The skirmish between peeker and TomScud is now beginning to look to me like two scum fighting for show. I thought at first that it was just peeker going on and on about something that looked like nothing to everyone else, but I wonder now why Tom keeps defending himself and prolonging the skirmish when no one else thinks he was suspicious and he’s obviously not going to convince peeker. Tom’s vote on peeker would seem to indicate that they are not a pair of scum, but it’s early in the Day – and so something to keep an eye on.
You know, when somebody tells you you’re talking nonsense, it’s possible that they’re saying so because you’re so smart and they’re so dumb. But there’s another possibility, too.
whoa whoa, time the eff out. no such thing is being said by me. i am just playing this game.
my sarcasm is certainly not meant to impugn anyone. shoot ask anyone who has played more than a dozen or so of these suckers with me.
i may be caustic but i sure am not questioning anyone else’s ability.
i mean when the germans bombed pearl harbor i just knew that belushi was a cocaine wreck waiting to happen.
Oh, no offense taken, and none intended. Didn’t mean to generalize beyond the point at issue. I should have been more clear about it.
I just still think that particular point was nonsense.
So, Daphne, does this mean I can honestly say that women find me inscrutable?
Let me say this: in Lost Mafia I was a lie detector, and hunting for a player remarking on their own alignment was difficult. Plus, I never had much choice as to who I investigated. I see no harm in saying
I am Town aligned
whether or not there is a lie detector. It certainly isn’t fishing.
So, by my reckoning, most of the voting has fallen into two camps - voting for jpei for abstaining (then weakly justifying it), as well as the peeker vs Tom deathmatch.
Honestly, I think jpei was more of a noob mistake then anything, and I am reluctant to punish that sort of thing. And I think a Scum, especially a Scum noob, would be less willing to defend such a nonvote and more willing to apologise and write it off. But then if I knew how all Scum thought this game would be easy.
As for the peeker vs Tom Scud thing, it has drawn a lot of our focus. It could be a Scum ploy. Even though I can delay the end of Day countdown if we think we need more time I am reluctant to do that - I have picked a time that suits most people, and Day 1 is really boring in most games. But in my opinion, peeker is way off base here. I get what he is saying, but I do not agree with it. As I said before, what Tom Scud said was something that is said every Mafia game, and as far as I can see it was merely a statement of what is obvious and logical - there may or may not be 3rd parties here.
Doesn’t mean he is a 3rd party with PIS, does not mean he is a 3rd party declaring that there is no 3rd party. He raises the possibility.
Unofficial Vote on peeker, for a prolonged campaign based on tortured reasoning.
I have to agree, Peeker is normally better at picking scum than this (in his own hard to understand way), but this looks like he is either trying to start a bandwagon, or as AllWalker suggests, a ploy to give Tom Scud town cred.
I tend to think it is the former, but even if it is the latter it still would tend to indicate that Peeker is scum.
On that basis I;
Vote: peekercpa
I am going to take this opportunity to say
I am town aligned
I am also watching the discussion around peeker. I am not going to change my vote just yet, jpei has yet to respond to the votes on him, and as that was the reason for the vote it’s staying there for now.
I am quite surprised by Chronos’ vote i=on me for a partial claim, particularly considering the rest of you guys appear to understand trhe situation I have been left in.
This is moving extremely fast and is hard to keep up. Should be easier now that I’ve been killed in the other game!
I know it’s early and it’s harder to find voting reasons but I think that a couple of the people voted for have been hard done by.
Jpei: New player and (from my view) a fair reason for not voting. Someone was going to get elected anyway, not voting didn’t hurt town as it’s the start (allegiances aren’t known and so he can’t vote for people he trusts yet or vote against potential scum). If he doesn’t know the players why should he be penalised for not throwing in a random vote?
OaOW: People were asking questions and they were kind of forced to admit they had a role. We don’t know what the role is and a full reveal may hurt town. Question for more experienced players: Are they more unlikely to be scum as the mods wouldn’t want to draw this much attention to scum at the start?
Unsure who to vote for myself yet.
I don’t see it adding a lot of noise, it can be dealt with very quickly by stating:
I am town aligned.
Prior to a mass claim, a hypothetical lie detector needs targets to work on.
@Drain Bead - what was Chronos’ other attempt at role fishing?
I don’t mind Chronos’ stance on OaOW’s soft claim, but I think his vote is unjustified given that town as a whole unjderstands OaOW is in a bit of a strange situation. I can see pros and cons to him claiming depending on what his role actually is. OaOW - If town is going to lose significant information in the event of your death then I think you should claim.
That was my read of Tom’s original post, I think Peeker is making a fuss over a whole load of nothing. I also noted that Boozy said he was considering following Peeker’s vote, but he’s been quiet since then.
On the face of it, it seem unlikely that the mods would give scum a role that draws attention to them in such a way. However, I wouldn’t make any assumptions about this. Judgements on game balance can only be made when we have a decent idea what the game setup actually is. Town sometimes get roles that penalise them, so why not scum?
just remember scum will do anything. the ignore “scum would never do that” meme is very wisely counseled.
Alka Seltzer (1): Boozy Squid
jpei (3): Normal Phase, OaOW, Fruedian
Tom Scud(1): peeker
One and Only(1): Chronos
Peeker(3): Tom Scud, Jimmy Chitwood, Gryff
Chronos(1): Drain Bead
@OAOW
I addressed a some points in post #320. What other concerns do you have?
@Freudian Slit
I’ve become a Rorschach test of sorts with no concensus on my reasoning in sight. While others have commented, no others have felt it merited a vote yet. You are, undoubtedly, aware of this. Under what circumstances would you remove your vote on me?
*While others after you have commented, none of them have felt that it merited a vote yet.
Yay weekend’s over. Time to actually pay attention to what I’ve been reading. Back in a bit, hopefully with something coherent.
Agreed. It’s probably reasonable to rule him out as a third party, since he’d have to have some kind of wacky-strong powers (or be a jester) to survive being outed to both town and scum.
This isn’t a question of “what would scum do?”, though, as much as “what would the mods do?” But I agree that OaOW could be either scum or town on the basis of what we know so far about his role.
The votes on jpei are dumb. Scum would never do that, blah blah, I know it’s not something you can rely on. But there’s sneaky smart moves, and there are dumb suicidal moves. Not voting in something that’s more or less meaningless is dumb for scum, lots of risk with little to gain.
Peeker, I’ve played with you before. You’re a better player than that. What Tom said was innocuous and the fact that you keep going on about it bothers me a whole lot. It feels like you’re trying to be the super aggressive guy. In this case, i think you’re trying to be the super aggressive scum.
Vote peeker
