Unfortunately I’m working a new job and was out of the office the last two days doing field tours. I should be around but it looks like I’m going to have to spend at least two days a week out in the field for the rest of the year. (By the way the field is a third world, ok west Texas, hell hole without the internet)
But I did manage to think through the whole Tom Scud thing. I’m sure that we’re way past this part in the discussion but I figured I’d post my thoughts. That last time I was around I said that I was watching for a bandwagon to form on him and that I was confused why one didn’t.
The only reasonable explanation that I can come up with is that town tends to forget slips or at least care less about them as time passes so with a Day in-between his slip and this first chance to vote on it not one cared enough. On the other hand I’m surprised none of the scum jumped on a townie slip since it should in theory be an easy way to get someone lynched.
While IIRC Tom did pick up votes one of them was another person who claimed to be looking for bandwagon jumpers and so was trying to start then wagon for them to jump on. This tells me that the scum were intentionally staying away either counting on the town to do their work for them or because Tom is scum. When I got to this point yesterday in the shower I concluded that the simple answer was the Tom was scum but in the process of typing it up I’m not sure especially since we ended up lynching a townie anyway.

I’ve already given all the information I’m going to give on the subject.
I know for a fact that CIAS lied about my aligment in his drawn-out, contradictory and confusing reveal of his investigation results. Whether he was a traitor, ex-Scum Leader, Scum-aligned, Town-aligned or whatever, he lied about my alignment and that sucks. I was impressed that the whole CIAS debacle wasn’t mentioned once in the numerous attacks on me yesterday, I really thought we’d agreed to completely ignore his claim and posts. If he lied about me, he probably lied about Tom too but that was irrelevant until Tom resurrected it from the grave.
I feel the reasoning behind my suspicions on Scuba were valid: I thought he was scum, he acted scummily, he lurked (after offering to sub in for someone who had been lurking) and I don’t believe my single vote was enough for his lynch. I did not explicitly encourage anyone to join the bandwagon and obviously did what I could to avoid my own mislynch. I unvoted when I thought USC was a surer target, his confrontational play deserved at least an OMGUS vote but I got a neutral vibe from his WoW and so placed my vote on the scummiest of the 3 players I hadn’t cleared as either “almost confirmed” town (Boozy & Gryff), “likely town” (BD, Normal, Ore, Allwalker and until recently, Tom), or “need more info on role before deciding” (OaOW). If that’s reason enough to mislynch me, well fine, I accept, I was wrong about Scuba.

Ya want what I’m thinking? Here’s what I’m thinking:
First of all, I don’t buy Normal’s argument that Cat’s posts don’t make sense as a Town player, because they don’t make sense as a Scum player, either. Surely it would be in a Scum player’s best interest to come out firing with a counter-lynch proposal in his opening post, or if you say “well maybe Cat hadn’t come up with his full counterclaim idea in his first post” then in his second post. So I’m stuck with the radical idea that maybe he failed to play optimally, because he was irritated at being handed a Miller role or at being caught by an investigator or whatever.
Second, if Cat WAS scum, then we’re looking at a total faceroll from here on out - 3 scum down, probably 2 or 3 scum left out of 11 (9 or 10 after dawn); we lynch Diver, we lynch tilt and test her claim, we maybe lynch OaOW if we don’t like his role claim, if we’re still playing we re-check whoever’s left. Basically, lots of room to make mistakes.
If Cat was town, then there are 3-4 Scum left, and we’re pretty close to LyLo. And if we roll down my list above, then we’ll find out we had one extra scum to catch at the point when they control the voting.
But I’m the guy who had the weird wacky idea that Alka might be third party, so yeah, just lynch me instead.
And Gryff, you did not cover it there. The mods’ answer was ambiguous, deliberately or no. Are you saying that I’ve got the mods cooperating with my tricky attempt to sow confusion?
The one question I have, Tom, is why did Cat smudge you after investigating you as allegedly Town? That’s really the main reason why I found Cat to be completely unbelievable.
Also, could there have been fewer Scum due to the fact that they had so many power roles?
Easy enough for you to check the answers with the mods via PM or on the Scum boards before you asked in the game thread.
Drain. On that one, he said that my play “looked scummy” but he didn’t actually accuse me of being scum, or throw a vote my way. He might have just been trying to back me off. Bear in mind that on Turn 1 he threw a vote your way on the slightest of pretexts.
Investigators leave breadcrumbs just in case they die before being outed. A good Cop would not have said you looked scummy after investigating you as Town.
