Say good things about Dopers

Thanks to everybody who gave their support and good wishes during my long thread about my brothers’ illness. If I’d just made a few more posts, I could have published the thread instead of spending all this time writing a book. :stuck_out_tongue:

Eve, for her class and style. Come on back when you can, Eve - just on a selfish level, I can’t pretend this is the Algonquin Round Table without you here, and I’ve always enjoyed your post and your views. I’ve been particularly missing her since the last time I saw a show at BAM: they reviewed her newest book in the program.

Sampiro is a hilarious storyteller. The tale of the flat tire (or the “Couldn’t cut it with a hacksaw chronicles”) really could have gotten me into trouble at work. Miller is also a fine wit.

I feel a little selfish praising Diogenes the Cynic because a lot of his views are very close to mine, but Dio, even when I think you need to chill out in a heated debate, you’re almost always very well-informed and fun to read. I liked your House script, too.

I was never a regular Molly Ivins reader, but I’m glad we have elucidator.

I can’t really add much to what people are saying about John Mace, but I’ve always enjoyed his fair-mindedness and insight.

What Exit?, you’re a very fine sports fan and - although this seems inadequate - a really decent guy whose posts I always enjoy. There are tons of great baseball fans here; RickJay particularly comes to mind.

Eyebrows 0f Doom merits a mention for being a friend of mine since high school. Yo!

twickster is one of my truest friends on this board and has great taste in music.

I disagree with Bricker and Liberal less than I used to, as time goes on, and I enjoy their perspectives and the time they’ve obviously put into their views.

Siam Sam, I am a happier person for knowing that there is such a thing as elephant polo. Recently I’ve started working on a mystery story set at the King’s tournament.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say I have always liked David Simmons.

WordMan, to a duffer like me, is just shockingly knowledgeable about guitars.

I’m also a fan of Kalhoun, Anaamika and Indygrrl, among many others.

I’m really pleased to have made friends in Asimovian and Queen Bruin and enjoyed meeting all the L.A. Dopers.

I also follow Dinsdale’s posts because of all the weird connections (same law school, same employers) and hope he gets to ride the crip gravy train for as long as possible.

I laughed like a lunatic at my description! WhyNot, I have always thoroughly enjoyed your posts, here. They’ve made me think, and made me say, “Hey! Me, too!”
I am flattered, as well, to be included in the company you gave me! Delightful, indeed!

For the last time, that’s not your "mirror,’ and if I catch you looking in my goddamn window again I’m calling the cops!

Hey! It’s not all that flat. He just has a funny haircut.

I was just thinking about you and your brother the other day and wondering how you were (both) doing.

That sounds great! Alas! It’s looking like I cannot make this year’s tournament. :frowning:

I would just like to say how much I appreciate most everyone here, but especially those with whom I’ve exchanged emails and PMs, giving and getting support as I find my legs here – you know who you are. You guys have shown me perspectives I hadn’t considered, given answers I was too embarassed to ask publically and, just as importantly, heard what I’ve had to say back.

Keep being you and I read you long time.

I’ve hesitated getting really in-depth in this thread for fear of offending people that will inevitably be left out. I’ve been a part of this community since it was on AOL and it’s impossible to remember to mention everyone. There are several here who have helped me through very rough times in the past, both through online support and in person. Gingy and Weirddave are among them, as is Anitavacation and nycscandia…err…I can never spell that right. You know who you are, and I hope you realize how much you have meant to me over the years. There are some people here who have gone to amazing lengths to help me and others and the world is a better place with those people in it.

Most of what I’d like to say about Dopers has been said, but add me to the list of those anticipating the return of Eve as well as Anaamika (who’s a sweetheart IRL by the way).

Let us not forget the willingness of Mangeorge to take matters into his own hands in the pursuit of science. We appreciate and respect (?) you.

I’d also like to acknowledge Cunctator, SDMB resident actuary and Sydneysider, and a swell chap on and off the boards.

Yup the Rite Spot is still kickin’. Honestly, I’d like to have a cigarette anywhere, but the state of California has decided that other people’s health is more important than mine. whatev

You have no idea. Smoking is now basically illegal in El Cajon; you can’t smoke in almost any business and you can’t smoke in public. Basically, you can only legally smoke within city limits if you’re in a consenting person’s house or smoke shop.

Wow . . . I’m actually teary-eyed thinking about all the wonderful posters on The Dope. I can’t possibly cite everyone who tickles my funny bone and stirs my heart bone, but I do try and read anything that Jsgoddess, Sampiro, What Exit?. Eleanor Rigby, and WhyNot post.

