Glad I could help. When I drafted, I took into account bye-weeks, but didn’t pay attention when swapping out Leinart, so I ended up with both QBs on a bye this week. I was afraid I’d have to pick up Tim Hassleback off of waivers!
Wow, big trade proposed.
Quentin’s JAMmers gives
Larry Fitzgerald
Larry Johnson
Jay Cutler
Roddy White
Isotopes
Roy Williams
Marion Barber III
Laurence Maroney
Marc Bulger
Care to give your thoughts on it? Not that there’s anything wrong with it, it’d just be cool to hear the thought process on each side.
It strikes me somewhat favorable to EsotericEnignma.
Williams and Fitz pretty much cancel out, although Williams will probably end up being better. He’s already used his bye, and Fitz’s numbers will come down once Boldin is back.
Cutler over Bulger is clearly an upgrade at this point.
LJ and Roddy white for Barber III and Maroney strongly favors Barber/Maroney IMO. LJ is starting to reawaken, and that’s good, but Barber III has been fairly consistently productive in a great offense, and Maroney is going to be pushed back into the lineup and fed most of the duties given the situation there.
Good job working out a trade though (and a big one) - I’d like to see our league more active in such things.
No one can accuse me of being too timid in a fantasy league! I’m surprised if I don’t end the season with the most waiver moves and trades.
I would never make a trade if I didn’t think I was getting the better end of the deal, that much is obvious. But I try, really I do, to always offer something of value, and in this case, I think I definitely gave up value. My benchmark for a trade is I ask myself if I would accept the deal from both perspectives. Honestly, I would.
The most difficult part was giving up Johnson. When he’s going (and he is right now) he’s among the best in the league. He also has most likely the single best playoff matchup in the league for a star RB. I actually traded for him because he could single-handedly send me from a playoff berth to a championship. Fitzgerald has been great lately (with Boldin out) so he’s obviously got some value, too.
Here’s how I see this. My team SHOULD be 1-5, there is no legitimate reason I’m 4-2 except for really good luck early (though not from my own players). So, I’m basically playing with house money right now, and should my luck run out (and this last week was a great example of how my luck typically works-- thanks Kurt Warner) I need to make sure I have a team I can win a championship with. So I went for the homerun trade.
There is no reason that right now, as of this moment, you can say I got equal or better value in return. Maroney is hurt and doesn’t seem ready to come back within the next week or two, Barber has been horrendous lately, and Bulger is hurt and when healthy, not very good this season. Should they all miraculously get healthy and play to their level, I think I have the best overall team because of this trade. Isotopes is probably banking on the idea that they won’t return. If they don’t, I clearly, clearly lose this trade. It’s a big if, but I’m willing to take this chance and hope for a win.
As long as Brees can stay moderately productive, and either Barber or Maroney can present a positive matchup each week, I can field a team that is extremely competitive. But between Brees, Harrison being hurt and underperforming, Westbrook hurt, Watson hurt, Maroney hurt, Barber slumping, and no real depth at any position (except RB), I probably thave the most question marks top to bottom in the league. This is going to be a really fun season from here on out!
The original offer was Fitzgerald/Johnson for Williams/Barber. I was seriously considering it before it was withdrawn.
A problem with this league is that you can only start 2 RBs. I had Maroney, Barber, and Jones-Drew. Whoever I started between Barber and Jones-Drew was wrong. So now I can start Johnson/ Jones-Drew and not worry about it. There’s been the injuries to Maroney and Bulger. And Roy Williams has been a disappointment.
I know this trade probably looks bad on paper, and fantasy experts have been down on Larry Johnson. But I’m 2-4, and face it, I’m not winning anything. I might as well take a chance.
ETA: When does this trade take affect?
Assuming it clears the veto process after the games on Sunday, the commish can back-date your starting rosters for this coming week.
We just instituted such a “speed up this trade” feature in the keeper league a couple weeks ago. Here’s a copy of the league post where I introduced the feature:
Here’s the followup example I posted:
I didn’t mean to imply that there was anything wrong or inappropriate with this trade, I can see what both sides see in it. I was just asking you two to talk about it some, because it’s a pretty large trade, and I’d like to start getting more discussion about in-game decisions going.
Your trade should go through this week:
“Note: This trade will be reflected on the lineup for Week 7.”
But I can fast track it if necesary (or even retroactively change your rosters to include the players if they didn’t)
Was my post defensive? I didn’t mean for it to be such.
I’m really excited about the prospect of playing matchups between Brees and Bulger each week. Maybe it’s leftover thinking from predraft rankings where Brees and Bulger were top 5 QBs, but I’m sure I can find at least one good QB play between those two. I have to, right?
I finally have three RBs I like, so switching between the three gives me optimum matchup potential. I was really scared these last 5 weeks not having a third RB option, in case someone got hurt. Now, assuming Maroney ever gets healthy, I have a full RB lineup even if someone is out with an injury. With 2 upper-level WRs, and a revolving door of third WRs to use with matchups or injury, I’ve got a really solid team, top to bottom. Finally, I feel confident with my team. Now, I just need a little luck to get them all back to form.
No, not really… it was more that I didn’t want to sound like I was trying to force people to justify a trade.
I miss having Peyton and having that consistent rock.
I also can’t believe I missed out on DA. I drafted Lewis and Braylon and traded for Winslow, but I didn’t think to pick up DA after his big game. I’m pretty familiar with DA’s game and I expected more inconsistency from him, and for him to be replaced after the bye. I also was pretty comfortable with my QBs. Well, he has been inconsistent, but in terms of fantasy scoring he passes (and runs, even) for a whole lot of TDs. I could’ve scooped the homer up early on for free and had the #3 QB in FF. Woops.
