Screw the media double standard over Biden's "Garbage" gaffe

Never apologize for giving me an opportunity to laugh.

I’m worth something then.

I think you meant you’ll indeavor to emprove.

I’ve not actually seen Biden say what he said. I’m just going off the transcript. However, it reads to me as though he was calling Hinchcliffe garbage, not Trump supporters generally.

“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporter’s — his — his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable”

I know transcripts can sometimes be unintentionally misleading, but doesn’t the “— his — his demonization” part refer to Hinchcliffe, since he was the one doing the demonizing? Or am I missing something obvious?

Well apparently there is contention over the apostrophe.

All republicans are allowed to call all democrats garbage, but no democrats are allowed to call any republicans garbage.

This is just the way of the world. A truth that must be accepted by us all.

The joke on The Daily Show was that it’s grammar Nazis vs. actual Nazis.

They don’t call Democrats garbage, they call us the enemy within.

Sales of fainting couches are at levels not seen since Hillary’s deplorables comment. Cases of “the vapors” are at pandemic levels.

It’s also OK to call blue cities all kinds of names, and liberals as out-of-touch elitists, but you can never say anything bad about blue collar towns, small Midwestern towns, or working class people, or the common clay of the new West.

News outlets are reporting anecdotes of people turning Japanese at record levels.

It’s been said before on here, but it bears repeating; anyone who supports hateful language like that which was used in reference to the people of Puerto Rico on Sunday are the scum of the Earth. Hate like that has no place in this world, and definitely not in the oh-so-advanced year of 2024.

How anyone can still hold such a closed-minded view of a cohort of people is astounding. If a person’s cognitive dissonance is so great that they believe that another group of people is somehow “less than” they are, then fuck them and their lousy opinion.

I have an old friend who is full-on Cult Maga, and his response was to post “Even More Proud to Be MAGA” on Facebook.

I told him he misspelled “brainwashed.” I’m done pulling punches with these morons.

And you sure can’t point out that violent crime is higher in rural red state America than in blue states. Lazy narratives are what monetize eyeballs.

There’s always that implicit “* who’s not Donald Trump” caveat applied, unfortunately. Or maybe it’s a sitting President who’s not a total asshole caveat. I’m not sure.

I’m starting to think that for a lot of people, they think of politics much the same way they think of sports team support- win or lose, they support their team. And they support their team even if they have crazy players that make Ron Artest, Terrell Owens, and Mickey Mantle look like choir boys, and their coach does no wrong either.

It’s almost a tribal thing, and it’s certainly tied into their self-identification. I think we (everyone else) may be making a mistake by assuming that all of this is about policy or about the actual moral rectitude of the candidates, etc… It’s not; it’s about tribal identification I’m thinking. So they’re looking at it as a situation where it’s all good if they ultimately win.

And I’m not exactly defending them, but this also explains how you get otherwise reasonable and nice people who support Trump and the GOP- it’s like a sports game to them, and they have that same weird pride in rooting for a cruddy team (like Cubs fans had for years) that they have in being a Trump/GOP supporter. So to them, they’re not really engaging their brains about what this support actually means, or what they’re actually supporting, other than the most surface-level talking points that sound good to them- fewer illegals, less crime, and so forth.

You may be the last American to come to that realization

I don’t know… everyone I see pitching a fit on the internet about Trump supporters, racism, etc… hasn’t got the memo. That stuff is secondary; they don’t think of themselves as racist, etc… and may not be. They’re Trump supporters in the same way that they’re Fighting Irish fans, or Phillies fans or whatever.

It’s tribalism above all else.

Now, which tribe you join has everything to do with what they’re selling.

I think it is more of the media trying to create another Hillary “deplorables” controversy.

Paraphrasing a comment somewhere else:

We accept GOP can be lawless
We demand Dems must be flawless

MAGA doesn’t care that they are called garbage by the target of their daily inappropriate public rage. This is only an opportunity to ‘act upset’ like liberals do. People who don’t care about others as a rule believe anyone who does is faking it for attention or political points.

The GOP is now completely devoid of any constructive comprehensive ideology.