I love this place so freakin’ much, that I just lose my cool over it. I love the vibe of the place. It is the only place that I enjoy this unique vibe…no other area in my life gives quite the same kind of energy, and I am drawn to many posters whose posts I know will give off that energy I like, rather it be humor, wit, interesting input, intelligence, knowledge or some hardcore smack downs and in some cases the kind of posts that many call trolling, but that I find fascinating or fun.

There are a lot of posters that have the above qualities and I enjoy all of them so much.

Some of the posters that I love that give off one or more of the above qualities are

Askia (Love this cat!)
5-4-Fighting (that’s my baby)
You with the face
Jali
Biggirl
Monstro
Hostile Dialect
TLDR
Whynot
TomnDebb
Colibri
Cervaise
Sampiro
Liberal
Der Trihs
What Exit?
Hostile Dialect

bbs2k (whom I usually try to pretend not to acknowledge, but I think he is great. One time, someone said something mean to LobsterMobster, and he jumped to her defense with such quickness and passion that he stole my heart that day.)
Cosmic Relief ( says things with perfect calm and precision that can sometimes change my mind even when I’m heated on a topic.)
Left Hand of Dorkness
Miller
Third Culture Kid

fessie (who was an ali in a particular thread in which I was allowing emotions to get me all riled up)
All my heads from The Roc
All the real hip hop fans

A big thank you to the above mentioned, to all the new blood that come in and jump in with new and interesting stuff, and to all the people that I didn’t mention because I know I have to stop somewhere. A serious thank you to you all for providing me with a really enjoyable way to kill spare time.

A special shout out to Naja for pulling my coat to this thread. You are a cool cat.

Sorry to double post, but I missed the edit window.

I wanted to add that I am the kind of moron that really likes lots of people that don’t like me, so I left a lot of people off my list for that reason. I think people that don’t like you don’t appreciate you putting them on your mushy list. Inside my heart though, I still like them.

(some of the names on my list fit that criteria, but I like them sooo much, I listed them anyways.)

You have made my day (night, whatever). I could not receive a greater compliment. Even if TubaDiva herself entered this thread and said " I really like bbs2k, because he used to be an annoying little jerk but is trying to get better", I would still not be as moved. You are a tremendous boon for the boards. And keep pretending not to acknowledge me, this “hard to get” thing makes me follow you around with these puppy-dog eyes with every post you make.

Wait when did someone say something mean about me

Feel the love! Too bad it didn’t occur to me to call for a SoCal-Dopefest when I was in your neck of the woods a month ago…

Aww, shucks

beagledave and Stratocaster are two gentlemen of great civility and underrated intelligence.

The Q-and-A guys, incredible sources of information and knowledge, and usually entertaining: Bricker, Colibri, QtM, and Stranger on a Train. There are others, but these are the ones that really stick out for me. I would kill for a doc like Qadgop in my life, and I love reading Stranger’s detailed yet easily understood responses to very complex questions. I like how Bricker breaks down the law and legal decisions, and I very much like Colibri’s answers on all things biological.

Those whose insights remind me that we are truly a global place: Sublight, Paul in Saudi, Nava, TokyoPlayer, and some of the other overseas Dopers. One of my favorite things about this board is reading about everyday life in other cultures – like Sublight’s former career as a minister for Western-style Japanese weddings. And I always read Nava’s posts, because I love reading about her life in all the different places she’s lived.

The linguists I love: Hostile Dialect and Johanna. As a linguiphile, I’m incredibly jealous of Johanna’s working knowledge of all those languages, and I pay attention to anything either of them says in a language thread. In addition, I think Hostile Dialect is an all-around good guy, and I like to read his contributions.

elucidator: I love your one-liners and you incredibly on-point political wit.

Cervaise: Your knowledge of films and your passion for them is obvious. I read everything you write on the topic here, and I like your cooking threads too.

Sampiro, as a gay child of a crazed mother with a rural upbringing and a wide variety of undiagnosed mental issues, I read your stories with a combination of recognition, horror, amusement, and outright laughter. I really do think you should distill them into a memoir and shop it around.

WhyNot, you are a fantastic mother and a terrific person. I often don’t post something because you’ve beat me to it, and you’ve said it better.

jayjay, cause you’re awesome. And of course it was One of Us who pointed out that Gloria Gaynor and not Donna Summer who sang “I Will Survive.”

Aesiron, I think that if you and I had ever lived near each other, we’d’a been good friends. You remind me of myself on numerous occasions, but I don’t hold that against you ;).
