Oooh. Messing around at the creepypasta link (thanks a lot for the extra adrenaline, Family Photo!) reminded me of a photographer who IIRC I learned about at the Dope.
I’m not sure you want to click on that link. His images are incredibly disturbing, even when they have an element of playfulness.
And I’m not sure how I feel about his using real kids in these real setups. Though I admit that, having seen his pictures, I feel comforted reading his blog about how they were set up. Lowers the octane of the Nightmare Fuel a bit.
I just went to the Creepypasta Encyclopedia Dramatica link upthread and got scared by a .gif screamer in the gallery. They have a .gif screenshot of a story thread that I want to read, but I’m scared because it’s a .gif.
I remember seeing my first screamer in a Snopes forum thread. I was a teen and somewhat nocturnal, so the only light in the room was from my computer monitor. I jumped to my bed and had to gather the courage to go back to the computer and close the window.
Here are a couple abandoned dinosaur amusement parks I find a creepy. There is another urban exploration website I may be able to dig up later with some great shots of abandoned power plants and the like.
The Creepypasta site is probably the worst for me. Particularly the stories about the angel in the yard and going into the bathroom holding a mirror over your face. They just latch onto my imagination and will not. Let. Go. Especially at night.
How do you get into the 99 Rooms site? I get the “Hello there. You are now entering…” screen and I click on “Enter Normal” and all I get is the sale page for the CD. Am I doing something wrong?
The one I was thinking of that’s like “99 rooms” is “NFH Propaganda” NFH Propaganda - Walkthrough, Tips, Review. However, that page notes the website is no longer there.
They’re all pretty horrifying. I love (and am scared) of how in some of them you see a kid and then you sort of see a demon/killer pop up in the shadows next to them. Very unexpected horror movie type thing.
I’m reading his blog where he explains how he does them, and I’m feeling a little better about it. Like how you see a scary horror movie and then the making of calms you down.
I love the smile of the little girl after the “Devil” photoshoot, as shown in the blog. She’s obviously really relaxed, and pleased about how everyone liked the shoot.
I haven’t clicked on any of the links yet, but from reading the descriptions this sounds like my favorite kind of scary! I’m not a horror fan in the blood and gore sense, but I love to be scared. Creepy things are far scarier to me than something that jumps out at you or any type of gore.
The link about the “do you ever dream of this man” intrigues me the most, but I’m way too chicken to click on that or any of these links while I’m home alone :D.
In short, thanks! Can’t wait to explore some of these when I’m braver.
My favorite non-threatening SCPs are SCP-294, a coffee machine that dispenses anything you ask for (also has a fun read of an experiment log), and SCP-085, a sentient ink-and-paper drawing of a woman named “Cassy”. SCP-914 was instrumental in her creation.
I read through it…it was creepy, but I had a question:
When Mark said that the house was the same–did he mean he’d found the scary Venus Fly Trap house where Lucy/John and Andrew had lived? Because I thought he was looking for Andrew’s rental house…wasn’t clear on that.
OK, so I’ve been perusing the creepypasta stuff, and through some link or another, I managed to discover the Marble Hornets stuff. Wow, now that’s some seriously high-octane nightmare fuel, folks. Very, very well done, and subtle enough that the more gullible of the internet dwellers have glommed on to the Slender Man as a real creature, and reports of sightings have been popping up ever since.
I thought “Dionaea House” was good, but Marble Hornets is better.
It impressed me enough that I’m a-gonna start a different thread on it.
For Marble Hornets, is it the wiki link that you’re talking about or does it have its own site? I started reading the wiki and got kind of freaked out. I think I’m going to have to read this in the light of day…
