh and I like his book a lot!
Reality Chuck - Very knowledgeable about all things in the publishing world and will be someone I look up when I finally take the grand old step to finally publish the novel sitting gathering dust in my hard drive.
John Mace - being the fairest guy I know, and a good all around poster - level headed.
There are many more, I will try and get to some more if I get a chance today!

As of this morning, the U.S. History trivia thread is up to 24 pages and has been running just over three months. Very glad to have you aboard!

And thank you, Siam Sam. I’m a muni court magistrate, actually.

Vinyl Turnip, Nurse Carmen, Happy Scrappy Hero Pup, chowder, lobstermobster and Cervaise are usually good for a laugh. What started as distaste for RedFury has transformed into pure adoration and whenever I read his posts I do it in the voice of Ramone from Whit Stillman’s Barcelona. Contrapuntal, Campion and DianaG always get my read.

I miss roger thornhill, owlstretchingtime and Tentacle Monster.

Let me throw in a couple more:

Monty and Clothahump, though they have next to nothing in common with each other AFAICT, both constantly remind me that there are people in the world who are perfectly reasonable and intelligent, yet who come to completely different conclusions than I do about politics, spirituality and life. That knowledge alone is worth my $14.95 a year.

Rico was one of the first and only Dopers to reach out to me offline with much-needed empathy and advice, having been in similar situations to the one I was experiencing.

lobstermobster draws some hilarious shit with MSPaint.

What Vison said. I’ve not been on this board as long as many of you although I don’t think I really qualify as a newb anymore. Also living on a different continent to the vast majority of you it’s not likely I’m ever going to meet many of you in the flesh either. :frowning:

Reading this thread it strikes me how many connections have been made here and generally what a high standard this place holds. Unfortunately I still struggle to retain much information about who posters are and consequently have much of an opinion about them, so can’t really list people that I have particular affection for. But I certainly recognise all the names here and concur with many of the sentiments.

However a special mention must be made of my fave doper name - Unauthorised Cinnamon. Don’t ask me why, it just sticks with me as being particularly cool.

Well thanks! I’m glad you had a good time and I really enjoyed meeting all of you as well. Can’t wait to get together some more.

I thank each & every Doper that has put up with me.

I remember long ago (but in this galaxy) I was having an exchange with a fairly new poster, Tuckerfan, and I was being kinda harsh because he was being kinda whiny, and I was impressed with his response - he owned up to being whiny, and he stopped doing it. That is a good man and a worthwhile contributor. One of these days I’m going to lure him up to the frozen north to start earning a living that is worthy of him.

And of course all the Calgary Dopers are stand-up people.

Everyone in the mafia family who I’ve played a game with is greater than great, this includes, but is not limited to: Hockey Monkey, zuma, Zeriel, MadTheSwine, storyteller, NAF, Kat, Hawkeyeop, CatInASuit, sachertorte, Santos Rugger, FlyingCowofDoom, Blaster Master, Queuing, Kyrie, HazelNutCoffee, Freudian Slit, Fretful Porpentine, Pasta, amrussell, DiggitCamera, fluiddruid, Drain Bead, Tirial, Hal Briston, Roosh (whom most of you won’t know), Diomedes, Cometothedarksidewehavecookies, Dotchan, atarus, USCDiver, Mtgman, JSexton, Pleonast, PanamaJack, cowgirl (heyhey), Autolycus, AuntBeast, ArizonaTeach, dnooman, nesta, Lemur866, Lightnin, percypercy, Malacandra, CaerieD, Gadarene, KatiRoo, GreedySmurf, Millit the Frail, SnakesCatLady, Nava, ClockworkJackal, Captain Carrot, ShadowFacts, Rysto, One and Only Wanderers, brewha, ScubaBen, and Omi No Kami. They are seriously all great people and really kind and fun to get along with. I can’t say enough about them. Even those who I’ve not played games with like Featherlou and most from the first game seem like they’d be fun to play with and get to know.

Others would include (for various reasons, and I hope they know why): twickster, What Exit? ZipperJJ, Sternvogel, ShibbOleth, The Sonoaran Lizard King, JohnnyLA, CK Dexter Haven, Coldfire, lel, GIGObuster, Cisco, jsgoddess, everyone who has ever participated in a Party game or the Family Feud that I hosted, everyone who keeps me on their livejournal friends list even though I never update (imthjackass, Snoooopy, just to name a few), and everyone who has friended me on Goodreads.

Still others would include (again, for various reasons, however they may not know why): Bricker, Priceguy, Miller, CarnalK, bbs2k, zut, AmazonFloozyGoddess, Waverly, Happy Lendervedder , EddyTeddyFreddy, Mr Bus Guy, Zoe, Sarahfeena, DrDeth, RealityChuck, Cervaise, Quartz, Phase42, Jennshark, Left Hand of Dorkness and Little Nemo.

Well, I don’t, but thanks anyway.

I think it’s because he looks more handsome when he stands next to us.

CherryBomb - for indulging my love of peanut butter cups. And of course, the rest of you for putting up with/ignoring/laughing at me.

You’ve clearly never seen my picture. Excuse me for an hour while I go stare into the mirror.

Dangermom and Dangerosa are the other parts of the Mothering Triumvirate (along with WhyNot, of course). I always look to see what they have to say, because it’s always worth reading – thoughtful, and very smart.

I didn’t think I was going to enjoy Nzinga, Seated, based on your opening shots here, but I’ve developed a lot of respect for you.

In the art threads, I love seeing Miller, DianeG and capybara jump in. Capybara has forgotten more art history than I’ll ever know, and Miller and DianeG are wicked funny.

Campion is my favorite lawyer - I’d like my daughter to know you, see a concise, brilliant woman in action.

I like DerTrihs, I really do - I just find myself wishing you’d discover a 3-legged yellow puppy on your way to work sometime. Adopt it, bring it home, soak up its wiggling and puppy smell. You’re right about a lot of things, but you could use some wet lickies from a 3-legged floppy-eared puppy.

Boy, I also like Kalhoun and Rilchiam, and I can’t remember exactly why - just always good, smart, interesting things to say.

Johanna and mswas were absolutely great in this one religion thread - although mswas, you really bummed me out when you admitted posting while stoned. I was so disappointed.

olivesmarch4th, hugs to you, hon. You’re on a great journey.

JohnT and Dinsdale are two of my favorite fathers.

Hmmm, I know there are a bunch more. As Ahnold says, I’ll be back…
