scrambledeggs, please, give the threads a rest

that crazy spy guy (FOREIGN AGENT?)
FORMRAGENT was the best. He had a computer in his spy car that could get an Internet connection anywhere (eight years ago). He had to manufacture the spy car story because he made one post saying he was about to leave the spy office for the day and would post when he got home. The “I’m home, guys!” post was like five minutes later, so he explained the timeline problems away by telling everyone that he’d made his previous post from his spy car.

Great, great stuff.

I miss Wildest Bill. :frowning: He was so enthusiastically crazy.

I, too, am a very longtime lurker and sort of remember this - was he the one with the hang up about women and “poofy” hair?
IDBB was before my time too, but I think I remember her too. I did lots of lurking and reading up on the dramas of the SDMB – hell the juicy stuff was a big part of why I finally joined up.

Wasn’t she some really young, really stupid, really trashy chick who worked at like Burger King or some fast food joint and used to blog about her foreign supervisor? Actually I think the whole thing started when she got preggers with her trashy boyfriend and was generally irresponsible during the pregnancy, which pissed off a bunch of Dopers, one of whom I believe was having troubles conceiving herself (which made this a raw wound for her I suppose). Then the Doper gals … the self-yclept “Bitch Brigade,” weren’t they? … went off and stalked her on her own LiveJournal, where she did the aforementioned kvetching about her Arab boss whom she likened to a terrorist or some such. And that’s why we know she’s racist in the first place.

Good times. /Bill MacNeal

Anyway, back OT: I took Guin to task for this pitting, but I also think it’s nauseating that certain posters take the opportunity to get nastily personal. Guin may have made a rather typically Guin-esque error in starting this thread, but she was hardly cruel enough to deserve the insults that others have tossed her way. I know, I know, this is the pit, and people let fly with plenty of worse remarks. Still, I think the punishment should fit the crime. Wait until she earns the nastiness, says I.
You have the basics of IDBB correct, though I know nothing of the livejournal stuff as I never venture over there. She worked at Sonic, and the pregnancy thing resulted in an 8 page trainwreck of a thread because she was unwilling to face the realities of what carrying and delivering a baby entails. This was towards the end of her time here IIRC.

ANYhoo, to the second part: the nastiness is coming from the fact that certain people are sick and tired of seeing Guin pit someone, have it backfire on her, and then say “My mistake” and try to steer the thread in a new direction, or have it closed. The nastiness has been earned several times over. She’s been called out on it before, and it never changes. As I said upthread, I finally got fed up enough to say something about it.

And this:

is more typical Guin BS, the faux sexual bravado. Sigh.

If it were not that I can’t do the board from work at my new job, I could do such a transition in about 90 seconds. 180 seconds if it was raining and I had to stay on the paved walk. 220 seconds if it was late enough to check my mail. Come to think of it, the only way it would take longer than five minutes was if I needed beer.

Anyway, we have, in the past, encouraged posters to participate in the threads they start, especially in the more give-and-take forums. We’re a community, or at least we try and hope to be. Even Socrates participated in the discussion of his interesting questions.

Hmmmm…looks like I MAY just be right, or at least have a wee bit more evidence.

Oh for fucks sake. If you predict that a meteor is going to strike Austrailia for no good reason and it happens anyway that doesn’t make you right, it makes you lucky.

Evidence of what? Are you still talking about posting only in threads s/he started, or trollerly, or what?

They do, you know.

I’m pretty new around here, but I do try to post a lot. Hopefully I can eclipse that 10,000 post mark soon so I can join the ranks of elitist asshole snobs that get to put the beatdown on teh ghey noobs!!111
Anyway, I have to say thanks to all for the laughs this pitting elicited. Some damn funny material right here.

Has anyone ever mentioned the idea of a “SDMB Hall Of Fame” forum, where classic threads can be stored as an archive?

You don’t have to wait til 10,000+ to act like an Elitist snob and having 10,000+ does not require you to be one.

At least I slowed down a little or I might have caught **Guin ** and the others.

What we need is to assign signal to noise ratio numbers for our posters. Then we can separate the wheat from the chaff and the gravel and the insect parts.

Rodent hairs, excrement and “unknown particulate matter” should also be points of distinction along the chain if you ask me, Doc.

Interesting notion. I wonder what the SDMB would look like today if we had features like thread voting and poster ratings in place from the beginning. I’m guessing scrambledeggs would be taking some kind of reputation hit right now, and Guin probably wouldn’t be here at all.

Is she really that bad? To steal from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, she appears to be “mostly harmless”. She appears well liked in the MPSIMS & MMP areas. I have seen some interesting posts on historical information from her. Have I missed some pattern other than dumb pit threads that would have driven her off the board?

FTR, that was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I unfortunately omitted the ‘winky’ emoticon.
