I agree. I’d like to keep things going but, at the same, time don’t want it to be just another “set it and forget it” league. I’m down for whatever. I like the superflex idea.
Did any of you read Matthew Berry’s (http://www.espn.com/fantasy/football/story/_/page/TMRlovehate181011/fantasy-football-picks-sleepers-busts-week-6) article this week describing the “Vampire” league? Interesting premise. Would certainly shake things up a bit.
That does sound interesting.
One point regarding the logistics of it: Because yahoo requires an even number of players for a live draft, the vampire would participate in the draft but only choose the scrubbiest of scrubs that nobody would actually draft. Guys like rookies drafted in the 7th round. Pre-rankings should be sufficient that the vampire wouldn’t even have to show up at the draft.
Yeah, the logistics (and rules) would have to be hammered out but it did sound pretty cool. Certainly a novel approach to the game and, as he points out in the article, a whole nother level of strategy.
In my big money IRL league, we could have had something close to this. We travel to a new city each year for the live draft (party) and we’re not very forgiving of people not showing up, normally this means you forfeit your spot in the league and we replace you. This year a guy had his kids 1st birthday party (we gave him a pass last year for he birth) and instead of replacing him we had another friend who knows nothing about sports and happened to be in our draft city that weekend do his draft. The results were somewhat hilarious, all his draft picks had a name that could be a juvenile joke. His 1st and 2nd round picks we Jake Butt and Nick Chubb…things devolved from there and he ended up with a lot of Johnsons on his team.
Now we had normal waiver wire rules and obviously teams he matched up against started their best players. It’s also a 12 team league and due to some odd roster rules that mandate backups at every position, our waiver wire is actually probably kinda similar to what a vampire leagues would look like. Here’s what would have happened in our league.
Week 1, he lost in a closer game than he should have. His RBs at this point were Wilkins, Powell, Kerryon Johnson and Duke Johnson. His top point getter was Big Ben at a dismal 11.
In Week 2, he squeaked out his only win 93-92. He also probably would have been starting Breida for his one monster game, making that an easy win. He almost certainly would have swapped Josh Doctson for Julio Jones, his team just got a lot better.
In Week 3 he lost a close one, 96-91. But with Julio Jones, that flips to a win for sure since Doctson put up a 0 and Jones had 10. He would have had a choice of swapping Powell (or Brieda if he’d started him instead) for one of Howard, Hunt or Lynch or Kelvin Benjamin for Tyreek Hill. His depth is better at RB than at WR so I’d probably take Hill here.
In Week 4 he lost by 22, but Hill and Julio combined for 30 points. Still, he’d have benched Benjamin and Fuller (13 points) and still come up just short.
In Week 5 he lost by 29 (91-60, he actually has had quite a bit of schedule luck) and Breida, Hill and Julio wouldn’t have made the difference.
This week, he’s leading 68-61 and with the Packers D left to go against Kittle, I’ll call that a W. Big weeks from Julio and Hill would make it almost certain and he’s got the choice to steal either David Johnson, Shady McCoy, Andrew Luck, AJ Green or Jarvis Landry. Safe bet he swaps Duke Johnson for David Johnson and now he’s got a good, but not terrifying team after 6 weeks.
He has a gaping hole at TE and at QB he’s dependent on Big Ben/Bortles every week, but he’s got a core 4 of Tyreek, Julio, DJ and Kerryon Johnson. He’s also 3-3 and facing a team next week with Rodgers and Antonio Brown on a bye and 2 decent TEs to pick from if he wins again. I’d say he’s certainly a playoff contender and no one’s starting an elite QB or RB against him from here on in.
I’d love to do a vampire league, and would absolutely throw my name in the hat to be the vampire. Sounds like a ton of fun.
That is the best idea I’ve ever heard, except I feel like there should be two vampires.
I could be convinced to give a vampire league a try.

If you play in multiple FF leagues here on the SDMB, be sure to check out the aggregate rankings in [post=21237990]this thread[/post].
Well, the coach cost his team a win this week.
If you’d started Royce Freeman over MGIII you’d still have lost. You would have won had you started Burton over Reed, but I don’t think that was a bad call given that we still don’t really know anything about Chicago’s offense.
When I made that post, I was trailing by ~9.5 and Freeman scored 9.7. Not sure what changed, maybe some of Ito’s points hadn’t posted yet.
But I almost definitely would have started Burton had I given my lineup half a thought, Reed’s been really disappointing and Burton’s getting a lot of targets and going against a TERRIBLE Pats D.
I decided to go back to sleep instead of setting my lineup so I missed the Gordon news and then I just checked out for the rest of the day. Wasted that Broncos D performance.

I had a bunch of guys put up 20+ point games in the early games, so it looked like it was going to be one of those weeks where I started all the wrong people, but then all the ones I started put up big games anyway, so it was just a big week for my team. I’ll win as long as Edelman doesn’t score more than 18 points. Pretty big game between two of the 3 5-2 teams, may end up deciding the first round byes.
Marlon Mack looking like a great waiver pickup. I drafted the Jacksonville defense as what should’ve been the most reliable defense but I guess they’re melting down over there.
Whew. I held on for a 1.04 point victory.

Most of the time the potential points scored rank is pretty close to the actual points scored rank, but I’m doing a pretty bad job picking my starters this year - I’m #1 in potential but #6 in actual scoring. That’s a pretty big gap.
I wonder if it has to do with only playing with 10 teams - that leaves a lot of talent on the bench. In leagues with more teams, guys that we all have stashed on the bench are regular starters.
