SDMB All-Pro Fantasy Football League

You’re not the only one with last minute decisions. I’m in 3 other leagues and I’ve got a last minute decision in each one.

[ul]
[li]I’ve got Addai starting and if he’s hurt I have to plug in McGahee.[/li][li]I’ve got Gore starting and Morris on the bench. If Maroney is out, I’m going to play Morris. I’m not thrilled with Gore this week.[/li][li]This sort of resolved itself yesterday when I found out Walker was out but I need to figure out if I should start Darrell Jackson (which I don’t want to do) or I could drop him for Shaun McDonald.[/li][/ul]

Plus we’re having our Thanksgiving (Canada, eh?) lunch today so I’ve got to find some way to pull myself away from that to get this done.

Would anyone have guessed that Kitna would’ve sucked THAT badly?

I started him in both leagues, too.

On the plus side, Randy Moss was finally shut down… relatively speaking… 46 yards, no TDs. I was amazed with that one, quite frankly, because our abused rookie, Eric Wright, had man coverage on Moss most of the game. I thought it was going to be a disaster, but then it ended up working pretty well.

Great day for EsotericEnigma’s trade with me… Fitzgerald finally got a TD along with 130ish yards and Ben Watson went over 100 with 2 TDs.

And Moss was starting against you in that improbably mediocre performance. That’s extremely fortunate.

Yeah… that was fantastic, but overall this week was a bit of a downer again. A couple of my choices worked, but the ones that didn’t, really bombed. REALLY bombed. It makes me physically ill that the Rams somehow managed 31 points against Arizona. Not sure that can be reasonably explained. And by scoring that last second TD and 2 pt conversion, cost me my parley bet by a half point. I think I’m 0-6 on parley bets by a combined 5 total points. Pass the scotch.

It’s looking like my game will be coming down to Barber III on Monday night. I almost started him in the salary cap league because he’s a mortal lock for 100 yards and 1-2 TDs. Pass the scotch… pass the whole bottle actually.

Somewhat mixed, Moss is starting for me in another league. But I’ll take it.

That was my survival pool game this week, picked Ari. Had me nervous.

Ben Watson is catching a whole lot of TDs this year. Perhaps I should’ve held out for more for him… he’s more than a throw-in.

I came over to my computer to switch out Addai and Kenton Keith… and then I forgot about the salary cap league. At about 4:05 eastern I remember, come to the computer, and… too late. Addai will put up a big 0 in both of my salary cap leagues. Bugs me cause I’m like 97% percentile and this will drop me significantly.

That was a tough choice for me. Do I drop Addai and lose my $4 value on him for the rest of the season, but gain stats for today? Or do I keep him and take the 0 and hold place with everyone else (who didn’t switch him out)? I eventually chose to switch him out and try to make up the ground on everyone who had him but didn’t sell him. Of the four players I was going to choose instead, 3 got a touchdown or more. 1 did not. Guess which one I selected?

That’s not fair though, as I took Morris and he had a good day anyway.

Had I kept Brown instead of stupidly out-thinking myself, I would have a record high score this week, I think.

I would’ve probably kept Addai for one week out, but he’s got an injury week and a bye week in a row - and 2 weeks of 0 from an RB slot wasn’t worth the $3.50.

Unfortunately, I now have a tricky decision about next week, having already blown this one.

On another note, SD has apparently decided to stop sucking. I appreciate that they’ve decided to stop letting Tomlinson run wild. He had like 130 combined yards in the first half, and I was thinking “great… he has to return to form during the week I play him” but fortunately he hasn’t hit the end zone or put up many points in a while.

My matches should come down to the Sunday/Monday night games, which should be fun. It’s unfortunate that I could be sitting pretty if Kitna puts up a respectable performance.

Edit: Oh, what the hell? Michael Turner in the game, 143 yards on 8 carries? Was Tomlinson hurt?

Apparently Tony Romo decided to celebrate Halloween a little early and went to Buffalo tonight disguised as Rex Grossman. The yards were there, but FIVE interceptions and a fumble lost?!?!?! You would have thought that was the Baltimore defense out there tonight. Congrats to The Opposites for handing me my ass.

Last week’s top scores (I forgot):

Exploding Pancakes 136.87
The Gridbirds 135.94
Court Jesters 87.02
Tazmanian Devils 86.97

Pretty big gap there.

This week’s top scores:
The Opposites 118.35
Exploding Pancakes 111.48
Quentin’s JAMmers 104.75
Frosted_Lightning 89.00

Top overall scores.

The format is… sorted by total points.

Yahoo Rank, team name, record, total points, draft position, total score relative to draft position.

To explain, I listed the scores like this last year and Chitwood made a good case that draft order/performance relative to it wasn’t very meaningful. So with that said, I’m not trying to list it as an evaluation of relative performances, but simply because it’s an interesting stat to me. Read it however you wish.