My QB production in both my leagues has been crap lately. Young got hurt this week, nothing I can do there… But in the other league I sit McNabb for his 380/4 day (although Kitna was good too), then I start McNabb vs the giants and he takes 12 sacks and just plays like garbage, so I go back to Kitna and he puts up like 100-150 yards and some ints against washington. Just haven’t had very good QB production lately. Bulger/Brees will end up leaving you in situations like I’ve been, I think. I do expect Brees to rebound, Bulger not so much.
You’ve certainly put in a lot of effort to improve your team, and you’ve gotten the best of 3 trades now. You were really lucky to get that flukey start where you were like 4-1 or whatever with being near last in total points. So if you 4-1 through your roughest part of the year, it’s only up from here. Scary for the rest of us.
My projected score this week is okay, but I’ve got a bad feeling.
Young is hurt, and Kitna is playing vs TB, who are among the best at stopping QBs from scoring fantasy points. Projected score of 16.52 might be too generous.
Housh should be a solid produer, but when you’re projected to have almost 20 points it’s hard to live up to that.
Curry is my replacement for Edward’s bye. The Oakland passing game is unpredictable and I suspect his performance could be a critical factor.
Addai is playing Jax and they’ve always played hard against Indy, and are good against the run.
Ronnie Brown vs NE… Belichick knows how to take away an unbalanced team’s weapons.
My opponent’s game revolves around the STL/SEA matchup, and I could see that have some scoring since neither team is playing especially good defense.
My projected score has me barely coming out on top, which is a problem considering that my opponent doesn’t really have a good matchup at any of his top positions. I don’t have a good feeling about this week because I have far too many question marks going into the games-- Brees is iffy and 20 projected points is something he hasn’t usually gotten in two games; Harrison is hurting and limited, and my TE is injured. I could see my team exploding for 110+, or getting my usual 60-75 and another loss. I have a couple favorable matchups, and it’s going to come down to two players carrying my team for me. One of them is among the league’s biggest disappointments, and the other is injured. Uh oh.
I just haven’t been able to put together a good week top to bottom. Someone is usually injured or gets stuffed. I can’t imagine a team with as many weapons as I have could be held down for too long, but if I’m on the wrong side of .500 when things turn around, I might not make it.
My bye-week QB trade turned out to be a bust, but I think I’m squeaking out a win this week. Sadly, going into Sunday night, I’ve got Travis Henry running for me here and running against me elsewhere, and it is a much tighter game in my other league. Ah well, looks like I’ll lose that other game on tonight’s and Monday’s game, so let’s hope Henry runs up the score!
Yep, another loss for me to another ridiculously lucky opponent. My entire team scored 2 TDs? Really? Again? My opponent’s leading scorer? His defense. His kicker was his third best producer. You can’t get much luckier than that. It’s a sad, sad day when your opponent’s QB gets hurt early in the game and doesn’t return, and you still can’t win.
After a lot of luck to help me get to 3-0, my team has totally tanked every week this season. I’ll be VERY lucky to get to five wins with a team playing this badly. I had better matchups across the board than my opponent, but there isn’t any hope when your opponent’s kicker and defense combine for 55 points.
It’s going to take an awful lot of luck (which clearly is going any way but my own right now) to be competitive come playoff time.
This week’s victim of the Tom Brady Asskicking Tour: Isotopes.
I’ve had Cleo Lemon stealing all of Ronnie Brown’s rushing TDs, and now he has a knee injury. Great.
I don’t know if I’m ever going to see QB production again. And yet again I must remind myself about passing the chance to get Anderson.
It’s somewhat irritating having a high waiver priority, you have to make sure that when you finally use it it’s worthwhile.
On the plus side, next week against St. Louis I get to have one my crazy Browns offense fantasy performance weeks.
I prefer having a weak priority. That way you can use it for whomever you want, and unless the guy you want is a breakout stud, you’re guaranteed to get him.
Sorry about that.
I don’t think our trade benefitted either of us. I’m still looking for some consistent production from somewhere in my lineup (especially since my kicker and DEF and on bye ;)), and if Travis Henry gets busted, then I’ll be looking up at the Jets and the Dolphins.
I should rename my team in his honor since the points mostly come from Brady anyway. I was damn happy that I left Johnson out in favor of his backup this past week. 130 yds and 3 TDs later Watson is looking like quite the replacement. Of course, it was against the porous Jets defense but a win is a win.
My condolences, SenorBeef. As a fellow Ronnie Brown holder, today’s news was tough to swallow, especially considering how much my offense needs him in my other league. He’s on the can’t cut list, too, so I hope Yahoo! updates that soon.
Addai seemed like he was in the game for less than half the snaps tonight. I wonder if he’s still hurt, or if Indy is trying RBBC, or what. But whatever the reason is, it’s a bad thing.
My RB situation might’ve gone from being the league’s best a few weeks ago to pretty bad.
Ellis Dee brought up a good point that I’d failed to consider in the league.
re: Free agency opens at midnight
"I understand the concept, but how is this enforced?
In other words, if I logged in and signed a guy at 11:50, what happens?"
Going to the detailed view of pickups, I see that this happened. EsotericEnigma signed Brian Griese at 11:35, which is fine because he was a waiver win for him. But then he signed Muhsin Muhammad at 11:50, which is jumping the gun on free agency.
What should be done to enforce the rule? Should I revert the change as soon as I see it? That would be unsatisfying if the violator simply picked him right back up. Enforce a 24 hour rule where everyone but the violator can sign him, and if no one does, he can pick him up again?
Does anyone happen to know where I could find a stat on which offenses give up the most points to team defenses on average?
