This is really obscure. The character never appeared in any other cartoon and it wasn’t done by any major studios (Warner Brothers, Disney, etc). The last time I saw the cartoon was in the late 1950’s and the stations would only play this if (for example) a baseball game ended quickly and they needed some time to fill.
The Scottish Terrier started out using a vaccuum cleaner and then (since he was Scottish) he started using the vaccuum cleaner bag as a bagpipe. And then for some reason he started quoting from Edgar Alan Poe’s “The Raven”. The final line in the cartoon was “Quote the raven… Neverrrrrrrrr more !!”. (With a rolled ‘r’ in never).
Anyone remember or know about this cartoon?
I’m not sure, but this might be it:

I have some very vague memories of something similar. I’d consider Fleischer a major studio, though.
Sounds like something I would remember if I had seen it. Was it network, you think? Or local?
Since you asked for that obscure one, may I piggyback and ask for one even more obscure? Mine is from an older era (say late 40’s to early 50’s) and was a studio quality cartoon featurette seen in movies as a short.
There was this raven/magpie/crow looking bird (a lot like those Heckle and Jeckle birds) that would just walk across the screen to a musical riff and on like the third or fourth beat it would hop up and then continue along. In the background all sorts of catastrophes would be happening. Volcanos erupting, earthquakes, huge fires, avalanches, landslides.
Don’t remember seeing it but once or twice in the theater(s) and never on TV.
I do hope you get some help on this, wolf_meister, since I know how badly things like that can bug a person.
That is it !!!
I would consider Fleischer a major studio also but it had been so long since I had seen that, I’m surprised I could remember the details that I did.
So, thanks yabob !!
Zeldar, you might be better off starting a new thread, considering people coming here would be Scottish Terrier cartoon folks.
And YES Zeldar, I vaguely remember the crow cartoon and if I remember correctly, the crow had a sullen droopy expression. Also, I believe, there is classical music playing in the background - something akin to what is played in the Warner Brothers “Mighty Angelo” (who is a flea) cartoon. (Hmm that might be another good thread to start - what is the classical music in that).
Hope that was some help to you Zeldar.
This message board is GREAT - someone asked about cartoon factory music in another thread and got an answer.
wolf_meister,
No point to another thread now. You answered most of what I recalled. The music part I almost included in my description!
OTOH, a thread with just the generalized title “obscure or forgotten cartoons” might bring in stuff none of us remembered we had forgotten. Like Droopy.
Thanks for allowing me to share. I’ve started too many dead-end threads to gamble on a new one as off-the-wall as this.
I do remember a crow that would walk slowly across the screen and hop every so often, but I don’t remember the context. The music was an arrangement of the main theme of Mendelssohn’s “Fingal’s Cave” overture. There’s a midi of it on this page: http://www.classicalarchives.com/mendel.html
rowrrbazzle — that is DEFINITELY the music for the “Mighty Angelo” cartoon and the crow cartoon.
And Zeldar - does that help you out somewhat?
WOW - this message board has got some VERY clever people. Maybe we all could get together and … oh I don’t know … take over the world ?? BWA-HA-HA !!!
Precisely!!
