That’s a kinda scary thought. We’d have to weight the numbers from various forums; noise in MPSIMS is not the same as noise in GD.
I didn’t mean to suggest that Guin might be voted off the boards in such a situation. I’m just speculating that some posters are motivated in part by a sense of validation that participation gives them, and that a user rating system would throw that dynamic somewhat out of whack.

See, this is the funniest fallout from this thread: all those pilers-on who decided that it was more worthwhile to disagree with Guin for purely ad hominem reasons than to acknowledge the undeniable fact that Eggs is an annoying, noisy retard, find themselves irrevocably on the idiot’s side, and are compelled now to defend him, at all costs, no matter how many more threads with no other apparent intention than to prove Guin right.
Check out some of Eggs’ threads: everyone who’s defended him here feels the necessity to participate constructively in his inane threads, simply to prove their ridiculous position that this threads are valid.
This has seriously been one of the funniest things to happen here in a while, all these people whose dislike of Guin has led them to paint themselves into this indefensible corner.
I entirely agree with lissener, and strongly believe that had someone else started this thread, the reaction would have been entirely different (although I realise this is utterly unprovable). When Guin started it, the idiot in question had a ratio of approximately two threads posted to every time he’d reply (which he has maintained), so he isn’t even coming back to his own threads, let alone anyone else’s. And everyone slamming Guin here is honestly saying that doesn’t set off even a little bell? I’m on record as detesting the hunt-the-newbie culture, but this one is a no-brainer on every level.
It’s crazy that despite the guy now getting piled on in the obesity thread, it is still Guin who is accused of trying to have her cake and eat it. Certain people (who will remain Q.E.D. and Lust4Life) have been utter cunts in this thread, far beyond any rational basis and drawing on truly inexplicable (but not untraceable, of course) resources of spite.
I’m sure I’m one of the posters you refer to here, but the thing is, I never actually defended scrambledeggs. The closest I came was saying that the pitting was stupid. Which it was.
I finally got annoyed enough to tell Guin what I thought of her, which makes me guilty of being off-topic, but nothing else. Maybe I should’ve just started my own pit thread, but I didn’t. I don’t feel I’ve painted myself into a corner.

Dichotomies, pointless dichotomies. One of the most annoying things I see on this board is this damnable habit to make two possibilities into an either-or situation. The older I get the more I find the world isn’t so black and white. I leave it as an exercise to the reader to figure out what I’m referring to.
Well, judging by your earlier posts, I’d say that you are claiming that it’s entirely possible to criticise both Guin and our fervid interrogator, and are accusing lissener and me of presenting a false dichotomy that one must pick one or the other (though neither of them are to be what they claim).
Assuming this is the case, I certainly agree with the former, but must disagree with the latter. My point is that the bile spewed towards Guinastasia was so utterly disproportionate to the supposed offence, and that the mental contortions undergone by its purveyors were so embarrassingly manifest that the only conclusion to be reached is that they were simply looking for an excuse to pile on Guinastasia. The sheer spiteful reach of their posts bears this out beyond reasonable denial, to my mind.
But then again, re-reading your first post in this thread, I just can’t tell. Any chance you could be a little less inscrutable? It’d be so much easier to tell whether you’re black or white (metaphorically speaking).

Sure, no harm done. But just to reiterate, my point is certainly not that one must pick a side in this case. It’s that I’m utterly astounded by what complete wankers certain people are being over an absolute nothing; a trifle, possibly even a soufflé. Ask me to pick who I find more distasteful; the person who asks a newbie politely to perhaps interact a bit more and bombard us slightly less, or those who decide to level intensely personal insults over a slight more imagined than real and not even suffered by them, and I know damn well who I’m choosing.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the posters who complain about other people’s posting habits usually have irritating quirks themselves. One of which is usually complaining about other posters.
You come across here as a complete douchebag, but having used the electronic medium to communicate for over a decade, I’ve learned that peoples’ poor communication skills are often the blame for arguments and misunderstanding. You could be a very nice person in real life who’s just a very poor communicator with the written word.
Having said that, some people in this thread made very personal and hurtful comments toward you that cannot be misconstrued. The possibility that they’re poor communicators is unlikely and they’re probably miserable assholes in the flesh.
