If a certain posters threads are an anathema to you then dont read them, but dont go around dictating to people what they should or should not post or what they should or should not think.
I wonder how many potentially interesting contributers to these boards have decided that SDMB is not for them all because of a few self appointed, self important Censors who are’nt really concerned with the standard of topics but are really giving themselves a cheap little thrill by being spiteful to some poor unassuming individual who has done nothing to deserve the venom unleashed on them.
Is it the “being spiteful” bit that they get off on or is it the feeling of power that they’ve forced someone who was really looking forward to being a Doper into quitting these boards?
And we are diminished by the loss of posters who ARE’NT going to post in our own cosy little way on our own cosy little pet topics.
This is a site for intelligent, imaginative adults NOT a schoolyard and Newbies do NOT have to suffer gratutious abuse as some sort of rite of passage.
IRL nobody bullies me becauseI am rather robustly built and because I am self confident I dont need to compensate for any lack of self esteem by bullying others or for that matter allow people to bully others in my presence.
It is my experience that those who are bullies or who encourage Frat house type initiations for what ever purpose are almost always gutless little cowards .
I suspect that those who bully on the internet are the most pathetic of the cowards, mouthing off in a way and to people that they’d never dare do IRL.
If you cant get through your life without having to pick on people then why dont you fuck off to some other MB dedicated to the sick and twisted.
I doubt if I am the only one who feels this way about some of the creeps who post here.

You aren’t alone, Lust. This pitting was pathetic from the onset. Unintentionally hilarious, mind, but even the amusement value was pretty thin.
First, damned few posters have a worst record of reflexive vomitous posting than Guin. She didn’t get to 30K by posting quality. Second, ubiquity doesn’t equal ownership–or, in less high-falutin’ terms, just because someone has nothing better to do in life than hang around a frickin’ message board doesn’t make magically morph the person into anything more board mold. Somebody can be all over the frickin’ place without having actually contributed shit. Third, if relentlessly hanging around doesn’t grant squatter’s right, it sure as hell doesn’t confer authority. Most people grow out of bullying new kids “Because I was here first!” sometime around, oh say, age 5.

On the plus side, I’m now keeping an eye out for eggs’ threads in a continuingly baffled effort to understand what this was all about.

Ditto - I suppose in some small way this may have been a good thread, if only because it pointed out some threads that have turned out to be pretty interesting that I may not have seen otherwise.
But ignoring the source and just looking at the subject. scrambledeggs, as Hockey Monkey opines, is probably a guest who has a lot o’ questions and is simply posting them before his/her membership runs out.
[/QUOTE]
I’m reticent to participate in a thread so loaded with vitriol, however, I love a testable hypothesis.
If scrambledeggs is, in fact chock full o’ good questions, but pressed for time to get them all posted before the guest membership expires, I would be more than willing to sponsor his/her membership. This would allow him/her to post at a leisurely pace, ensuring considered participation in many threads of varied origin, as well as the reflective time required to carefully compose new Opening Posts. (Hockey Monkey’s Hypothesis).
The alternative hypothesis, stated in the OP by Guinastasia, seems to be that scrambledeggs is has bad posting habits, and will therefore be likely continue to post in a manner annoying to her. I realize that we’ve potentially altered the quantum state of scrambledeggs posting habits by discussing them, but I think a year’s subscription should be sufficient time to see what kind of doper scrambledeggs will be.

Well, what does it matter to be judged by people you don’t know, and you’ll never meet, and who don’t even know your real name, or you theirs?
It’s kind of a rite of passage for newbies here – to get bitch-slapped a few times by posters who’ve decided they are board’s fashion editors – and to come to realize these opinions mean nothing in any larger sense – and to keep posting what you want to post. If you’re a real freakazoid, don’t worry, sooner or later you’ll be banned.
Or, you can cringe and go away voluntarily. Sadly, it’s a pretty common response, as most people have thin skins and and are too trusting in the judgements of others. Hope you don’t choose this route.

This is what I was going to post if you hadn’t beaten me to it. We make these boards what they are; if we don’t like the way they are, we can leave or we can participate to try to stimulate the change we’d like to see.
I’m saying this as encouragement to just get in there and start making your voice heard, Fiveroptic and any other lurkers reading this. Don’t be afraid to post, don’t be afraid to apologize if you realize you posted something wrong, and don’t be afraid to tell other people to go fuck themselves if they really earn it. There are smarter people here than you and I, but there is no one who has more right to post.
I’ve noticed the sheer glut of posts from scrambledeggs, and I will admit that over the last few days I’ve gone into GQ (or CS or IMHO) and rolled my eyes a bit at the litany of threads from just one poster.
However, even though some questions might be a bit simplistic and “googleable” I’ve just had my little moment and then moved on. They’re not posting offensive threads, they’re not dumping controversial threads and then moving on, they’re not threadshitting in other people’s threads… Who are they harming, exactly?
My hope is that eggs is just trying to cram as much into their guest membership as possible, and will end up staying, and end up hopefully fitting more into the flow of the place.
At this point, I’d like to say, that while I STILL find scrambled a bit rude, I will concede that this posting was overkill. (And no, I’m not saying this out of a “hey, I want to agree with the popular crowd!” attitude)

Thus your usual response to every Pit thread you have started for the last eight years.
Post your normal lame-ass shit, hoping to get a poster piled onto, it backfires, you post/babble a couple more times, then finally say well uh duh maybe I was a bit uh well…
Didn’t Small British Shop Owner open about a hundred threads while a guest? We accepted him before he got banned. Post all you want to scrambledeggs and be ready for the squid.
Well, at this point, what else is there to say? I either keep arguing, and get shut down, or I give in out of “I no longer give a fuck”, and I get roasted either way.

try admitting you were wrong to pit a newbie in this way.

The best part was someone with 20,000 posts telling someone with 30,000 posts to shut up.
