Yeah, you could say that. It got really painful when I couldn’t lock up my handcuffs or any second tier WRs. I figured I get Gronk this year for $40-45, and once the momentum started I got stubborn.
My team could be a juggernaut by week 5 if everyone stays healthy, but that’s an awfully big if. One injury and I’m dead meat.
Thanks for sending me the draft results, Kiros! It’s time for RNATB’s Anxiously Awaited Annual Assessments! Briefer than normal this year because of work-time constraints.
Jesus, that is an amazing backfield. Not exactly a lot of depth (though Ivory is about as good as backup RBs get), but three-deep, that’s astonishing. Unfortunately, your WRs look pretty terrible, perhaps unsurprisingly. Cooks should be a plug-and-play WR1, but you never know who is going to produce for the Saints in any given week. He drove me nuts last year when he disappeared for long stretches while Willie Snead caught everything. In fairness, you’ve sort of hedged by taking Fleener also. I don’t like Matthew much and I like his quarterback situation less. In hindsight, I think you’d have taken a $20 RB3 (Matt Jones?) and spent the extra money on a true WR1 (AJ Green, Mike Evans, etc.) Or a proper QB. Overall grade: C- because you can’t start four RBs.
Well, you’ve got two elite talents. Unfortunately, one will miss at least three games and the other is a big injury risk. There’s just nothing exciting about the rest of your roster. Handcuffing Rawls wasn’t a terrible idea, but Prosise isn’t the handcuff; he’s a third down back if you’re lucky. There is some upside further down your roster - Forsett, White, Benjamin, Sharpe and Booker could all return value, but overall this is a meh team. Overall grade: C.
You overpaid for WRs, so you’ve only got one and a half viable RBs. That’s a problem. Of course, you’ll get bonus RB3 production from Cam. I think you also overpaid for your backup QB; let’s face it, if Cam goes down you’re sunk. Gates was a great pick, but considering his age and injury history, I’d want someone to platoon with him. Overall grade: C-.
Another team which went cheap on RBs. I sort of get it when you only have to start one, but even in full PPR RBs have a much higher floor than receivers and I’d always prefer to fill my flex spots with an RB of equal talent. You also spent a lot of money on backup WRs that you hardly need when you have Nuk-Alshon-Hilton as your top three. Virgin Green was a sneaky pick that might save your team. Overall grade: B-.
I didn’t like it during the draft, but I kind of love this team now. There’s not a wasted dollar here, even though there are really no elite-level players outside Robinson (and Rodgers, if last year was an aberration). Overall grade: B+.
I am going to assume you went AFK for the later part of the draft since you have a couple of guys who aren’t on an NFL roster. There are a lot of Giants shares on this team, which is a bit worrying considering how awful they looked in preseason. In fairness, Jennings is your third RB and you got him for a ridiculously low price. The problem is that you only have three RBs in total (the Broncos cut Hillman). One of those WR3 types (Shepard, Jackson, Sanders) should really have been an RB. Beckham-Baldwin has the potential to be a spectacular one-two punch, but I don’t care for any of your third options given how much you spent on them as a group. There are also too many question marks about what sort of offense Seattle runs for me to approve of spending a lot on Wilson. Overall grade: C.
Hey, guy. You’re charming, handsome and talented. But your team isn’t as good as it could have been. Seriously, I also didn’t spend enough on RBs, but I got two that will start every week, regardless of matchup, and three more that I could start every week without hoping for injuries. That’s important. I also have a fairly awesome cast of bargain-basement WRs to fill in around Mike Evans, though drafting Josh Gordon made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. I don’t understand why people aren’t paying for D-Jax; he was on pace for about 1000/8 last year before being injured, and he’s put on muscle and is in a contract year. The more I look at this roster, the more I like it, and the sadder I get that I didn’t target similar guys in the Big League draft. Taking Eifert with a reasonable platoon option for the early weeks was a smart move. Overall grade (and anyone who’s read my reviews before knows I don’t grade my own drafts highly): A.
I’m not sure what to make of this draft. There are big names here at some very reasonable prices, but every one of them has an asterisk. Gurley: 9 man fronts. Edelman/Allen: injury. Abdullah: fumbles, role. Demaryius: no QB. Maclin: well, no question there. He’s practically guaranteed to produce 1000/8. Kelce: playing time. Bortles: game flow, loss of volume. Spencer Ware was a brilliant move and I hate you for stealing him from me, but I would be worried if he was my third RB option for a whole season, especially since we haven’t seen anything from Abdullah yet. I would like this team a lot more if D-Thomas wasn’t your #1 WR (and yes, Beef, I know he was actually very productive last year). Overall grade: A-.
This is exactly the sort of superstars-plus-fill-ins-with-upside approach I take in the Big League. I’m not sure it works here, though. Your RB2 should be better than Duke Johnson unless you have an awful lot of them, and you don’t. Overall grade: C-.
I am not particularly enthused about any Dallas receiver right now, and you have two of them. You also have what looks like the oldest starting roster in history, and you skimped on RBs like nearly everyone else. There’s some promise here, but I feel like not enough of your fliers will pan out to work. Overall grade: D.
My first thought here was, “this is more like it,” but then I looked closer. Bit thin in terms of RB depth, but at least Crowell will actually get carries in the games where you need him. I think you overpaid a bit for Nelson in light of the injury concerns, and Devante Parker was a wasted pick, which leaves you with one WR if Nelson goes down. You were lucky to get McKinnon given that you seem to have punted the second half of the draft. Overall grade: C-.
Well, your RBs aren’t ideal, but at least there are a lot of them. If Gordon pans out, I’d be very comfortable pairing him with Freeman (especially since you handcuffed the latter). Michael could be a league-winning pick. Unfortunately, the RB depth and big TE money (which as a dynasty Reed owner I would not have parted with) leaves you weak at WR. Watkins is great but probably won’t play a whole season, Fitzgerald is showing his age, and Landry relies on volume that might not be there for him this year. Still, you’ve got Brady, and you did your homework on picking the guy with the easiest schedule while he’s out. I doff my cap to you on that. Overall grade: B+.
I gotta say, 3 weeks in, that despite my 1-2 record, I have a really good team. Melvin Gordon with a full workload, a finally-blooming Christine Michael, and both halves of the Atlanta backfield. Stafford doing just fine and Brady waiting in the wings.
That said, I’d like to try to upgrade my WR’s, to get a top-end guy. Fitz and Landry are both nice options for me, but I’d really like somebody in the Evans-Marvin Jones-Kelvin Benjamin mold. I’ll trade basically anybody for one.
Also, I’ll take essentially any offer for Sammy Watkins.
I’m going to assume you guys agreed to the idea of the trade going through today, since that’s typical procedure, just to be clear. If not, speak up Frosted.
Anyway, it’s through and thanks for the announcement.
I can’t believe the comeback I made tonight. I wasn’t even paying attention. I was projected to score like 35 fewer points than Overly Sentimental. I had Jordan Howard come through for 29.2 points. I picked up Cordarelle Pattern to replace Cameron Meredith and since I only won by .69 points, that decision made the win. The Vikings underperformed and their defense only scored 4.
Rough week for Overly Sentimental - already 3-4, he scored the second highest points in this league this week and lost by less than a point.
The trade deadline is one setting yahoo doesn’t retain from year to year when you renew the league. Our rule has been to extend the trade deadline as long as yahoo allows, which is 2 weeks from now. I forgot to make that setting in the beginning of the year, so I am now. The earlier trade deadline is mostly to protect against shenanigans in yahoo public leagues - since no one is going to be doing anything funky I see no reason why we shouldn’t extend it out further.
