Ah, Winston, our resident closet brown shirt Danish xenophobe finds another reason to push his anti-islamic agenda, using that semitic terrorist apologist Chris Doyle.
But wait, there’s more.
If you order now, Rune will gladly show up and say that any Swedish person is an Al-Qaida hugging terrorist lover, whowill stand in line to be executed for being born a Christian and not wearing a burkha.
Whatever.
So. This lame-ass rant is about a weak chinned Brit who wants to get some headlines by trolling about the Union Jack and getting CNN to headline a story about it? And why was this crack pot plan an item for your Pit rant?
Was it because you got a chance to spout off your ignorant xenophobia again?
Speaking of sensibilities … I thought that fighting during Ramadan would offend them. Yet there is now talk of an increase in Al Queda terrorism during their holiday.
Depends on the religious scholar, of course. There are those who belief that death on the battlefield during Ramadan grants the martyr exalted status in Paradise. Then there are the other religious scholars who say, in effect, “What the fuck are you smoking?”
[QUOTE=Rune]
Perhaps so. What about Arabs. Any native Arabs in England?[/quote
Yes, those Arabs who were born in the Britain are thus native to the area. Your OP is pretty much a rant along the lines of “Go back to where you came from if you don’t like it here!” Well, my point is that a fair number of the Muslims and Arabs currently in Britain…you may want to sit down for this…are actually from Britain!
Just ONCE I would like to hear a Muslim acknowledge that Muslim armies invaded Europe BEFORE any Crusader ever set foot on sacred Muslim lands. How do they think Spain came to be ruled by Muslims? Do they think Andalusia sent them an engraved invitation? Battle of Tours? Charles Martel? Ring a bell, anybody? And these invasions were in response to no “Western aggression” whatsoever, unless it was “aggressive” to be Christian.
And as someone upthread already pointed out, Muslim armies kept on invading Europe for centuries after the Crusades ended. I know of no color or creed that has a monopoly on, or is lacking in, “unprovoked aggression”. There needs to be a statute of limitations on historical grievances.
Then they had a much bloodier rematch in 1807: Britain 1600 {mostly Danish civilians}, Denmark 259. However, both actions were justifiable retribution for what the Vikings had done a thousand years before. Pillage our monasteries, will yer? Here’s yer bloody Danegeld: stand still while I gelds yer!
{That, and the in the Franco-Russian Treaty of Tilsit, the Russkies generously gave the Danish fleet to the Frogs - although why the Russians thought they were entitled to give Danish ships away still eludes me - to replace the one they had lost at Trafalgar, and the Brits were keen to nick them first.}
Actually, I would love to see some evidence that the purported Christians (or, at least, those descended from European Christians) had much of a grasp of history before they wandered out to make this sort of claim.
The invasion of Spain was the natural backlash of the European invasion of North Africa from Spain in the period just previous, as the Europeans (notably Vandals and the Visigoths who “encouraged” them to leave Iberia) overextended themselves across North Africa. It just happened that the groups who then rolled up the failed Euroean invasions happened to have been converted to Islam by the time they reutrned the favor, otherwise it would likely have been a Christian or pagan (depending on which North African group consolidated the most power) invasion of Iberia. The thrust into France was nothing more than a reconassance in force that never had a hope of actually establishing a foothold north of the Pyrenees, regardless how brave Charles Martel may have been.
In the East, the situation was repeated with the aged and collapsing Byzantine Empire drawing the newly emergent Turks up into Europe by the simple process of power vacuum. And, again, while the Turks happened to be Muslim, their designs on Southeast Europe were prompted by the normal imperial desire for power and something similar would have probably occurred had Islam never arisen.
In contrast, the Crusades were explicitly called as religious wars, not simple wars of conquest. (Clearly, Islam was a uniting force among a number of squabbling groups who (sort of) united to conquer North Africa and Iberia in the seventh century. Similarly, Muslim/Christian antipathy was a rallying cry for the Turkish forces who marched through the Balkans. But the notion that religion was at the base of all those wars is a European concept that is not actually supported by the facts.)
(The idea that the British and Swiss flags or Piglet are, in some way, insulting to Muslims is stupid. I just hate to see “our side” behave as ignorantly as “their side.”)
Darn you ryobserver, I was also going to cite the Battle of Tours.
Muslims are distressed over a petty 1,000 year old squabble? The Battle of Tours was an instance of Islamic invasion occurrring 1,273 years ago. Being of French ancestry, it has bothered me ever since. How many of my ancestors were needlessly killed? Because of this egregious episode of aggression, I want flags of all Islamic nations changed in the event that I find the design, colors, fabric, shape, etc offensive to my delicate sensibilities.
(Yes tomndebb, I read your posting. My posting is being done with tongue planted firmly in cheek. No doubt someone did something to somebody else even befpre the time period you mentioned and maybe some other injustice occurred before* that*, etc)
Ahh. Good to see you’re still here Gasbag. You never know when a one party Swedish socialist fed on state propaganda might come in handy. And I see you’ve kept your cute little Swedish Nazi references polished and sharp. Good.
No. An Arab is a man born in an Arab country. An Englishman is a man born in England. And it does very much sound like Chris Doyle, going by the name alone, has no historic roots to any Arab country.
No. My main problem is with those spineless bastards in the west who’ll give in to the slightest pressure from small extremists groups and bend over backwards trying not to insult Muslims. Like Tate Gallery’s recent pro-active censure of the artist John Latham, fearing his works might insult Muslims (not Christians or Jews mind you) where even the Muslim Council of Britain went “huh?”
As far as those who immigrated her from somewhere. If they don’t like fundamental things about the country or find the people and culture there so disgusting and awful. Yeah they can sod off.
It’s all history but, the Arab / Moorish invasion of Spain came centuries after the Vandal conquest of Roman North Africa, as well as centuries after (east) Roman re-conquest of North Africa. The Vandals weren’t defeated by the Romans because they had overextended themselves in North Africa, but because they were poorly organized and the Romans had a brilliant general. The Moors who later invaded Spain, were allies of the Vandals. The Arabs in North Africa didn’t just happened to be Muslims. If there hadn’t been an Islamic faith, there would have been no Arabs in North Africa, and Africa would have been a Roman province.
Christ, Rune. I joined in the laughter at Doyle’s silly comments, but if you want to use a definition of a word that is different from the one everyone else uses, please have the courtesy to notify the rest of the world in writing, in advance. Arab does not mean “a man born in an Arab country.”
Even if we accept that as true, “English” is a nationality and “Arab” is not. This is just lame. People can be British and Arab without even trying. In fact, I suspect that’s how most of them do it.
I did some Googling, and he does not appear to be an Arab. But I given his job, I suspect his knowlege of Muslim culture trumps ours.
Yeah well it doesn’t matter. Born and bred Tommies from Middlesex or from a tent south of Tikrit: you are a fool if you take offence at the cross in the English flag on account of the crusades or St. George for whatever or want to outlaw the Piglet. And you are a damn fool if you sell out on basic principles (that’s the censure, not the piglet) of western society on the pretence of not wanting to offend some silly individuals. And you are a goddamn fool if you think you have a right not to be offended on whatever quaint little hypersensitive ideas you might have, and have everybody else forced to conform to your ideas.
I don’t know how it is in England, but here we don’t use Arab-Danish like you might use African-American. We’d perhaps use 2.generation immigrant, but not Arab of someone born in Denmark.
