Scott Plaid, Stand Up or Shut Up

Yeah, WTF does that first sentence mean?

Yes, as a matter of fact - would you say my analysis of what you seemed to be saying earlier is accurate?

Regards,
Shodan

Well, “summery” always makes me think of “douche,” due no doubt to seeing commercials for Summer’s Eve. So my tentative analysis is that John knows how to use a douche, Shodan does not, and Scott feels violated. I’m open to other interpretations, though.

That I listen to boy bands. But really, yesterday, I posted a question. Prior to that, I posted a summery of how the situation appears to me. Tim Staab called me on it. Problem is, it was in no way a violation of the rules. Shodan did the same thing, in the post I linked too, and since it laid the ground work for a question, it was no violation.
**
Shodan**: It seems right on, for the most part, when combined with jsgoddess’s post. I should have put a smiley face after the following, however, so that you not have taken it so seriously. “ Because of the logical error know as argument from authority.”

P.S. Summary :smack:

I characterized your post as a statement/argument/question.
Statement:

This really goes without saying. You don’t seem to understand any reasoning.

Argument:

You call this a summary? It is an attempt at argument. But you have a poor grasp of what one of those looks like.

Question:

Framed as a question, but actually still part of the argument.

Having read this entire endless thread, I still can’t decide if you are simply a semi-literate idiot with delusions of intelligence and insight, or some sort of nut I’ve never encountered before. This has been interesting.

Dammit Shodan, stop posting in this thread.
Every time I see your name that fucking Queen song pops into my head:

“We are the champions, we are the champions…”

It’s HORRIBLE!

Oh, you mean Shodan’s post that I asked you about, and about which you later said:

back in post # 488?

'kay. Just checking.

No problem.

I’d like to propose changing the title of the thread.

Scott Plaid, [del]Stand Up or[/del] Shut Up.

Never mind – I realized you were only talking about Tim Staab’s specific claim and arguing that you did the equivalent kind of questioning that Shodan did.

However, as to “Shodan would have lost on the first day” – didn’t your non-question post to the Mutant Registration thread precede that one you linked from Shodan? I don’t have the links in front of me at the moment, so I don’t know the exact time stamps.

Assuming this was intended as a competition in the first place… heh.

I nominate CandidGamera for PostSpotting.

It isn’t, as John has said quite clearly. However…

Nope. Shodan’s was on 07-05-2005, while mine was 07-06-2005.

WooHoo! Scott wins again!

The question I have for Scott Plaid, Shodan, and John Mace is simple:

What, if anything, did you learn anything from your involvement in the great question experiment?

Thanks for posting this. I had planned to ask this very question.

I learned that it’s hard work to be a moderator, and without other posters to bring stuff to my attention, I wouldn’t have had a chance to be an effect judge.

I’d very much like to know what, if anything, **Scott **and **Shodan **learned.

Anyone: Is this a worthwhile experiment? Should we try it again sometime, with other posters?

Sorry, but I don’t get the connection.

Regards,
Shodan

I think that the joke is that you are seen as the champion, and he gets a mental image of the song as a result. However, since the song is hard to get out of one’s mind, this is very annoying to him.

OK, fair enough. I hope I don’t come across as gloating. I wanted to treat this as an intellectual exercise, not a competition.

Accordingly -

Why do you ask?

Let’s see -
[ul][li]Dopers express themselves well. It is relatively rare that a lot of questions are needed to clarify a position. Although it does happen with some.[/li][li]More often than not, I have my mind made up when I open a thread in GD. Big surprise, eh? [/li][li]Don’t know if it is just me, but the rhetorical question for effect is hard to distinguish from the genuine request for clarification. [/li][li]Lots of folks aren’t reacting to what is said. They are reacting to what they wanted to be said. I can’t tell if this is deliberate or not. I suspect not always. [/li][/ul]An interesting experience, if nothing else. Don’t know if I recommend it to others, or not.

Regards,
Shodan

Perhaps it would work out with people such as Liberal and lekatt.

Well, I feel a little more willing to stop and listen now. The following applies to me, too.

Except that I already noticed the problem seen in the last entry and looked for other examples here

I may be hated, but not on the same scale as Sauron. Back in post 249 he posted the following:

Now, I could easily imagine that being read in my voice, so as to say that it applies to me. I suspect that was how it was meant to be read. Only thing is, it doesn’t. I have received not a single email about this issue. I have no problem with that.

Also, I should never ever brag. In the thread about Santorum reading the bible, I posted a factual answer to a question that Bricker had about Judaism. I answered it. He refused to believe what I was saying, and after a while, I posted a little victory speech. He went on to argue even more, and both sides wore each other out. Besides that, and one or two other times, I do not believe that I have ever “claimed victory”. True, I believe I am right, and the opposing side is wrong, but that hardly means I have “won.” However, the difference is too subtle for most. This lead to the oh so funny phrase “I, won!”

All in all, the image I have of myself is of someone who is able too see wholes in arguments, and point them out. I sometimes post indecipherable comments, which are sometimes due to my impatience in posting about a hot button issue, and are sometimes due to the fact that people see things in many different ways.

Don’t be too sure about that…
