It means I jump all the way up to 11th place in the Waiver pool! WooHoo!
Also, as a GIANTS fan third only to Hal Briston and Ellis Dee, I think the defense played quite a bit over their heads, and were greatly aided by the absence of Westbrook. Somewhere between 97 points in 10 quarters and 3 points in 6 quarters lies the truth. Let’s hope it’s closer to the latter than the former.
And don’t forget the absence of William Thomas, which might be more significant. Since, you know, he would have been blocking Osi Umenyiora, who had like 38 sacks. Not to mention how idiotic the playcalling was. Let’s see, you’re having problems protecting your QB (who has limited mobility right now anyway) and you call a… double reverse? Really? This team is driving me crazy.
It would be as if no one else put a claim in for him except you, and since you would successfully win the waiver claim, you would move to last place in the waiver priority list, moving everyone who was behind you up by one place.
Anyway, some people jumped the gun again on free agents. Remember that whole non-locking waiver wire thing we’re doing to prevent closest-to-the-computer syndrome?
Ok, here’s what I’m going to do.
Drop Marty Booker from Frosted Lightning’s roster and replace him with Rudi Johnson. He’ll then go to the back of the waiver priority.
Revert all free agent moves made today. If you have any questions about the waiver system, feel free to ask.
Treat free agent pickups as waiver claims. As stated in the commissioner’s note, I’m going to treat your desire to pick these players up as free agents as waiver claims. If you DO NOT want me to do this, please say so here, or in a private message, or in an e-mail.
E-mail me/PM me any other claims, then I will process waivers as usual tonight.
I’m not in any SDMB league, but am in a 10 person league with some friends of mine. For Sunday’s upcoming games, I am undecided about who to play as QB.
I have to choose between Derek Anderson, Drew Brees, and Eli.
Do you expect it to be a close game? I would go with Eli Manning. Strangely, I see him as the safest pick here.
Are you significantly behind and need to take a risk to win? I would try Anderson.
Anderson is going to be very boom or bust. He’s probably either going to have a 3 TD day, or a 3 int day. The Browns will either get completely smoked by the Pats, or surprise everyone with a shootout.
Ever notice how close the matchups in the random pairings often are?
We have matchups with projected scores of
110.33 vs 105.70
79.32 vs 74.93
82.67 vs 84.23
Even the uneven ones are a 10 point difference.
It often seems to work this way. But we could just as easily have 110.33 vs 79.32 and 105.70 vs 74.93… since the schedule is all preset early on.
I don’t think there’s a chance Derek Anderson throws for 3 TD. If Cincinnati couldn’t get into a shootout with the Pats, the Browns most definitely won’t. Especially not on the road. Anderson doesn’t have a decent chance, nor a high upside. I would avoid him completely.
Brees hasn’t done anything to prove he is worthy of a start. Trust me, I know this. Even if he does throw for five TDs, it’s too big of a risk to start him. Eli is the pick here, especially against a terrible Jets pass defense.
And I agree that Anderson is more likely to throw a lot of picks than TDs, but the Cleveland offense has been full of surprises. Who’d have thought they’d be leading the league in the number of 20+ yard plays? The offense can be explosive, but it’s inconsistent and sometimes implodes. It’s capable of having big fluke days. Did you think the Ravens would be down 26-3 last week?
But I agree, under normal circumstances go with Manning.
This near 3-1 start thing is invigorating the unrealistic homer part of me. I realize that there’s about a 75% chance New England soundly stomps us, and maybe another 15% that they win a close one. But in a season of surprises so far, I’m starting to get a little goofy again.
When you look at the projected score for the rest of the season, Vince Young is expected to be the 4th highest scoring QB, one spot above Manning. Interesting. I wonder what they’re projecting that from, exactly. They project (remaining) 2200 more passing yards, 12 TDs, 11 ints, 700 rushing yards, and 5 rushing TDs. Doesn’t seem too unreasonable.
Jon Kitna is the #3 projected QB, so I have #3 and #4. Anyone interested in trading for either? I’ve been pleasantly surprised at Kitna as an 8th or 9th round pick. He scores even better in regular leagues without our efficiency punishments.
Derrick Anderson is the 28th projected QB from here on out, despite being 7th in actual score.
Tomlinson is expected to be the top scoring RB from here on out. I’m not sure. I expect him to have better production, but that team might implode. Joseph Addai has a shot at being #1.
Edgerrin James is projected 7th. I wanted to get him on my hands this year - I knew that offense would have a better running game in general.
How do you guys select a kicker? Do you want to pick the kicker for the most prolific offense, figuring he’ll get the most scoring chances? A kicker that’s particularly skilled at kicking? Has a schedule with a lot of indoor or warm weather games? A kicker for a shakey offense where they’ll move the ball well enough to get into field goal range, but often stall out and not get TDs?
The ideal kicker is playing indoors for a team with a good offense yardage-wise but who struggle in the red zone. Lawrence Tynes of the Giants would be ideal except that the Meadowlands is the bane of kickers everywhere.
Because of that, Coughlin quickly and easily loses faith in the kicker and either goes for it on 4th & short or pooch punts with Feagles / Tyree.
For the most part, kickers are a crapshoot and the ones who aren’t are usually on someone else’s roster. (I assume we’re talking about a standard league and not the salary cap one.)
When it comes to a bye week or I just feel the need for change, I just go to espn or some other site and view their weekly rankings and pick up the highest rated kicker for the week.
I don’t have the time or energy to analyze free agent kicker matchups when rolling a dice could be just as effective.
I like a skilled guy who plays for a team with a stall-out offense. I particularly like kickers with strong legs who might pick up some bonus points for me in one game if Im lucky. When it comes down to it, however, I don’t really care that much though.
You beat me to Young by about an hour. Even worse since I had him anyway and stupidly dropped him.
I had a hunch that Shanahan was going to start being stupid with Henry and share his carries with Young and Bell. I acted on the hunch once Henry started getting hurt (knowing his injury history). Looks like I dodged a bullet there. Now only if I could pick up free agents without someone taking them an hour before me.
I hate when your chance to win a week comes down to a gametime decision that you have no control over. I can’t replace Addai with his backup, because he might play… which leaves me… Jamal Lewis @NE (horrible matchup) or… Devery Henderson.
Yeah…
I’m going against the #1 ranked team in both my leagues this week. I need everything I can get.
The Browns are on broadcast TV here in Vegas for the first time in a while. I guess the national audience wants to see 6 Moss TDs?
And I have both Addai and Kenton on my roster, and which one is the starter won’t be clear until less than an hour to go, and it’s a 4pm eastern game…
I think I might just have to stay home to watch the game.
I’m going to end up getting screwed on the Addai/Kenton thing anyway. If I start Addai, he’ll be hurt and sit out. If I start Kenton, he’ll get 2 carries for 9 yards while Addai, after resting, will be healed enough to go for 120 and 2 TDs. My only other option is starting Lewis vs NE and… yeah.
