I found this article on Scott Walker today while I was reading about something else. The article talks about a recent appearance Gov. Walker made on Sean Hannity’s show where he was asked about abortion to save a woman’s life. Gov. Walker had this to say:

It’s a false choice. There is always a better option out there. I’ve said for years, medically there’s always a better choice than choosing between the life of an unborn baby and the life of the mother," he added. "Medically that’s just a nonissue.

As the Washington Monthly piece goes on to describe, Gov. Walker is incorrect here. Demonstrably, factually wrong.

How did this clown get elected, let alone re-elected, as Governor?

And also – recalling the thread about it in GD – how much he also hates universities and all institutions of higher learning and the academics that inhabit them. And by extension, how much he hates science and fact-based reality.

But he’s not only a hater, he’s also a lover. He loves the Koch brothers, and he loves their money even more.

The thing that makes him dangerous is that he pretends to be indifferent, even somewhat reasonable sounding, on the crazy end of right wing social policy. He’s had a huge advanage in WI where he can get all the shit he wants passed without going out on a limb in public and really pushing for any of it. He doesn’t need to.

But IMO this won’t work with 2016’s stable of Republican candidates. He HAS to make a lot of noise or he will be completely overlooked and be out of the running before he even realizes it.

I don’t understand it, because as I said in another thread, Walker inspires the most fear and loathing in me of all the Republican candidates (which is really saying something). And I thought he was impressive at the debate, but not according to everyone else. The pundit/prognosticator in me is like “WTF, people–you are messing up my bracket!” LOL But given that the polls still show him to be one of the most formidable standardbearers in general election matchups, my inner partisan Democrat is loving it. This, from a recent NPR story on Walker’s fall in Iowa, is a LMAO, pinch-me dream quote:

Trump now leads Walker in polling in Iowa. And while Walker is still in the top tier of candidates here and nationally, his support has eroded. His backers haven’t necessarily shifted to Trump, but possibly to other candidates on the rise, including Ben Carson, Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina.

Experts were taken aback by the scope of Walker’s proposals, which seek to undo decades of law and would gut the landmark National Relations Labor Act - adopted in 1935 and signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the height of the Great Depression.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Ann Hodges, a professor at the University of Richmond who has studied labor law for more than 40 years. “This will take the breath away from anyone who’s worked in labor relations for any length of time. … It’s pretty draconian.”

Lee Adler, a labor law expert at Cornell University, said Walker’s proposals would eliminate workers’ rights and make it more difficult for people to join the middle class.

“Mr. Walker could only be making these type of proposals to satisfy his most backward-looking, wealthy contributors, just as he pursued, as governor, policies advanced by these people that sought to destroy school teachers and other public employees’ rights in Wisconsin,” he said.
