Scroll Wheel Function, where did you go?

A little while back I reinstalled windows 98 and discovered i had a new function. I have a three button mouse and i found that when i would hit the middle button a small circular icon would appear with an up and down arrow. With the button held down and icon in place, moving the mouse up and down it would function as a scroll wheel. but as suddenly as it had came the function mysteriously dissapeared. How do i get it back w/o reinstalling windows?

Check in the control panel, click on mouse, and check the differnent tabs. One of them should be to set what the different buttons do.

thanks for the suggestion but that only recognises two buttons and doesnt even let me set that they do.

I am loving the fact that the first reply came from a Joey in a “Degrassi HIgh” thread

Does your computer list a mouse type? You should find a drop-down menu in the mouse section of control panel that lets you select the type of mouse you have. Select “wheel mouse”, “scroll mouse” or “intellimouse”, and try the button functions for each of these. You should be able to set the functions by selecting the button you want (maybe on a diagram?) and then clicking an option on a list.

I’d be a little more specific, but I’m not in Windows right now.

If you know the manufacturer of your mouse, go to their website and get the latest drivers for your OS.

If it’s a logitech, they have a mouse profiler (or something like that) program that comes with the drivers where you can set up all the special functions. I’d imagine other brands have the same thing, but I only have experience with logitech.
