Thanks! Hadn’t seen that. I’ve sent a PM.
I’ve been getting another ad that auto-scrolls my window to the top every time it plays. It’s some Sara Lee bread product, if that helps.
I’m logged in as a charter member but still seeing ads
Ever since this morning, accessing the boards as a guest (the default on my machine, although I am a member) results in each message board page taking a minute or more to load. This appears to have something to do with the ad server.
Once I log in as a member, the pages load normally.
Windows 10 machine, IE 11.
That’s odd. You’re paid up through 2019 and shouldn’t be seeing ads. Try:
-
Logging out, then logging back in again. If no improvement, then:
-
Log in from a different browser. If no improvement, then:
-
Reboot and log in from original browser.
Pls advise of results. Thanks.
Seems resolved - maybe a temporary glitch?
All fixed now, at home and at work. Thanks again.
Got redirected to this page while on Cafe Society:

Getting ad related hijacks telling me that my phone (chrome browser on android) is heavily infected or that I have won a prize! Happened in Elections and ATMB just in the last ten minutes or so.
Got an ad that locked up Chrome on Windows 7. It is a ‘Your computer is infected!!!’ scam.
The domain in the url it redirected to is:
system-alert-1s1sb11r.stream
The entire url is too long for me to type in. And I don’t feel like finding a place to post a screen shot.
See thisfor what showed up.
Slee
I am getting hijacked again. Android phone. Chrome browser.
I’m getting redirected to giftcardonlinesurvey . com so often that the board is nearly unusable on my android phone. I understand why we have to have ads, but do they really have to be such crummy ones?
That’s the URL of the pop up that takes over chrome when I try to open general questions. I have the sound on my phone turned off but this buzzes like crazy so probably does have sound. Doesn’t happen anywhere else online so I think it must be this site.
Another pop up offering a free phone, the kind that takes you away from the page you were on and you can’t get back from it. They’re not the kind of ads the SDMB intends to have, are they?
I’m also getting these, intermittently for a while but just now twice in a few minutes. A pop-up window over a new page purporting to say I’ve won a new iPad or something - I’m sure as hell not going to click the Accept button on that pop-up window, but it basically hijacks the browser because you can’t do anything except exit out of it, and kill the app.
I’m in an iPad running the Dolphin browser, if that matters.
Makes the site nearly unusable.
Got me again repeatedly just after I posted this, on both Dolphin and Safari. It’s not an iPad they say I’ve won, but a gift card. The entire browser is hijacked by the page, with a dialogue box over the top with a Cancel button to click. Yeah, I’m not clicking that.
It doesn’t make the site nearly unusable; it’s completely unusable. I can’t imagine the ad revenue is worth driving users away.
One of the domains that shows as doing this hijack is tiesearch.com. I have forgotten the other one - starts with ing, though, I remember that (ingmedia.com, or something similar).
I also get auto-scrolling video ads, as some people described earlier. When the video is playing, I cannot scroll away from it (nor can I pause or stop it), it just scrolls me back to where it is in the page (top or bottom), which makes the board completely unusable.
Using Google Chrome version 59 with Windows 7.
I don’t know if this has to do with ads or not but something at this site is making reading on my phone impossible. Every page I go to, once finished loading, will reload itself out of nowhere every few minutes, complete with rescrolling to wherever I was at in the thread. Either that or the page tries to reload and crashes causing me to have to have to reload the page anyway.
I just started noticing this in the past week or two. I suppose it could be an issue with WiFi I’m using work, though.
Yeah, here’s a problem…it’s a pain in the fucking ass. Similar to the above post, I’m on my PC and it insists on scrolling way up to the ad that wants to play, sound included. Never mind the fact that I’m reading 35 posts down or trying to post, myself.
I guess you’ll get your wish…ads go away with paid memberships, right?
