Scott Plaid, Stand Up or Shut Up

Noted.

What a bad time to hit submit prematurely.

I think you’ll find that while “judgment” is correct, so is “judgement.”

See here, for instance.

Maybe you do see this.

Unfortunately, what many of the rest of us see is, (metaphorically speaking) you limping into a bar. Both your eyes are blackened, and one is closed. You are missing six teeth, you have three cracked ribs and an arm in a sling, and you have to sit sideways on the bar stool because the stitches in your rectum from removing a large foreign body are still sensitive.

You spot Bricker at the other end of the bar, with his hair combed and immaculately dressed apart from a smudge on one lapel.

“Hey!”, you shout to Bricker. “Didn’t you learn your lesson yet?”

Regards,
Shodan

Same to you. Oh, and just to be snippy, is this your idea of a debate? Did you ‘win’?

I understand your frustration, since you have difficulty expressing your ideas.
But surely you should study the replies in this thread and see if you can learn from them.

No, I don’t think it is a debate. I think it is a pitting, and I am responding, rather then just let myself be insulted.

To be honest with you I’m not really expecting anyone to listen to what I say or to be moved to changing their mind about an issue. It’s not going to happen. I, as you, simply occupy the space for my cause. I’m here to let (hopefully) some people know that there is an opinion like theirs out there. I mean, I could quote fact after fact from impartial source after source, constructing an argument so vast that no one could refute it without much research and time invested. But 99% of time they are just going to ignore it without verifying anything let alone to skim it. It’s much easier to get your opinions spoon fed.

Anyone who claimed to respect a well-crafted argument that I dispensed and yet continued to hold the same opinion doesn’t really respect that argument in my estimation. I realize that they could respect my literary style but that would be arrogance on my part to believe this. I write what I write to provide information and ammunition for people who hold similar beliefs as I. This dialog strengthens and codifies these beliefs. This is what you do as well. How many liberal have you converted?

I think Scott loves all this attention, negative or otherwise. In that regard, there is only one way to get him to calm down.

And, as much as I’d like to see him clean up his composition*, he’ll still remain an idiot. I mean, is there any real value in an articulate post that explains why business = evil? When there’s no logic or facts behind an argument, it’s still just an opinion no matter how well the post is crafted.

*not that mine is anything to crow about…

I don’t know how many I’ve converted as a whole. On individual issues, I like to think that I’ve opened some eyes to some things – and, in turn, had my eyes opened. There have been a number of times where I’ve yielded to a clear and cogent argument from the other side.

When I started posting here, I supported civil unions for same-sex couples, but was adamantly against calling it “marriage.” Subsequent to some very determined and to-the-point conversation with Left Hand of Dorkness, I became convinced that this view was wrong. I now support same-sex marriage.

Let me repeat both my original post and some other recent quotes:

Can you not see a difference between these responses?

Yep.

I think we need a visit from our cognitive dissonance experts.

(Or maybe just a continuity director from a movie studio.)

You see, glee might be angry for me for the same reasons as giraffe, but glee is annoying me more, and I respect giraffe’s intelligence. Thus, I am responding to glee’s insults. At the same time, I am taking the advice offered by those I respect as constructive criticism. No cognitive dissonance there.

This was your response to Giraffe about who had heard of the Pet Shop Boys.

Nothing to do with the quotes I posted.

Why do you take my attempt to help you with better expressed posting as a Pitting, but ignore posters calling you ‘lacking insight’, ‘embarrassing’, ‘clueless’, ‘unreliable in judgement’ and an ‘idiot’?

Because of the following:

I am planning to address Shodan and Bricker in a future post.

We already hired Bev Wilbraham.
I have no opinion either way on Scott, but its’ not everyday that a set-up like that comes along.

Scott, I asked ‘why do you take my attempt to help you with better expressed posting as a Pitting?’.

You replied with an incomplete version of my post and no explanation why this makes for a ‘Pitting’.

Here is the key missing sentence:

And here is some of Rubystreak’s advice:

"Scott, I don’t know you and you don’t know me. I have never debated you and though I’ve seen your name in other threads, I never took note of you, since I don’t post in GD or ATMB. I opened this thread on a whim. I’m just telling you this so that you know my advice is sincere and not coming from some previous ill feeling towards you.

I suspect you’re pretty young and writing is not your strongest mode of expression. Some of your posts are so poorly written that, even though I know what you mean, you make so many errors in grammar and syntax that it’s very hard to take you seriously. I teach 7th grade English and I see papers like this all the time-- this is not a comparison I’m thrilled to be making about a fellow liberal and Doper.

My advice: either proofread your posts more carefully or compose them in Word and run them through a spelling and grammar checker before you hit Submit. Everyone makes mistakes, but you make whole word substitutions or use tortured syntax which cripples your ability to make your point."

(I wish I’d said all this first, since I agree with every word of it.)
I gave an further example of your writing containing some of the above failings.
Would you rather I called you names?

No idea.
My point was that due to grammar/spelling errors and eight ideas being packed into two sentences–what you wrote, standing by itself, is incoherent babbling. Certainly in the context of of the entire post it might have been in people might have been able to achingly got some meaning out of it. But honestly, we would rather not subject are brains to such horror.
It was a meaningless, inchoate, blot devoid of any pretense at logic or care for the reader. I’m certain it wasn’t intended to be, of course, but as is…“go straight to jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200.” :frowning:

Because, the parts of your post I quoted were insulting enough to piss me off. Sure, you might be a teacher, but so what? So am I. Baltimore Public Summer school, teaching third graders, as part of a program to have college students teach. Two years running. TeachBaltimore program. To this day, I still get to go to the Science Center for free, due to my Teacher I.D. card. Anyway, my point is, if you want to offer advice, don’t follow it with, say for example, exactly what you just said.

Also, I responded to Rubystreak’s excellent points in post 98, or somewhere around there.

Now it’s getting good!

No shit, it causes a fever? Maybe you shouldn’t be getting so worked up about these pyrrhic victories, eh?

All bullshit aside, though:

(I doubt you’re going to listen to anything I have to say anyway, but here goes.)

The worst part of your writing, Scott, is that you appear to be completely unable to construct a readable expository essay. You jumble your theses; your supporting statements are so torturously constructed that they end up meaningless; the evidence you offer in support of your theses are weak. Your conclusions - when you draw them at all - are generally invalid. Combined with your sometimes nonsensical vocabulary…well, you come across as an idiot, quite frankly.

I’m truly sorry you seem to have become so enamoured of the delete tag. You think it lends some sort of sophisticated wittiness to your posts, but it really doesn’t, expecially when you use it so often. Now and again, to make a satirical point or crack a quick joke it can be effective, but you’ve managed to turn a fly swatter into a bludgeon.

I don’t think you preview hard enough.