1. The Gridbirds 4-1 606.30	1	-
2. The Opposites 4-1 555.11	10	+8
4. Exploding Pancakes 3-2 553.41	7	+4
5. Tazmanian Devils 3-2 543.73	6	+2
6. Frosted_Lightning 3-2 434.07	9	+4
9. Isotopes 1-4 417.32	11	+5
10. Court Jesters 1-4 401.03	3	-4
7. The Concussions 3-2 386.25	4	-4
3. Quentin's JAMmers 4-1 384.22	8	-1
8. New York Fanboys 2-3 374.42	12	+2
11. chitwood 1-4 366.36	2	-9
12. No Use For A Name 1-4 361.09	5	-7

I was really glad to have finally gotten a win that I had earned legitimately. It felt good to finally make the top four scores list, even if I got no help from my QB or RB positions. Maybe once this season I’ll have a week where all my starters actually perform moderately well. But, I leapfrogged three teams on the overall scores standings, and I’m moving up in our Salary Cap and Picks leagues. Looking better!

Sorry about the mixup with the No Use For A Name stuff this week. He expected me to add the players to his roster, then later noticed I didn’t, and so he added them at a time that coincidentally was during our normal waiver period. Sorry about that.

To streamline the whole process, I propose, barring objection:
I’m going to establish a new rule starting next week (not today) - you have 24 hours (till midnight EST wednesday night/thursday morning) to pick up your won players. At that time, all players will be free agents and claims will be void.

If you have any doubt you’ll be around during this 24 hours, just tell me in your waiver claim who you want to drop to make room for the new players (if necesary) and I’ll take care of it.

So to clarify, when you write me with a waiver claim, ideally include how many players you’re willing to take onto your team, so that I don’t award you more players than you’re willing to take. You can make it conditional, like I said in a previous post… just explain what you want.

If you need me to add the players to your roster, tell me that, along with who to drop to make room.

If you don’t ask me to do that, you’ll have 24 hours after free agency begins to claim your won players. If you don’t, they become free agents available to anyone.

Rosters that could use adjustment:

No Use For A Name
The Concussions
Isotopes

Yet again I’ll get almost no points from the QB position since Vince Young was injured early.

But my 2 receivers combined for 212 yards and 5 touchdowns, so I’m feeling pretty good.

Somehow Miami managed to run their entire offense through Ronnie Brown, but didn’t manage to get him one of their many touchdowns, though.

Jason Wright didn’t do as well as I expected, but he was decent. A lot of yards went to RBBC with Harrison.

As of right now, I could have started JUST Adrian Peterson and LT and come away with the win. 96 points out of two players is just INSANE.

Yeah, great.

I have had one productive game from my QB this season. And by productive, I mean more than 10 points total from the position. ONE TIME!

I benched my starter and picked up Warner, who has been great all season. What happens? Warner is hurt on the third play, leaves the game for good, and my benched QB improbably has his best game of the season against arguably the best defense he’s faced this season. None of it makes any sense. There is only one hard rule about fantasy sports: It’s never improbable in my favor.

Slapped around to a 35 point loss to another 1-4 team. Ouch. Just call me Mangini. The only thing worse than my fantasy picks are my pick 'em picks. At least Henry has a few more weeks before possible suspension.

Last year I cruised to victory on the strength of the Colts offense.

This year, the Mighty Cleveland Browns.

Top 5 PPG.

Unfortunately, despite my rampant homerism, I somehow failed to pick up Derrick Anderson, and he’s the third highest scoring FF QB. If I had gotten him, I could be starting mostly Browns and kicking ass. Raise your hand if you thought that was possible at the beginning of the year.

Some people commented that Winslow was a good TE in this format because of the PPR, but remarkably, Winslow has 41 fewer yards than Gates, but… on 14 fewer receptions. Winslow is actually at a disadvantage in that sense because of the high yards per catch (17.4 for a TE, nice) he’s putting up.

Edwards is a stud, just like I predicted him to be. Glad he wasn’t on anyone else’s radar.

Ronnie Brown is a stud, just like no one predicted him to be. Woo.

I drafted Miami, and their fantasy defensive score for the year? -12. Wow. No other team is even all that close to being negative.

The only good Monday night matchup tonight is Frosted Lightning and 111.56 vs The Concussions with 105.90 and Alge Crumpler.

He was definitely on mine, but I thought I could get him for cheap. If I remember correctly, you snagged him right around when I was starting to think about grabbing him. I just waited too long. Great catch there.

I tried really, really hard to get Ronnie Brown from you, you just wouldn’t bite. I absolutely knew this was going to happen and I kick myself every Sunday for not biting the bullet and grabbing him ahead of Fitzgerald, which I’m sure you admit I could have done. It’s been that kind of year for me, aside from Dayne, my picks haven’t worked out in any stretch or consideration, EXCEPT after I’ve given up on them.

I’m not so sure. Trading away Brown would’ve made my RB depth really thin, so I wasn’t anxious to do it for a deal that didn’t bring in another RB. The reason I was willing to let Fitz go was ultimately because I thought Braylon and Housh would be studs and I’d end up sitting Fitz a lot anyway.

I feel like Court Jesters read my mind because I was just thinking about what to do for week 10 when Brady and Schaub are on Bye. This trade should prove helpful.
