By my calculations, McCain will win thoroughly if he picks up CA, NY, and IL.

By my math, McCain needs EVERY toss-up state (not so unlikely…he leads in most), Virginia especially, and PA. PA’s going to be the big one, and he can’t get it. Perhaps MN is more likely, but it’s a stretch. To be clear, he needs to get AZ, MT, ND, MO, GA, NC, IN, OH, FL, and either MN or PA, in order of increasing difficulty. I think he’ll stop at NC or IN. OH, FL, PA, and MN are going the other way.

ETA: If he gets OH, IN, and FL, 2 out of NV-CO-NM would work too. That puts him at 270 or 274.

The Personnel Board Palin had asked to investigate the Troopergate thing found her – surprise! – free of any wrong doing.

Not to be confused with the legislative investigation which found her guilty of abusing her power as governor and violating ethics standards.

That’s about the trouper firing scandal and I wouldn’t call it a vindication as much as a report contradicting the first one. The case will go on and it will have about zilch impact on voting today.

I thought McCain’s only hope was to win all of FL, OH, VA, IN, MO, NV, NC and CO. McCain saw the map differently than me and pretty much gave up on CO to go after PA. I think it’s very unlikely he will win there though. Even if he does he will need a big run in other close states. He has no chance in MN.
