It came up in a Games thread about the NFL season, but I don’t remember what it was called.
Could be a short magazine story, or a novella, I don’t think it was very long.
Sci-fi type, maybe YA. Set in a RollerBall type of sports attitudes. Maybe written in the 1970s.
Two major game points:
Played in abandoned downtowns of cities.
A player called Hidden Safety was essentially a sniper. Allowed two bullets per game.
The story was told from the QB’s POV. I don’t remember any plot points, just what I posted above.
What was it? Was it actually any good?
